"I have a crush on my Alpha"
Renee’s POV
“Renee?” he growled, his voice low and dangerous. “What the fuck are you doing here?” Just then our ears perked up to the sound of hurried steps outside and we all dashed out.
Alpha Willaims lunged like he had wings and within seconds, he caught the man that was trying to flee.
“Gotcha!” he whispered, his voice low and menacing.
“Marcus,” Alpha Williams said, when he turned the man to face him.
Marcus’s eyes darted around, glancing at our faces. “I…I don’t know why you’re chasing me Alpha, I’ve done nothing wrong,” he stammered.
“Why did you run?” I asked, stepping closer.
“I…I don’t know. I was just messing around, you have to believe me,” he replied.
Alpha Willaims stepped closer to him, his voice steady. “Marcus, who ordered you to kill him? You don’t need to pretend, I know you killed him so why and how?”
Marcus looked away, his shoulders slumping. He quickly got on his knees and started pleading, tears were flowing from his eyes uncontrollably. “I needed to save my mate,” he mumbled. “Someone has her. They offered me this deal.”
Eugene’s eyes narrowed. “Who?”
Markus hesitated, then looked up, a flicker of desperation in his eyes. “I swear on the moon goddess, I don’t know. They just gave me the instructions with the weapon and how to use it. I didn’t see their faces.”
I’ve already called some guards to come over. They moved to restrain Marcus and take him away. I looked over at Alpha Williams, his fists were clenched and he had a look on his face. Pure fury.
Who is pulling the strings? My mind raced back to when we caught some members turned spies the other time. It was all the same story. Why don’t they open up about it so we can help them find their mates instead of betraying the pack?
If it was up to me to make a decision, Marcus would be dead but I know Alpha Williams. He hates betrayal but he wouldn’t kill one of his own.
“Stop,” Alpha Williams said to the guards. He signaled for them to drag the man closer to him.
He looked at Marcus, a cold, calculating gleam in his eyes.
“Marcus,” he began, his voice hoarse, “it seems you’ve gotten yourself into something deeper than you realized.”
Marcus’s eyes widened in fear. He got on his knees and resumed pleading for his life to be spared.
“But there might be a way out for you,” Alpha Williams continued, his voice laced with urgency. “Continue with your task as if nothing has changed. You were never caught.”
I looked at him like he had lost his mind. Marcus should be tortured if not killed. He betrayed our pack! What is Alpha Willaims thinking? Why is he so forgiving?
Marcus's eyes flickered with confusion.
“The person who sent you to kill the prisoner asked that you be their eyes and ears inside our pack right?” he asked and Marcus nodded without hesitation.
“And they also have your mate?” he asked further and he nodded.
Alpha Willaims’ face was a mask of determination at this point as he rubbed his chin while in deep thoughts. “They’re using you, Marcus. But I can use you too.”
He paused, allowing the words to sink in. “I will send some of our men to find your mate as soon as possible.”
Wait what? Not only is he sparing his life but he’s helping him to find his mate? I hope he gives me the order. God knows I won’t come back with her!
Marcus’s eyes darted between Willaims, the pack doctor and I. Mine must have held no warmth because he looked away quickly the moment his eyes landed on mine.
“What do you want me to do Alpha?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
“You call him Alpha yet you had the balls to betray our pack? To betray your Alpha?” I growled angrily at him.
“Quiet Renee,” Alpha Williams said to me. I expected that much. It's always ‘quiet Renee!’ When will his eyes be opened and he sees I've been right all these while and I only want what's best for our pack.
Alpha Williams leaned in, his eyes glinting with a dangerous light. “Keep doing what you were doing. But this time, you'll be doing it for me. Report all that they tell you to do to either me or Renee and we will be giving you the information to take back to them.”
I sighed. This was his plan?
Before he was dismissed, Marcus dropped a shocking revelation.
“I'm not the only one, Alpha.”
“What did you just say?” Alpha Williams growled furiously. The color of his eyes changed as his wolf threatened to be unleashed.
“There are two more. Gina the kitchen maid and Tony.”
Alpha Williams bursts out laughing but it was a dry crazy one. There was no humor laced in the sound.
“Get Gina and Tony to my office now!” he barked at one of the men, “And do it discreetly,” he added and dismissed Marcus.
“Stop right there Renee,” he growled at me as I made to leave with them. He was silent until the pack doctor and others left.
I turned and walked towards him. “Alpha, why are you sparing their lives when we could get rid of them to show examples to others who might be approached with the same offer? Don't you think you're being too soft? I ranted.
He was silent.
“What were you doing inside the infirmary?” he asked.
Wait. He can't be suspicious of me right? I'm the beta of this pack!
“Alpha Williams, how can you suspect me when I'm supposed to be your most trusted ally? I'm your friend Willaims!” I yelled, calling him Williams for the first time in ages.
His eyes flickered with something I couldn't decipher as he looked directly into my eyes. Like he was searching for something.
“I trust you Renee, are you crazy? I want to know why you were in the infirmary,” he replied with a soft tone in his voice.
“You didn't tell me about the plan,” I replied with hurt laced in my voice. “I just wanted to confirm if it was just rumors or if he's truly alive so I can ask him who tried to kill him.”
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Look I'm sorry, it just happened. There was no time to tell you about the plan. You are the only person I trust completely Renee, don't ever forget that,” he whispered.
That made me feel on top of the world. Like I could give my life for him any time. I've always had a huge crush on Williams right from when we were tennagers, training to be Alpha and Beta. I hope I could be his second chance mate one day.
As we turned to leave, my eyes briefly caught a figure at the other side of the territory, watching closely without moving. Its eyes glowed an eerie red. I tapped Willaims and pointed to the direction but it was gone.
What the fuck was that?
