A Glimpse into the Unknown
Cleopatra's POV
I sat at the entrance of the nightmarish cell, a chill crawling up my spine. My eyes locked on the cold, dark stone that seemed to breathe the horrors it had witnessed. The stale, metallic scent of blood lingered in the air, faint but unmistakable.
My brows furrowed in concentration, trying to piece together the scene. It was clear now. Something horrible had happened down here. Whoever cleaned it up had done so hastily, perhaps deliberately leaving only traces of it in my mind.
A sudden sensation jolted me out of my spiraling thoughts. A small hand gently shook my arm, and I turned to face a child…the little version of myself that had appeared to me before at my mother's pack. Her innocent eyes met mine, filled with a quiet understanding, as if she knew something I didn't.
She reached for my hand, her small fingers wrapping around mine. I hesitated for only a moment before I let her guide me, rushing to my feet and following her. Her grip was gentle but firm, filled with an unspoken urgency. She led me away from the cell, away from the suffocating weight of its secrets. And somehow, we were in a different environment.
We walked silently, our footsteps echoing in the empty corridor, though the path was unfamiliar. The stone walls seemed to close in as we ventured deeper, the air growing colder with every step. Shadows danced in the corners of my vision, but the child never faltered, leading me forward as if she had walked this path a thousand times before.
The passage twisted and turned, the dim light flickering as though it could extinguish at any moment. I wanted to ask where we were going, but something in her silence stopped me. There was an eerie calm in her, as if she knew the answers to my questions I hadn't yet thought to ask.
Finally, the corridor opened up into a wider chamber, the air thick with a strange energy that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. In the center of the room stood an altar, ancient and worn, its surface scarred with symbols I couldn't quite make out. The girl released my hand and stepped forward, her small form dwarfed by the towering stone.
“Why did you bring me here?” I whispered, my voice barely audible in the oppressive stillness.
She turned to face me, her expression solemn. “You need to see,” she said softly, her voice echoing unnaturally in the chamber.
I frowned, taking a step closer to the altar. There was something about this place, something that felt disturbingly familiar, as though I had been here before.
“What is this place?” I asked, my voice trembling with a mix of fear and curiosity.
She didn't answer. Instead, she reached out, placing her tiny hand on the altar’s surface. The symbols began to glow faintly beneath her touch, pulsating with a strange, otherworldly light. The air around us hummed, and I felt a shift, like the ground itself was awakening.
I took a step back, instinctively reaching for the wall behind me as a low rumble vibrated through the room. The little girl remained calm, her hand still pressed against the stone.
“Who are you really?” I asked, my brows furrowed in confusion.
She turned to look at me once more, her eyes now glowing with the same strange light as the symbols on the altar. “I am you,” she said softly. “The part of you that you've forgotten. Here, look into the water, what do you see?”
I took a step closer to the altar and looked into the pool of water. My eyes were exactly like hers and my hair is now the same color as hers. What is going on?
“Why did you bring me here?” I asked, my voice rising slightly out of panic. But she just smiled.
“You will soon find out,” she whispered.
And with that, the room seemed to dissolve around us, the walls crumbling into darkness as the world shifted. I was falling, spiraling into the unknown but a strong hand pulled me up with a force and I woke up.
Alpha Williams.
“Are you OK?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
I was drenched in sweat and panting like I have been running.
“I'm fine,” I muttered, attempting to get off from the bed. I felt dizzy and staggered a little but Alpha Williams held me steady, helping to sit back down on the bed.
“Are you sure? You don't look fine. You've been thrashing around all the while you slept, been trying to wake you up,” he said softly, caressing my cheeks with his large palm. I unconsciously leaned in to his touch, closing my eyes softly.
The moment was brief as a beeping alert rang out inside his pocket. He withdrew his hand from my cheek and reached for his pocket.
“Oh my God, Renee,” he muttered with a low growl.
“Where is she? Is everything alright?” I asked, getting up and walking to the bathroom with careful steps as I still felt light headed.
He didn't answer but started frantically dialing someone's number. “Get the cars ready, we leave in five,” I heard him bark out.
And then I remembered. He has struck me and that was why I passed out. What were they hiding? I quickly exited the bathroom and rushed to his side as he fumbled around his wardrobe to put on his shirt.
“Alpha Williams, what did you see on my phone? Does it have anything to do with Alex?” I demanded. He ignored me while fixing his clothes and in the next minute, he was racing towards the door.
“Alpha Williams!” I screamed and he stood dead in his tracks, his gaze fixed on the tracker.
“Fuck,” he exclaimed, raking a hand through his disheveled hair.
“Why won't you tell me anything?” I asked, making my way to stand in front of him, ready to get the truth out of him.
Do they really have a hand in Alex's disappearance? Did the kidnapper double-cross them by reaching out to me? Have they decided to finish things off without my knowledge?
“Renee made up her mind to go in your place to rescue Alex,” he replied with a resigned tone. “And now, she has gone off the grid.”
I froze, my heart skipping a beat as his words sank in. Was I still wrong about them?
“Renee… went in my place?” I whispered, feeling a bit odd. “Why would she do that? And why didn't you stop her?” I asked, my voice shaking slightly.
He rubbed his temples, his frustration evident. “I will explain later but right now, I need to go.”
“And I'm coming along,” I said defiantly with a low growl, challenging him to refuse.
As we rushed out of the room, I couldn't shake the cold certainty settling in my chest: I might have been led into something much larger than I could imagine by the very person I had sworn to remain loyal to.
