"You know I own you, right?"

Cleopatra's POV

The next morning, we were already headed downstairs to join the troop.

Renee looked anything but pleasant when she saw me making it down the stairs with a little bag.

“What's going on Alpha,” she asked Williams, gesturing to me with a look of disapproval in her eyes.

“I know you don't approve but she's mourning. I can't leave her. Not when the killer hasn't been caught,” I heard Alpha William say to her.

“I just hope you realize what you're doing before it's too late,” she added and stormed off to join the other car.

“I'm so sorry,” I whispered, feigning hurt. “ I can stay back if this will be a problem.” I knew he wasn't going to let me stay back. Alpha Williams Deluca is now a pawn in my hands.

He won't accept that I stay back. Not after he had seen me wailing last night.

The ride to the Alpha King's territory was a quiet one. I had my eyes closed half of the journey like I was asleep.

A thought stuck in my mind as we neared the territory. It was something my Alpha said when he broke the news.

How did he know who Alex was? And how did he get to know about his name? Am I being delusional? I heard him say Alex and I never even mentioned that he was missing or who he was.

So what is going on?

Alpha Williams’ gentle squeeze on my thighs brought me back to reality. What if? Just what if there's more to this? What if Alpha Kane…No! He couldn't have done that.

“Are you sure you're ok?” I heard Alpha Williams asking for the second time.

I turned and looked into his eyes. Those are not the eyes of a cold murderer. What if someone framed him? Stop it Cleopatra! He killed Alex and he has to pay for it!

I flashed him a tired smile and placed my hand on his. “I'll be fine as long as you're right next to me.”

And I meant it. As long as he's next to me, I'll be fine. Only then can I have my revenge.

“That won't be a problem. I'll be right where you need me to be,” he whispered and stared ahead of the road.

As we entered the Alpha King's territory, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something was wrong.

The more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that my Alpha had known about Alex and his disappearance before I even mentioned it.

But how?

I tried to remember everything that had happened since Alex's admission to the hospital and his disappearance. Had I mentioned it unknowingly while on the phone with them?

The more I thought about It, the more confused I became.

When we finally arrived at the Alpha King's palace, I was greeted by a flurry of activity. Alphas and Omegas from all over the realm were gathered.

Some were just pulling up like us while others were just exchanging pleasantries. We stepped out and I followed Alpha Willaims through the crowd, my mind racing.

My eyes were darting from face to face, the uncertainty of the turmoil in my mind building up. Alpha Williams must have noticed as he linked his hands with mine and led me towards a building next to the pack house.

“We will be staying here. You should get some rest,” he said softly. I looked around at the decent house.

“We are not staying with the others in the pack house?” I asked and he nodded. Just how connected is he to the Alpha king that he would be given a separate lodge?

I had to find a way to talk to my Alpha without being too suspicious.

“I should go greet my Alpha. He should be here by now,” I said casually. I watched as his expression changed and his fists clenched.

“OK. Should I come with you?” He asked after a second thought and I shook my head.

“I'll be fine.” And with that, I walked away in search of Alpha Kane. I got into the pack house and spotted Alpha Kane standing near a window, looking out at the courtyard.

I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should approach him with the questions in my head. But then, I remembered the promise I had made to myself.

I would do whatever it took to bring Alex's killer down and that means ticking all the blank boxes.

I took a deep breath and walked towards Alpha Kane. He turned to face me, his expression grim.

“Cleopatra,” he said, his voice filled with urgency. “I was wondering when you will get here.”

“I am here now,” I replied, my voice barely audible.

Should I ask him how he found out about Alex? Should I just ignore it? The truth remains that Alpha Williams killed him. Whatever role my Alpha played shouldn't matter right?

But why do I feel like there is something deeper?

“Cleopatra,” I heard him call out to me. I looked up at him and his brows were furrowed quizzically. “Is everything alright? You seem distracted.”

I hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Yes Alpha Kane, everything's fine,” I said. “I just have a crazy migraine.”

Alpha Kane nodded with a smile plastered on his face. But not the comforting one or soft one. Somehow, I found it creepy.

“You'll be fine. And I got the vial from the last time just in case you need it,” he said.

“Thank you Alpha.” I paused after scanning the hall for a while. “I haven't seen Beta Jack,” I said, my eyes still searching the faces of the crowd in the hall.

“He's here somewhere. Getting ready for our plan,” he replied sharply, his voice low.

As I turned to leave, Alpha Kane called out to me. “Cleopatra,” he said. “Wait.”

I turned back, my heart pounding in my chest as soon as my eyes met his. What did he want to say? Does it have anything to do with Alex?

Alpha Kane hesitated for a moment, then spoke. “I need to talk to you,” he said. “In private.”

I nodded, my curiosity piqued. “Where?” I asked.

“The room assigned to me,” he replied.

I followed him out of the corridor and through the halls and into his room. What does he have to say that he needed this much privacy, I thought as he shut the door behind us.

“Cleopatra,” he began, his voice low and intense. “I need to tell you something.”

“What is it, Alpha?” I asked.

Alpha Kane hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. He took one step and was now close to me. I could feel him breathing down my neck as he leaned in.

I backed away instinctively, my eyes wide with surprise and confusion. What is going on?

Alpha Kane took a step towards me, his eyes narrowing.

“You know I own you right?” He said, his voice a low growl.

I could hear my heart beat over the noise outside as I realized what he was about to do.

“What?”
