“I need you here”

Williams’ POV

My mind raced to catch up with the scene in front of me, but nothing made sense. How did she do this? What did she use in severing the arm of the Night Wolf Alpha? Her bare hands?

Wait, that's his right hand? I thought as my hand instinctively went to my arms to feel them. I stared at her bewildered expression. Could it be that her wolves took over that instant?

She walked towards the lifeless arm on the floor and kicked it. Before I could even process what she was doing or why, Renee's voice rang out in the doorway.

“Alpha! I came as fast as I could. We took care of the threat, everything is under control now,” she reported. Her eyes widened in horror as they landed on the severed arm. She quickly looked at both sides of my arm to make sure it wasn't mine.

“What happened? Whose is that?” She asked, pointing at the arm on the floor. Just then, Cleopatra collapsed and I rushed forward to grab her before she hit the floor.

“When did she get here? Who found her?” Renee asked, her expression conflicted.

I cradled Cleopatra’s limp body in my arms, my heart pounding in my chest. I just stood with her in my arms, paralyzed by the confusion. She has definitely changed.

I had never seen anyone move as fast as she did. I looked at her peaceful sleeping form and my tensed muscles eased up.

“Williams, when did you find her?” Renee repeated, drawing me back. I had forgotten she was in the room.

“I don't know, she just came for the meeting,” I muttered in response, my voice distant. I glanced once more at the severed arm, lying like a grotesque trophy at our feet and back at Cleopatra's sleeping form.

Her body trembled in my grasp, and suddenly I felt it—a surge of raw energy, like a storm brewing just beneath her skin. How is that possible? Why am I feeling that?

“Get some maids to clean this place up and make sure the window is fixed ASAP. We don't want anyone crawling in through there,” I said, my tone urgent.

Renee, still staring in confusion, nodded and moved to open the door as we stepped out of the room. I carried Cleopatra to my room and when we got in, I released a breath I didn't know I've been holding.

Cleopatra stirred in my arms and then her eyes flickered open, glowing faintly as her hair turned white! Does this mean she had awakened fully? I was relieved and a bit uneasy at the same time.

What does this mean for me?

I placed her in the bathtub and we both held each other's gaze for a while. “Are you ok?” I asked, my voice low and she nodded.

I patted her head gently and the colors of her hair shifted back to her original blonde color. Will she tell me or should I ask? I decided to wait until she's ready to talk about it but for now, I'll pretend like I don't know about her wolves or who she really is.

I can't believe what I'm about to do. I didn't even get the chance to do it for my mate, she was ripped out of my hands before we even got to know each other on a deeper level.

I helped her take off her clothes and poured soap on a washcloth. I splashed water on her and gently started rubbing it on her body.

She held my hand. “I can do this, I'm fine,” she whispered. I know she was fine but I wanted to do it.

“Let me, please,” I replied and her hands fell to her side.

Few minutes into bathing her, I started regretting my decision. Why did I even decide to do this? This has to be the biggest punishment I've ever given myself.

I tried to steady my breath and concentrate on just bathing her but my hands will travel down and caress her breast or grip her neck. It didn't help matters that she was moaning softly.

My hand froze mid-motion as Cleopatra's soft moans filled the room. What was I doing? I could feel the heat rising in my chest and my member hardening in anticipation, but this wasn't the time for that. She needed care, not…this.

I cleared my throat, pulling my hand away from her, but my gaze lingered on her full breast for a second too long. Her skin glistened under the soft light, the remnants of the water dripping down her body, and the raw energy I had felt earlier… it was still there.

Focus, Williams, I told myself. She's just been through something unimaginable.

Cleopatra's eyes fluttered close, and for a brief moment, I thought she had fallen back asleep. Her breathing slowed, but her body would twitch slightly like her wolves were still itching to come out.

I couldn't even begin to understand what she was going through, the weight of all the discoveries she has made. Whatever power had awoken in her–it was nothing like I'd ever seen or anyone had ever seen for that matter.

I grabbed the towel beside me and gently wrapped it around her, keeping my movements slow and deliberate. As I dried her off, I noticed her pulse steadying, her body slowly relaxing under my touch.

She stirred again, her lips parting slightly. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

I exhaled heavily. “You need rest, Cleopatra. I don’t know what had happened to you all these while that you were gone and I sure as hell don’t know why your Alpha wants you to return but I need you here,” I said softly. “We’ll figure the rest out later, just rest for now.”

She nodded, her eyes still closed like she was trying to hide a look in her eyes. I stood and picked her up again. I carried her to the bed and laid her down gently, making sure she was comfortable.

Her eyes opened and my gaze fell on her face. I saw a flicker of something—was it fear? Confusion? Or something darker?

I couldn’t tell. But the truth was, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to know. I turned to leave but she called me.

“Alpha Williams,” she said, her voice barely a whisper.

I leaned in closer to hear her. “Don’t leave.”

I felt a lump form in my throat when I stared into her eyes. It wasn’t her speaking. It was her wolves.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I said, pulling a chair next to the bed and sitting down. I kept my eyes on her, watching as her breathing steadied and her eyes closed.

As I sat there, my mind raced. Cleopatra would be in constant danger because of her powers. Something told me that this was only the beginning of a much bigger storm.

And for the first time in years, I felt truly afraid. Not for her.

But for me.
