Friend or Foe?

Cleopatra’s POV

A hand reached out, gripping my waist and pulling me away. I tried to scream, to fight back, but my limbs felt like lead, heavy. One of the men hoisted me effortlessly over his shoulders.

The handsome stranger tried interfering but they knocked him down. Panic clawed at my throat as the bouncer merely grunted as they carried me out of the club.

The cool night air slapped me awake momentarily, but the effect of the drug was too strong as it kept pulling me back into darkness.

They shoved me into a blacked-out van, the stench of stale sweat and leather filling my nostrils, yanking me out of the darkness. A rough hand clamped over my mouth, muffling my stifled screams. Not like any of these humans could help.

Through half-lidded eyes, I saw them - three figures in black, their faces hidden beneath hoods. They spoke in hushed tones, the words muffled by the roaring engine. One of them glanced at me, a cold gleam sparking in his eyes.

“So this is the almighty Shadow,” he rasped, his voice heavy with spite.
“Can’t wait to see what the Alpha will do to her.”
“Brace up guys, we should be there by dawn,” another voice offered.

Dawn never came for me.

The only light that pierced the suffocating place was the flickering torch held by one of the guards who tossed a hunk of stale bread at my feet.

How did it get to this? Is there a search party out there for me? Why haven’t I been rescued already?

The warehouse they held me in was a torture chamber in itself - the air thick with dust and the metallic tang of blood.

These Night Wolves torture like they were born for it. Their torture was like a meticulous art, designed to break a person not just physically, but utterly. Each day brought a new torment. I could feel my wolf fading.

Why has the silver wolf that saved me the last time not come to my rescue? I thought. Just get the silver chains off and I’ll tear these men apart, limb by limb.

I heard them murmuring. Something about a prophecy. Something about the Shadow’s blood to be used for cleanse their pack because of an evil committed in the past.

Like I would let them use me for any fucking sacrifice. I flinched as a crazy thought danced through my mind. Is Alpha Williams looking for me?

Just then, the door was thrown open. The Alpha I encountered that night loomed at the entrance, a sinister smile playing on his lips. “I warned you, Shadow,” he spat, his voice dangerously low, “You should have stayed hidden.”

“If you think for one second that you’re going to get away with this then you’re fucking delusional, I’m getting out of here and when I do, you should stay hidden,” I threatened, with a dark smirk on my face.

He flinched. Just a little but I saw it. That was soon covered up with a humorless laugh as he spat on my face and walked away.

“Get everything ready, the cleansing must be done tomorrow night,” he whispered to his men.

Morning came too soon as I peered my eyes open, trying once more to break out of the silver chains but it burned deeper into my skin. I muffled my scream, trying to be discreet.

The metallic clang of the warehouse door caused me to stop as I sniffed the air. A Human? There is something familiar about the scent but I couldn’t place my hands on it.

A figure, sleek and silent crept up beside me, gesturing that I shouldn’t make a sound. Recognition jolted through me… It was the stranger from the club!

His face was half-hidden in the shadows, but his eyes held a steely glint. I did pray for help, but him? What can he do?

“Hey, hey, you’re safe now. I’m getting you out of here,” He murmured, his voice a low rasp.
He moved carefully, picking the lock of the chain. I gasped lightly as the chains came off.

Adrenaline surged through my battered body, momentarily drowning out the pain. Anger coursed through me.

They better hide, because I’ll be coming for all of them, I swore under my breath.

He helped me to my feet, my legs unsteady, like I’m learning to walk for the first time. ‘We don’t have much time,” he whispered, his voice urgent. “They will be back soon.”

Just who exactly is this human?

Outside, the world seemed impossibly bright and I shut my eyes immediately. I gently opened them slowly to adjust to the light, I’ve been stuck in that dark warehouse for five days!

With a hand wrapped around my waist, the stranger led me away from the Night Wolves Pack. We got to a clearing and the engine of his motorcycle roared to life as we sped off into the city lights that glittered on the horizon.

I just had one thought as I looked back at the place where I was held captive. Revenge.

I woke up to the sweet aroma of pancakes. I was a bit confused when I opened my eyes to the unfamiliar room, before I remembered Theo, the stranger who saved me. He already filled me in on how he followed the van from a far distance when they drove out of the club and how he had been observing to know the right time to burst in and save me.

I can’t believe that I’ve been resting for three days.

Just then, I heard a soft knock on the door. Theo came in with a bright smile and a tray of mouth watering pancakes. “Breakfast is served,” he said cheerfully.
“Why are you helping me?” I asked, suspicion gnawing at me. He was a human after all.

Theo chuckled. “Let’s just say… I have my reasons. But for now, trust me. Have your breakfast and rest.

I nodded reluctantly, feeling vulnerable.

“I’ll be heading out this afternoon, hope you will be fine on your own?” he asked with concern laced in his voice.

“Where are you going?” I asked, still suspicious.

“There is this charity event I was invited to, I’m playing the piano,” he replied.

“Ow, you play? Can I come with you? I would love to hear you play and I really need to unwind,” I asked pleadingly.

“Of course! If you are feeling up to it,” he replied excitedly.

Maybe I was wrong about him. Maybe he just saved me without any ulterior motives…right?

As I stepped into the hall, arms linked with Theo’s, eyes turned to stare at me. The red dress Theo picked for me fitted so nicely, showing off in the right places. I plastered a smile on my face as he took me round, introducing me to people. He soon left to play but I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I was being watched.

Across the room, amidst the well-dressed crowd, stood a figure I couldn't mistake. His dark hair was in waves, looking like a beautiful mess, his expression unreadable. I bit my lips as our eyes met and he started walking towards me with an urgency that made me take a step back.

Alpha Williams.
