“I have a mate?”

Cleopatra’s POV

It can’t be!

How can I be staring at myself? A younger version of myself. And why do I look…different. Rob must have noticed that I wasn’t paying attention.

His eyes followed mine to the window and he touched me lightly. “Are you okay? What are you looking at?”

“You can’t see her?” I asked, still shocked at what I was seeing.

“Who? What are you talking about?” He replied, sounding worried, his eyes roaming around the room.

“There’s a girl by the window, she’s staring right at me and her hair…,”

“Is as white as snow, right?” He said, taking the words right out of my mouth. How did he know that when he can’t see her?

“How do you know that? Is she real?” I asked, my gaze still on the girl but now, she had her back facing me while she continued looking out through the window.

“You are real,” was all he said and left the room, gently closing the door behind him. I wanted to run after him. There is no way he’s leaving me in a room with a little girl who shares striking semblance with me and who happens to be real!

But as soon as I turned towards the door and back at the window, she was gone.

What the fuck.

After looking around the room carefully, I quietly went forward to where she was standing before. I waved my hand in the air and stopped when I felt like I was being crazy.

What just happened? I looked out through the window and saw Lucien, staring up at my window. He waved at me, and I did the same. Weird. Nobody can convince me otherwise, this whole place is weird.

After having my bath, I wore a short and big polo that I found in the wardrobe. I let my hair fall loose as it was wet and there was no blow dryer.

My stomach grumbled, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten all day. I left the room hurriedly, bracing myself for the creepy stares of the people here.

“Now which way is the kitchen?” I muttered to myself while heading towards the stairs. My eyes caught a little hallway by the left just before the one that led to the stairs and I ventured in out of curiosity.

I knew damn well that there was no kitchen but still went on. I came to the end and there was just one door. What could they be hiding behind this door? I thought to myself and juggled the knob but it was locked.

I crouched down and peered from under but the room was dark inside, I couldn’t see anything. For some unknown reason, I put my hand through the opening under the door, moving it slightly.

“What do you think you’re doing?” A voice said and I got up immediately, my knees hitting the floor painfully.

I turned around to see a vampire, standing behind me, his eyes glowed eerie red which freaked me out.

“Um, I was looking for the kitchen,” I replied, meeting his gaze squarely. I didn’t blink but maintained eye contact with the same intensity he held, neither of us backing down.

From the corner of my eye, I could see his fists clench and unclench. I readied myself, standing firm for any surprise attack. I lunged at him before he could take two steps towards me and threw him against the wall.

I growled loudly. I thought they said I will be safe here!! I felt cornered and angrily and poured it out on him. I didn’t give him a chance to stand up, dragging him by the hair and flinging him across the hallway with all my strength.

He was up before I blinked and charged back at me, baring his fangs. I tried to let my claws out, but they wouldn’t come out. I tried changing to my wolf form but nothing worked.

I became a little anxious. Why is my wolf being unresponsive again? The last time this happened was in the forest when I fought off rogues.

But this can’t stop me. I was trained to fight without my wolf and that’s what I will do.

“That’s enough for now,” I heard Lucien say just as we were about to lunge at each other.

“What is this? What are you trying to do?” I asked angrily. They were testing me but why? So they’ll know how to finish me off? That can’t be it. If they wanted me dead, they would have done so while I was unconscious but that didn’t stop me from asking. “Were you trying to kill me?” I said, my tone icy.

“Of course not! I would never allow such,” he said. “Come and have something to eat, you must be hungry.”

“Not before you tell me what the heck just happened and why I was attacked!” I demanded.

“I just wanted to know the extent of the…damage to your wolves,” he said hesitantly.

Did he just say wolves? My wolves? This has to be a messed up plan to get me hypnotized.

“Are you fucking serious right now? You think I will fall for that?” I asked, raking a hand through my wet hair. “And why don’t you have a fucking dryer!” I yelled out of nowhere.

“Hey hey, just calm down. Breathe in and out,” Rob said and reached out to hold my hands. “Just breathe Shadow, I got you.”

Why did that suddenly make me feel better? I allowed myself to relax slightly, Rob’s hands were soothing but the unease was still there, gnawing at the back of my mind.

“What do you mean by wolves?” I asked Lucien, the word sounding foreign on my tongue.

Lucien looked at Rob, who gave a slight nod as if they were communicating something that they are hiding from me.

“You don’t know about them?” Lucien demanded, his tone serious. When he didn’t get any reaction from me, he continued. “I think it’s time we have that talk. There’s something you need to see.”

“Fine,” I muttered, stepping back. “But if this is some kind of trap…”

“I would never dream of hurting you, Shadow,” Lucien interrupted, his gaze soft. “Trust me.”

I nodded reluctantly and watched as Lucien turned and walked away, “Grab her something from the kitchen and get her to my office afterwards,” he said as he continued walking.

“Got it boss!” Rob yelled after his retreating figure.

“How did you do that?” I asked curiously, wondering how he was able to calm me down so easily.

He chuckled. “Because I’m your mate silly,” he whispered and my heart froze as soon as the word ‘mate’ rolled out of his tongue.
