Alpha's Gambit

Kane's POV

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” I screamed for what felt like the hundredth time in less than a few minutes. “What do you mean she found her mate?” I growled furiously at Jack.

Everything had been going so smoothly. My plan had unfolded better than I anticipated given all that has happened so far, and now this–this ridiculous news.

“Have you tried calling her again?” I snapped, feeling my control slip.

“Yes, Alpha. Her number is not available,” I heard Jack say nervously.

“Calm down Alpha,” Kyle drawled lazily, as if none of this affected him. “Cleopatra is loyal to this pack, isn't she? Loyal to you?”

When he didn't get any response from me, he continued. “Didn't you mention having something against her that would bring her to her knees? Let's go remind her who's really in charge!”

“Go where? What exactly are you suggesting?” I demanded furiously.

“What about Cleopatra?” Jack asked, concern lacing his voice. I growled in warning, making him flinch back.

“Continue, Kyle,” I muttered through gritted teeth.

Kyle smirked. “Let's head to the Stone Heart Pack right now and demand to have Cleopatra back. You don't even need to ruffle your feathers. Just scare her with whatever you have against her,” he replied, sounding so certain of his plan.

But then, an idea had already started forming in my mind. Since I have Kyle and his men here, we can use this as a guise to land another fatal blow on the Stone Heart Pack. I mean, I can so why why not?

“Gather my special squad,” I ordered Jack. “We leave in five. And Kyle, get your men ready. Let's serve them with another bowl of surprise attack,” I growled, excitement and the thrill of the attack bubbling inside me.
Jack hesitated at the doorway before his voice rang out. “Alpha. But...are you sure about this? If we act rashly, it could stir things up with the other packs. We’ve been moving in the shadows until now, but this will be loud.”
“I don’t care,” I snapped. “We’ve been playing it quiet long enough, and look where that’s gotten us. Williams needs to be shown what a real Alpha can do I'm simply doing the entire realm a favor.”
I couldn't let Cleopatra or her pathetic mate, whoever that is, to ruin my mission. How did this even happen anyway? Has she not been spraying the substance? Unknowingly to Cleopatra, the scent of that substance masks her real scent so her mate doesn't feel her and the vial she's taking also does the same to her.

I tried to cripple any means that my mission could be ruined but see where we've arrived. What the fuck happened?

But that will all be history when I'm done with them tonight.

Cleopatra wasn’t slipping through my fingers that easily. The bond she shared with her so-called mate meant nothing compared to the fear she had of me and the information that could destroy her.
Kyle grinned, his eyes gleaming with the same bloodlust that now coursed through my veins. He loved chaos, and tonight, I’d gladly give him plenty.
I straightened up, my decision solidified. “We leave now. No more questions. Get the men ready.”
Jack opened his mouth to speak again, but one look from me silenced him. This was happening. Cleopatra, her stupid mate and even Williams wouldn’t know what hit them. And by the end of the night, the Stone Heart Pack would be shattered—and she would be mine to control again.
As we moved out, my special squad falling into formation with the rogues, I could already taste victory. This was how it was always meant to be.
A sinister smile crept onto my face as the notification from my spy flashed across my screen. “Phase one verified. The Alpha has strayed far from his pack.”
Now, it's time for the real fun to begin.

Williams POV

My head throbbed from the sleepless nights. I couldn't go back. Not with Cleopatra there. Especially not with her mate by her side. It's been three days since I left and I couldn't tell if the pain I felt was from not seeing her or from the fact that she belongs to someone else.

Her so-called family requested to stay until she's conscious and I let them. But I couldn't bear to stay.

I left a message with Renee for them to leave as soon as she's conscious. Maybe I should really consider Alpha Othello’s offer this time around and just mark his daughter as my Luna.

I remembered the way Cleopatra's eyes gleamed when she stared into her mate's eyes. Jealousy chilled my blood, and I knew right away what needed to be done.

It's time I let Cleopatra go for good.

The sound of my phone ringing had me turning from my office chair lazily. I stared up at it. Renee. Again.

I ignored it and turned towards the window. Why the hell won't she leave me alone? I told them not to contact me and that I will return when I feel lighter.

But then a notification came in. I stared at the screen without much interest.

“Call me, Williams. It's extremely important.”

Reluctantly, I called her back. “Renee, what could possibly be so urgent?” I growled as soon as she picked the call.

“Williams, you have to hear this,” she replied hastily before passing the phone to someone else.

As soon as I heard the voice on the other end, rage consumed me. “What the hell have you been up to, Renee!” I barked, not even acknowledging the voice on the other end. “Why isn't he locked up?”

“Williams, just listen please,” Renee said, her tone slightly sharper this time.

I rushed out of my office, slamming the door behind me as I made my way to the car. “Get everything ready. I will be there shortly,” I growled into the phone.

As I sped through the streets, a pit formed in my stomach. Something wasn't right. What if this was a trap? What if he had been planning this all along?

The uneasy feeling in my gut twisted tighter.

Then, a loud crash echoed through the evening. My heart stopped as the phone fell from my hand.
