"I'll take care of him"
Williams’ POV (cont.)
My heart pounded in my chest as I read the particular phrase that caught my attention, over and over again.
“Whatever you do, make sure the meeting doesn't happen in your territory.”
What exactly did he hear to make him warn me like this? I turned to Cleopatra, my confused expression a contrast to her indifferent and blank one.
“What is it?” She asked, her voice laced with concern.
But for some reason, I decided not to let her know about the letter. Maybe it had something to do with the look in her eyes or the way she reacted when I touched her.
“It's not something you should be worried about,” I replied. “I'm glad you're safe now. I thought something bad had happened to you. And for Alex, I promise to find whoever did this and make him pay.”
“No,” she drawled and slowly made her way towards me. She draped her hands over my head and leaned in. I stifled a moan when I felt her lips on my ears, her tongue teasing me softly before biting the tip of my ear sweetly.
Fuck.
I could take her right here, right now. But I steadied my breath and willed myself not to.
“Don't worry, Alpha,” she whispered, her breath hot and raspy in my ear, “I will make him pay.”
And with that she pulled her hands down, letting it slowly travel down my body. She let it linger a bit on my dick before moving away.
I didn't know I was holding my breath all these while. I let out a heavy sigh as I walked out of her room. I growled quietly, my erection throbbing in the most desperate way.
I want to have her. No, I need to have her now. To slam into her with all I got. But no. I won't. I shouldn't.
I paused for some air before pulling out my phone and dialing Renee's number.
“I need you and the others to come to my office immediately. It's urgent.” I said in a husky voice.
Without waiting for a response, I ended the call and paced around the office, my mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
Within minutes, Renee, Eugene the pack doctor, Ben and Ethan were in my office, their faces etched with concern. These are my most trusted members and they are deeply involved in every decision I make regarding the pack.
“What's going on, Alpha?” Renee asked, her voice filled with urgency.
“Call on one of the warriors to stand guard by the door. I don't need any spies eavesdropping,” I said, still pacing around the office.
“Already done that. So what's the problem?” She asked.
I handed her the letter, my knuckles white from clutching it too tightly. “Read this,” I said, my voice hard.
The four of them read the letter silently, their expressions growing more serious by the second.
“This is serious,” Ethan said, his voice low. “We can't take any chances.”
“We have to cancel the meeting,” Ben added, his voice firm.
“But what if this is a trap? How sure are we that it came from Mr Smith?” Renee voiced.
The thoughts equally crossed my mind but I saw a small scribble Smith always leaves on all the documents he handled for me. Maybe he did leave it this time on purpose so I'll be sure it was from him.
“I'm very certain that it is from him,” I replied.
“If that's the case, we need to change the location. We can't risk holding it here,” Eugene said and they all nodded in agreement.
We spent the next hour discussing the implications of canceling the meeting. It was a huge decision, one that could jeopardize a lot of planning. But in the end, we agreed that it was the safest option.
I dialed the Alpha King’s number and after what felt like an eternity, he picked up. I told him everything. From the kidnapping to the events that followed afterwards and now the letter.
The Alpha King has always stood by me every step of the way after I lost my parents. A lot of people don't know this, but he's actually my mother's twin brother.
We kept it a secret. The attention won't do either of us good. Not with all these brainless rival packs all around me.
He agreed to move the meeting to the safest location we could think of. His territory.
“You should make sure to reach all the Alphas as soon as possible and tell them about the development. They are all expected to gather tomorrow but the meeting will commence the next day,” he said and hung up.
I clapped my hands in relief. “We have so much to do. I want all the Alphas to get the message this morning. Whatever it is you have to do, call, text but make sure everyone gets to hear about the change of plans,” I said to them urgently.
Everyone got busy. We split the Alphas amongst ourselves and got to work. In about an hour we were almost done.
“Renee stood up and stretched. “I've called and texted everyone on my list,” she said, her voice filled with relief. Ben was next, followed by myself then Ethan before Eugene.
And just like that, they were all aware. The responses we got were mostly unpleasant but what can they do about it?
“Good job everyone. You can all go. Get some rest while you're at it,” I said, forcing a smile. My mind was already preoccupied. They all left. Except for Renee.
“Are you okay, Williams?” She asked, her concern evident in her voice.
“I'm fine,” I lied. I wasn't fine. I was furious. “Just a bit tired.”
Renee studied me for a moment. Somehow I knew that she noticed I was lying. But she nodded anyway. “Get some rest as well,” she said. “You need it.”
I nodded and dismissed her. As soon as she left, I locked the door behind her. I needed time to think.
I sat down at my desk and pulled out the letter again. What did Mr Smith really hear to make him say that? What could have happened if this letter didn't come when it did?
And how are we sure the threat won't follow us to the Alpha King's territory?
As I sat there, lost in thought, a sudden chill ran down my spine. Something was off. What if what Mr Smith was trying to prevent had already found its way here.
I decided to check the security monitors that were set up in my office for any suspicious activities.
As I glanced through the screens, one particular footage caught my attention, making my heart skip for a bit.
It was one that had Cleopatra, staring directly at a camera like she knew I was watching her, a murderous look in her eyes.
