Alex

Cleopatra's POV

I was excited. I could hear my heart, pounding loudly. I finally have the book of Alphas after all this time. But the problem is, how do I get it to my pack?

I need to call Beta Jack but using anyone's phone could make them suspect that something is wrong right?

This only means one thing. I have to go into the city to get a new phone. I'll call Beta Jack to meet me up in town.

Hurriedly and without much hesitation, I made my way to the east wing and into the room I was assigned to. I slipped on a pair of leggings and changed my polo to a vintage shirt. Then I paired it up with sneakers and a crossing bag for the book. My hair was still in place so I added a little powder on my face and reapplied my lipstick.

Time to go.

As I was heading downstairs, I ran into Kira again. Why is she everywhere!

“Did you find the curling pin?” She asked with a stack of clean sheets in her hands.

“No. But I'm going into town to fix my phone,” I replied, raising my phone up so she could see, “so I can get some pins for myself while there.”

She smiled and nodded her head. As I was about to leave I called for her.

“Kira?” I called out and she stopped to look at me. “Do you know how I can get a ride to town? Is there like a motorcycle or someone that can drive me there?”

She stood for a moment, thinking. Then she smiled up. “Of course! There's a motorcycle in the garage. I'm sure Alpha Williams wouldn't mind you taking it for a ride.”

I thanked her and headed for the garage.
Inside, the garage was dimly lit and I could make out fleets of cars and some motorcycles. I saw one that caught my attention. A sleek black machine stood gleaming in a corner.

I swung my leg over the seat and straddled it, then turned on the ignition. As the engine roared to life, a wave of excitement and fulfillment roared inside me. I gripped the handlebars and slowly pulled away from the garage.

I accelerated and sped off. The wind whipped through my hair as I rode through the pack territory and into the lane that leads to the city.

After an hour and a few minutes' ride, I could make out the city structures from a distance and soon enough, I was driving through the streets of San Francisco.

I pulled up in front of a phone store and paid for a new phone with the card Beta Jack gave me. They fixed up the contacts for me and I exited the store.

“Beta Jack?” I said as he picked his call. “I have the book of Alphas!” I squealed.
The excitement in his voice made me feel more proud of myself.

“Where are you right now?” He asked, I could hear him rustling through shelves.

“I'm in town. I had to get a new phone because..,”

“Send me your location. I'm on my way,” he ordered, cutting me off. Classic Beta Jack

“OK.”

I sent him the address of a café where I plan on waiting till he arrives and called Alex.

The excitement in his voice told me that he had been anticipating my calls.

“I thought you would never call,” he said, sounding hurt.

I threw my head back and laughed out loud.

“Sorry about that Alex. I just got a new phone. I'm at the Grande Café, wanna meet?”

“You don't even need to ask!” He screamed and I could hear him turning on his car engine.

I smiled in satisfaction. Fate is on my side again.

I could smell him around. I knew he was trying to creep in on me. I smiled mischievously as he drew closer. When he was a few steps away I jumped out on him and he screamed in surprise.

“Oh my God Cleo! You scared me,” Alex cried.

I was laughing so hard that I had to clutch my stomach.

“How did you know I was behind you?” He asked.

I pointed at the glass window. “I saw you walk in and knew you were gonna try something funny,” I lied.

He chuckled slightly. “You haven't ordered yet?”

“Nope. Was waiting for you,” I replied.

He called the waiter over and placed an order for the both of us. He got an iced caramel latte for me and a Caffè mocha for himself with cake for the both of us.

“Mmmmmmmm, vanilla!” I said when I took a bite of the cake.
He smiled, “I knew you would like it,” then he gently patted his shoulders and we both laughed.

This was something I've never had all my life. Genuine friendship. I spent my years undergoing training and wrestling with our pack warriors while the girls in our pack were bonding over tea and house chores.

This right here? I would not want to lose it for anything. And I was determined to keep it that way.

“I have to take this call. I'll be right back,” I whispered to Alex and headed for the door. I saw Beta Jack standing over the other side of the road and crossed to meet him.

I got to him and discreetly handed the book over to him. We talked briefly and I left for the Café while he rode out.

“What was that all about?” Alex asked as soon as I got in.

“Oh! My Um..brother. I had to give my brother something he asked for,” I replied without thinking things through.

“You have a brother?” Alex asked, his brows furrowed.

“How about we go for a ride round the city?” I asked, a mischievous smile playing on my lips.

“In my car?” He asked, sounding excited.

Easy. Too easy. Alex can be easily distracted. How can he forget so soon that he was asking me about my so-called brother? I quiety studied his features. He looked my age with dusty brown hair and matching pair of eyes. "You know it's rude to stare, Cleo," he said, looking up to stare right back at me.

“Just come with me,” I replied amidst laughing and pulled him up and out of the cafe.

The feeling was exhilarating, riding with someone. He screamed into my ears from the passenger seat as I accelerated the speed.

“This is so amazing!!” He yelled.

Just when I was about to turn a corner, I almost collided with a car that was coming from the same direction I was headed.

“Fuck!” I muttered as I got down and took my helmet off, “Are you OK?” I asked Alex, looking him over. Before I could get any response from him, a voice growled from behind.

“Cleopatra?”

Uh-oh.
