The diversion
Cleopatra's POV
“Stay right here,” I heard Alpha Williams say to me as he stormed out of the room with Renee. What was that all about?
What is wrong with me and why do I keep spacing out? How did I even get to the balcony? The last thing I remember was seeing the woman with the green eyes. Why does she keep appearing to me? What does she want from me?
I was beginning to get infuriated that something like this is messing up with my emotions. I can't believe that I'm the one breaking down and trembling.
But maybe it's a twist working in my favor. Maybe it's drawing Alpha Willaims closer to me and soon enough, he would let me in on every decision he makes.
Deep down, I could feel that something was wrong with me. The memories of the excruciating pain I felt in my stomach flashed in my mind and I instinctively placed a hand on my stomach.
Should I call Alpha Kane? After a second thought, I picked up my phone and called beta Jack.
The voice on the other end sounded hushed, like he was trying to keep his voice down not to interrupt something. I heard him excuse himself and leave.
“Look who decided to call after all these while,” he said, his voice laced with sarcasm.
I rolled my eyes, biting down on my tongue to stop myself from blurting out the words in my mouth.
“Beta Jack, I need to report something,” I said.
I could literally feel the excitement in his voice when he told me to go on, thinking it was information about the Stone Heart Pack.
“Something is wrong with me,” I stated point blank. He was silent for a while and then heaved a heavy sigh.
“Will this affect your ability to accomplish your mission?” he demanded coldy.
What happened to asking me what's wrong with me or trying to give me a solution? He has returned back to his old cold annoying self.
During the time Theo was lingering around, I felt that Beta Jack and I became good, as if we had a better understanding of things. But now, things have returned back to normal.
“I asked you a question, Cleopatra!” he growled, and shook my head, trying to bring my attention back to him.
“It could. It's becoming a persisting problem. Should I come back? So I can be examined by our pack doctor?” I asked hopefully. All the strange events happening to me are beginning to scare me and I don't get scared easily.
“No. You remain there until we tell you what your next action should be. Someone will get the vial to you before sunrise tomorrow. Any other complaints?” he asked with a sense of urgency in his voice.
I hesitated, obviously not pleased with the response I got but before I could say something else, he hung up on me.
How rude!
He said someone will bring it over tomorrow. I'll wait for that. I washed my face and changed into something thicker and warmer.
I left the room in search of Alpha Willaims. Why did Renee call him? Is it vital information? I heard whispers and murmurings and followed the sound downstairs.
A crowd had gathered. I made my way past some pack members to see what got their attention and the sight punched me right in the face.
A man lay dead but the strangest thing is that there was no blood. In fact, he looked like all the blood in his body had been drained. How did that happen?
The pack doctor came in and as soon as he saw the body, he dragged Alpha Williams to a corner. I walked closer to them subtly and tried to listen.
“It looks like what a blood sucker did, but it's not. Whoever did this wants us to believe that it was done by a vampire,” he explained.
Blood sucker? Vampire? They've been wiped out. The remaining were put to sleep and locked away by our ancient leaders. So it can't be. I tried to process the information while my eyes were glued to the lifeless body. It was a terrifying sight but something about it screamed foul play.
“What do you mean it's not a vampire?” Alpha Williams asked, his voice laced with disbelief. “There are two punctured fang marks on his neck and the blood is drained out of his body.”
The pack doctor shook his head and chuckled. I worked with your father while they were trying to destroy all the vampires. I know how a body sucked dry by a vampire looks, even with my eyes closed. This is not it.”
Alpha Williams raked a hand through his disheveled hair and glanced around. “You mean to tell me that someone here…someone right here in my pack, did this and made it look like the work of a vampire?” he asked with shock and anger laced in his tone.
The pack doctor nodded. “That is the only explanation. Maybe the person's intention was to cause an uproar or confusion in the pack. Look around Williams, see the look on everyone's face right now? That's what they aimed to achieve,” the pack doctor explained.
“I have to run some tests and find out how they did this and what they used. We need to know what they are playing at and who we are up against,” he concluded and signaled to some warriors to move the body to the infirmary.
I took in the scene in front of me after listening to the pack doctor's explanation. It was a scene of chaos, a perfect storm of fear and confusion.
The kind of scene only my Alpha could arrange.
Could this be a diversion? A form of distraction? If that's the case someone here must be up to something. Or could it be?
“Wait!” Alpha Williams growled loudly enough making everyone pause whatever they were doing.
“Renee, gather the men and take your positions. Everyone else, get inside!” he screamed. There was an uproar as the other pack members hurriedly left for their respective rooms.
He must have had the same thought as I did.
An invasion!
