The Unexpected Ally
Cleopatra’s POV
I can’t let anyone else kill Alpha Williams. It has to be me. I have never failed a mission and I’m not about to lose this one because of a proud Alpha who doesn’t know when to give up!
“Time to go back to the original plan,” I muttered to myself and ran inside the hotel. I acted frantic as I searched for Renee. Seeing her, I added extra edge to the distraught look I have plastered on my face.
“You have the guts to show up..”
“We don’t have time for this Renee,” I cried out, cutting her off from giving her spiteful speech.
“I saw some men carrying Alpha Williams out!” I blurted, making sure that my voice came out, ragged and cracked, as if I was out of breath.
“What do you mean? He’s right over there…”
She froze, frantically searching the hall.
“What have you done!” She screamed and ran out. I ran after her.
“You think if I did something, I would come and report myself to you?” I barked, still running outside with her.
They were already gone by the time we got outside. My mind raced as we searched around.
I need to find Alpha Williams before Alpha Dylan does something stupid.
Renee’s rage was a tempest for sure. Her eyes burned holes into me. I met her gaze, my face a mask of innocence.
“Who was it??” She roared angrily. Their men already gathered around us, their faces tense and furious.
“I’m not sure. Couldn’t make out their faces, they wore masks,” I rasped, my voice trembling slightly. “They were too fast,” I glanced at their pack warriors, their expressions hardening. Exposing Alpha Dylan will be the same as exposing my pack. I need to tread carefully.
“We need to find them before they hurt him!” I added, making sure my voice was filled with urgency.
Alpha Dylan has no idea. He’s literally helping me get back into my original mission. I’ll seize this opportunity and win Renee over. If I help save Alpha Williams, I’ll be back to their pack in no time or better still, gain their trust.
“We need to work together to save him,” I said, my voice low. “I think I might know where they are.”
As we stood there, a figure emerged from the shadows. A man came forward. Why does he look so familiar?
He got closer, and stepped into the light, revealing himself. It was indeed someone I’ve met. Someone I had never expected to see here. Someone I told to live like he was dead.
The lawyer!
I vaguely remember that night. I couldn’t bear to kill the whole family. I just couldn’t. So I made a decision and ordered them to escape and live the rest of their lives like they were dead.
So what is he doing here? Why is he at the grand opening of Alpha Williams hotel? Did he come to expose me to Alpha Williams?
The lawyer's voice, when he spoke, was calm and calculated. His gaze flickered between Renee and myself. His eyes lingered on mine, a knowing glint flashing through them.
“Mr Smith,” Renee called, a look of disbelief and confusion replacing her anger. “How are you here?” She demanded.
“There’s no time for explanations,” he replied, his voice low and urgent. “I believe I can help you find Mr Williams,” he retorted, his expression remaining impassive.
I searched his face, looking for any clue as to what his plans were or if he had come to expose me, but there was nothing tangible for me to hold on to. I couldn’t decipher why he was here after I told him to hide!
My mind raced. The lawyer’s sudden reappearance was a twist I did not anticipate. This changes everything. Why did I save him in the first place? I didn’t tie the loose ends properly and now, it’s back to taunt me?
I shivered at the thought of my Alpha’s rage if he caught wind of this. That I disobeyed his order.
“What do you know?” Renee asked.
“I overheard them talking, I couldn’t stop them or intervene. They mentioned a secluded warehouse, not very far from..”
“The outskirts of the city,” I finished. Renee glanced at me. There is no hatred this time as a flicker of hope ignited in her eyes.
Finally! I’m slowly making her an ally.
“They plan to kill him,” the lawyer continued, his voice barely a whisper. “You must hurry.”
“Lead the way,” Renee growled at me, her voice firm.
“Easy with the tone of your voice Beta. I'm only trying to help,” I hissed.
We wasted no time to leave after Renee dropped instructions to the third in command to wrap up the event.
As we drove out, I saw the lawyer's figure from the rearview mirror, staring straight at our retreating car, hands akimbo.
Should I be worried? I did save him though, would he be a friend or a foe? One thing is for sure, I thought to myself, his presence might cause a ripple in my plans.
As we approached the building, we parked the car at a nearby spot and circled in, some of the men taking their wolf forms.
For some reason, my heart pounded in my chest. What if we are too late?
Some men positioned themselves outside while we burst into the warehouse. The air was thick inside and the only sound we could hear was the echo of our steps.
We rounded up and went further in, carefully surveying the area for any surprise attacks. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows.
Rider! The leader of the rogues. What deal does Alpha Dylan have with the rogue Alpha? And where the hell is he now?
Rider bursted out laughing, his face twisted in a cruel smirk. “The rescue party came quite late,” he drawled, “I got tired waiting for you all. I want to see the look on your faces when I blow Williams brains out,” he thundered.
“Let him go or else?”
“Or else what?” He barked at Renee. “One more word and he’ll be a dead man.
Renee took out her bow and aimed at him but I dragged her back and approached him instead. He pointed a gun at me and I raised my hands.
“Hey, I just want to talk. There must be something you want right? Just tell us and let him go.” I bargained with him.
“All I want is to see him dead. Can you give me that?” he asked in a creepy voice.
Rider gestured to one of his men to bring Alpha Williams out. I could swear my heart stopped beating for a minute when I saw him, battered and bruised.
Wolfsbane.
I guess they used it to weaken him. That is the only explanation for this much damage they did to him.
Rider made Williams kneel in front of him. “Don’t move or he’s dead,” he growled at Renee who tried to lunge forward.
I saw Williams’ fists clench and unclench weakly, as he released shallow breaths weakly.
Then Rider brought out his dick and pissed all over Williams as he stayed still, his knees to the ground. Renee screamed, lunging forward, followed by the Stone Heart warriors.
Just then, I caught a glimpse of a gun raised at Williams. Disoriented and without skipping a beat, I lunged forward, my body shielding Williams from the deadly bullet.
What am I doing?
The world seemed to slow down as I collapsed to the ground. The last thing I remember was the hollow echo of my head hitting the cold concrete floor.
