The Cracks in her Facade
Renee’s POV
Something about Cleopatra seems so off, I can feel it. It seems like she has a mask on. From the first day she entered our pack, I could sense it somehow.
So why is Alpha Williams not sensing anything off about her? How does he end up believing anything she says? Because he's fucking her?
That last part made my insides ache. Some days, I pray to the moon goddess to make me Alpha Williams’ second chance mate but that is not being answered. Every time I see them together, I feel like the world is caving in on me.
I've been secretly crushing on my Alpha. Although I know I'm not supposed to, I can't help myself. The feelings keep growing each day and I want nothing more than to have Cleopatra out of the picture.
I fell for her tricks the day she took a bullet for my Alpha but there was something in her eyes later that day that made me rethink. She's not what she claims to be and I can prove that if only Alpha Williams would let me.
When I saw her earlier with the human man, I could only smile. It's only a matter of time before Alpha Williams is fed up. I can see his patience wearing thin. I may not even need to lift a finger and she would evict herself.
Mr Smith left with the envelope of money Alpha Williams gave him. How can he be this forgetful even after sounding so desperate for the money? Now I have to drive down here to give it to him. As I was about to turn to the corner that led to his home, I ran into her. Cleopatra! Why is she everywhere!
“What the fuck are you doing here?” I growled at her. How am I the only person that sees how suspicious she is?
“I never knew you own this place,” she replied simply with a smile. God I hate that smile.
“You know what I mean, Cleopatra. How are you here and why?” I probed further, “or would you rather I call Alpha Williams and tell him who I ran into on this side of town?” I threatened.
She did not flinch. She maintained the same smirk on her face.
“Dear Renee,” she drawled, “You will still tell him you saw me here either way so threaten me with something - befitting.”
How unbearable!
“Why are you here, Cleopatra?” I asked again and this time, she heaved a heavy sigh and ran a finger through her hair. That was when I noticed the blood on her hands and shirt. Did she kill someone?
“Not like I owe you any explanation though but since you are so interested in me, I'll tell you,” she took a deep breath and stared straight at me. She hesitated but not for long. “I was around the corner, taking care of something when I ran into..”
“Miss Cleopatra!!” A voice called out, we both turned in sync and saw Mr Smith waving his hands.
He drew closer, a smile plastered on his face. “You're still here?” he asked, looking at Cleopatra. He had blood stains on his cloth as well and looked as though he just struggled with something.
What is going on here?
“You know her personally?” I asked suspiciously.
“Ah-yes! My wife was in labor and I saw her passing through. She helped us,” he explained excitedly. There was nothing off in his eyes, if for anything, he looked at Cleopatra like she was some kind of demigod.
Why does it all have to be about her all the time!
“Is that so?” I muttered, “what a charitable thing to do Cleopatra,” I said with sarcasm laced in my voice. She noticed it and threw her head back in laughter.
“Hold on. Don't tell me you thought I murdered someone?” She looked at me and when I didn't respond she added, “Really? You think so low of me? Ouch!” I ignored her outburst and handed Mr Smith the envelope.
“You forgot this at the office.”
His expressions lit up and he took it. “Thank you so much. I thought it fell off on my way back home. Extend my gratitude to Mr Williams once more. I'll be forever grateful,” he said with his head bowed.
“I'll be leaving now. My wife needs me,” he said hurriedly and turned to leave.
“Mr Smith?” I called, causing him to stop on his track and turn. “Are you still up for tomorrow? About what we discussed?” I asked. He seems to be out of it, so I should remind him.
His gaze darted towards Cleopatra and then back at me. “Of course! That's the least I can do for the assistance,” he reassured me and left.
I watched him make it into his shabby house and shut the door. Should I be worried? Something seemed a bit off. I rolled my eyes when I saw Cleopatra standing beside me, hands akimbo.
Something is always off anytime she's around.
“What did I do this time?” She asked with a playful pout. “When will I ever be good enough for you, Beta Renee?”
“When you leave our pack and Alpha Williams alone!” I blurted out without thinking it through.
“Oh! Did Alpha Williams say I'm holding him prisoner?” She asked tauntingly, with a feigned innocent look in her eyes.
“Just get out of my way fucking bitch!” I muttered. Why are my emotions all over the place? Why does she keep pushing me?
“Woah easy now,” she retorted and held her hands up. “You do know you owe me right? You said I could collect my debt anytime I want,” she stated and approached me. “Don't forget that I haven't told Alpha Williams how careless you were with the Book of Alphas which he cherishes so much.”
God! If I could just snap her neck. Just this once, I'll be alright.
“I did not forget,” I replied with a low cold growl.
“Good.” She snickered. “Can you give me a ride back to my friend's place?” She asked, making her way to open the door before I could answer.
“I didn't agree to drive you yet,” I said coldly.
“What do you think your Alpha would say when he finds out you saw me stranded and decided to leave me out in the lonely, cold night? What if someone kidnaps me?” she added dramatically.
“You think I believed any of your made-up stories?” I bent low to meet her gaze from the car window with an evil smirk playing on my lips.
“Listen to me princess, I have a mask on just like you. But the day I find out you pose a threat to my pack or to my Alpha, that is the day I will reveal my true face and believe me, hell’s fury is just a little flame compared to my rage,” I growled slowly into her ears.
I saw a glint in her eyes for the first time and it wasn't flirty or cheerful. It was one that made a satisfied smile spread across my features.
She has no idea what I'm capable of, if pushed to the walls.
