A Storm within the pack
Cleopatra's POV
How is he here? Why? How did he know I would be here?
I stared at Beta Jack. Was I still dreaming? I moved my hand to pinch his cheek just to be sure and he grabbed them before they could get close to his face.
“What do you think you're doing?” He demanded coldly.
Oh my God! He's really here? How?
I got up immediately, as if a cold water had just been splashed all over me. “Beta Jack I…,”
“Save your explanations for the Alpha, you're coming home with me now,” he growled and pulled me up with a force.
“Beta Jack wait, I need to…,”
“You need to do what Cleopatra? You're lucky the Alpha didn't order for you to be killed! How could you disrespect him that way? Are You that clueless?” he spat angrily.
How is he here? How did he know where to find me? I've never mentioned Alex to him or anyone from my pack.
He grabbed my shoulders and shook me angrily, “Answer me when I ask you a question! What were you thinking, Cleopatra!?”
My thoughts were all over the place as I was trying to piece the puzzle together. How could he possibly know where I was?
“How did you find me here?” I managed to say. He blinked as if caught unawares but quickly replaced the expression with a renewed cold gaze.
“I tracked your phone,” he replied sharply.
“You've been spying on me? Monitoring my every movement?” I asked, confused and suddenly angry.
“That's none of your business,” he retorted, “All that matters is I've found you and you're coming back with me.”
My heart was pounding like a drum, and my mind raced. They've been following me? I felt a sudden wave of anger and betrayal. Why would they do that?
“No,” I whispered, the shock of the discovery still clouding my mind.
“What did you just say? You dare refuse an order?!” he growled.
His grip on my shoulder tightened, and I winced.
“Cleopatra, don't test me. You're lucky I convinced Alpha Kane to spare you. Now, let's go.”
I pulled away from his hold, my voice defiant and steady, “I'm not going anywhere with you, Beta Jack,” I declared.
I couldn't go back. Not now. Not when I have no lead on how to find Alex. I know they must have another mission for me, that's why they want me back.
A dangerous glint appeared in his eyes. “Oh, really? Try me.”
The way he said it made me flinch. I hung my head low when I saw the cold look in his eyes and the domineering aura that he gave off.
But he's our Beta after all and I have no choice but to obey.
“Fine,” I said, with a resigned tone. “Let's go.”
As we walked out of Alex's house, a wave of emotions washed over me. I was confused, angry and scared for Alex. But above all, I felt a deep sense of betrayal. Betrayal by my pack.
Does it mean they don't trust me?
I glanced at Beta Jack, his face a mask of indifference. I could feel there is something more to him being here but can't place my hand on it.
Could it be that he's telling the truth? Or maybe, just maybe, he knew more than he was letting on.
The ride back to the Silverfang Pack was a silent one. Beta Jack's grip on the steering wheel was tight, his knuckles white. I could feel the tension radiating from him.
I stared out of the window, the cool hot afternoon sun splashing my face. I tried to ignore the knot of confusion growing in my stomach but it won't go away.
I knew what awaited me back at the pack. Alpha Kane's wrath was one I knew very well. The memories of when he had me locked up in the silver room flashed through my mind and I flicked.
I had no doubt he would want to unleash another round of lessons on me.
My mind briefly went to the dream I had. Do we really have somewhere like that in our pack? I refuse to believe Alpha Kane can be that cruel.
But what if that's where he locks up all the people he's holding prisoner? I remembered the little girl from the Stone Heart Pack and her missing brother.
What if they are all locked up there? Stop it Cleopatra! You shouldn't doubt Alpha Kane!
I glanced back at Beta Jack, wondering if I should ask him but decided against it. That would make things worse for me given my current…situation.
As we pulled into the familiar driveway, my heart pounded in my chest and I tried to gather my thoughts. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for the storm Alpha Kane was going to unleash.
The moment we stepped inside the pack house, the air crackled with tension. Every pair of eyes was on me like I had something funny on my face.
But I held my head up high and walked with a confidence that amazed even me.
Then I saw him. Alpha Kane. Standing tall and imposing, his eyes burning with fury. He looked like a volcano on the brink of eruption.
“Cleopatra,” he growled, his voice low and commanding, “how dare you disobey me?”
I swallowed hard, straightening my back and stood defiantly. But that didn't stop the cold sweat that broke out on my forehead.
“I'm sorry, Alpha Kane,” I muttered, not giving any further explanation.
His eyes narrowed, and a dangerous glint appeared in them. “You will be punished for your defiance, Cleopatra.”
I expected that much. I saw the punishment coming and had already prepared my mind for it. What was the punishment anyway?
He dismissed Beta Jack and he left hesitantly. We were now alone in his office.
“Alpha Kane, It wasn't my intention to disobey you..,” I said but he motioned for me to keep quiet.
“You have betrayed my trust. Does this have anything to do with sleeping with Willaims? You suddenly feel like Luna?” he spat, his voice low and menacing.
Where are all these coming from? I wondered, confused and surprised.
“You will be punished severely,” he growled in his Alpha voice. “And this time, there will be no mercy.”
He looked dead serious but this time, I didn't cower back in fear. Something from inside me was resisting the Alpha power he was exuding.
His eyes narrowed as he stood, towering over me. But instead of fear, a sinister smile crept across my lips, revealing a darkness I've experienced just once. The day I killed our allies.
“Are you sure about that Alpha?” I growled and he stumbled back, a look of fear in his eyes.
