On the laps of the Alpha
Willaims’ POV
The drive into the city was a quiet one. I remember the look on Renee’s face when she saw me coming down with Cleopatra.
She gently pulled me to the side as Cleopatra got into the car.
“Why is she coming with us, Alpha?” She asked, her face a mask of suspicion. I thought she was already warming up to Cleopatra. “You know this is an important meeting, what if she..,”
“What if she’s what, Renee? A spy?” I asked, suddenly irritated. “And do you think I’ll let her be in the meeting room with all the boards of directors? You think low of me Beta. And don’t you forget she took a bullet for me, so treat her with some kindness,” I said firmly and got into the car.
Soon, the streets of San Francisco came into view. We got to the hotel and I hurried in. I was already running late, all thanks to someone.
The images of the passionate sex we had this morning crossed my mind and I sighed with content. There are lingering questions about Cleopatra’s real identity and powers. But just like Eugene said, we can’t force the process.
“And where do you think you’re going?” Renee asked Cleopatra as she tried following me into the meeting room.
“Renee!” I growled, calling her to order, “I’ll handle it,” I said and pulled Cleopatra to a corner.
“So this is an official meeting with my board of directors. You can’t be inside with us, it’s private.”
The look in her eyes when I finished made me flinch. The intensity in her gaze made me regret being the one to inform her. I should have let Renee handle it.
This is getting more difficult.
“So let me get this straight,” she drawled, her gaze fixed on me, as if daring me to say something wrong. “You can have access to my private place, but I can’t have yours?”
What is she even saying? We both had access to each other's private pla…, what am I even thinking? She’s driving me crazy. In every way possible.
I looked at her and replied with a firm voice. “Just take a look around the hotel, get some food, anything. I’ll get you when it’s time to go back. At least I have your number now.”
“If you don’t want me in there, then forget about it. I’ll go have some ‘fun’ and find my way back when I’m done,” she hissed and walked away.
The way she said fun tugged at my ego. I knew exactly what she meant by that.
I ignored her and got in for the meeting. Somehow I was constantly distracted. My thoughts would go to Cleopatra and what she could be doing at the moment.
I kept staring at my wristwatch and glancing towards the door. This is not working!
“Gentlemen and women,” I said, the tension eating at my composure, “we should take our break sooner than planned and resume in an hour.” I announced and got up, ignoring the murmurs and the look Renee kept throwing in my direction.
“Where could she have gone?” I muttered to myself when outside and pulled out my phone to call her.
Renee came up to me, her face reeked of disappointment and anger.
“Alpha this is unlike you. Don’t you think leaving them that way could make us lose their trust?” She reasoned.
Her words hit me like a bombshell. What am I really doing? I thought as I stared down at my phone. Cleopatra is slowly eating away at my reasoning and better judgment.
No! I can’t let this go on.
I turned back into the meeting room and Renee apologized for earlier disruption. The meeting continued and this time, I was focused.

Cleopatra’s POV
After roaming around the hotel angrily, trying to get a good look at the place just in case I have to break in, I decided to see if I can eavesdrop on their meeting.
I know Alpha Kane, he would soon suggest a break-in at the hotel.
I came down and stood, staring at the door to the meeting place. I leisurely leaned against the wall, my arms crossed, a simmering impatience burning in my belly.
My enhanced hearing strained to catch fragments of the conversation within, but the muffled voices were like distant echoes. Maybe there is some sort of barrier? Alpha Williams must have installed one.
A surge of frustration ignited with me. I feel like a cast aside toy. My gaze hardened and I pulled away from the door, a flicker of defiance sparkling in my eyes.
I strode to the reception room, slowly making my way in and as usual, all eyes turned. I wore a long red dress that had a slit up to my thighs, and hugged my body in a desirable manner. The backs were exposed, revealing my lush and soft skin.
I took a seat at a corner, crossing my legs which exposed my thighs. I went on to scroll through my phone, boredom eating at my soul.
“Hi,” a rich voice said and I whipped my head up, careful not to look too excited although I needed the company.
“Hi,” I responded.
“Is the seat taken?” He asked, in a calm and collected tone.
I shook my head.
He looked rich. Like he has never picked a pen off the floor all his life.
“I’ve been staring at you for a while now. Has anyone told you that you look like well crafted art?” he said cheerfully and I laughed.
“No. I’m hearing this one for the first time,” I replied honestly.
“Um sorry.. I’m Alex. Alex Goodman,” he said and put out his hand. I hesitated and then shook his hand. “Just call me Cloe,” I replied, laughing at his expression.
It felt good. Talking to someone without the whole revenge and mission involved. I laughed more times than I spoke. He leaned in to whisper something about the couple sitting next to us and I threw my head back, bursting out in laughter.
I never knew I could laugh so hard.
Just then, I heard the growl and felt the hair at the back of my hair rise. It sent shivers down my spine. Williams.
I didn’t turn to look in the direction the growl came from but just focused on Alex and this time, I got in character.
I leaned forward and whispered something about running into a glass door, not knowing there was a door there and he laughed.
I could still feel Alpha Williams’ presence but remained still. Alex took out his phone and passed it to me and I put my number but just then, Williams closed in on us.
He threw the phone off my hands and dragged me out and into the meeting room with him, without saying a word. I followed him without resisting, a small smile playing on my lips.
“Go ahead with the presentation,” he ordered as if having me on his lap while in a meeting was the most natural thing to do.
And now, I’m right where I wanted to be.
