The Walls have Ears

The door burst open with a force that rattled the walls, and Alpha Kane stormed in, his eyes blazing with fury. Behind him, Renee stood, her face pale with exhaustion. She looked like she just ran a marathon race.

“Get our hands off her,” Kane growled at Eugene, his voice like thunder.

Williams tensed, his body language shifting into a defensive posture almost immediately. “She’s injured, Alpha Kane,” he replied calmly, though his eyes held a challenge.

Kane ignored him, his focus solely on Cleopatra. He advanced towards her, his steps deliberate and menacing.

“What have you done to her?” He growled.
A tense silence filled the room as the two Alphas stared each other down.

“I’m taking her with me,” he said in a cold voice that held no room for argument.

“Stand back,” Williams warned, his own voice low and dangerous. “She’s hurt and needs to be cleaned up.”

“She’s a member of my pack,” Alpha Kane said, his voice steady. “I am leaving here with her, whether you like it or not.”

Kane’s eyes narrowed, his face a mask of anger and determination. “Or would you rather fight me?” He challenged, a smirk playing on his lips.

“What’s going on?” Cleopatra managed to whisper as she regained consciousness, her voice barely audible. She glanced at Williams and then her eyes met those of Kane’s, she flinched.

Before anyone could answer, a sharp pain shot through Cleopatra’s body. She gasped, her vision blurring. A sense of dread washed over her. What is happening?

Eugene rushed to her side but Alpha Kane blocked him off. “No one touches her,” he warned, “I don’t know what you did to her or what you gave her but if anything happens to her, I will come for you like never before.”

He bent to pick her up and Cleopatra screamed at the impact. He backed away immediately as if pushed by a force.

“I know she’s a member of your pack. But can we at least treat her before you take her back? I feel responsible. She took a bullet for me,” Alpha Williams said, controlling his frustration.

Kane’s eyes darted to that of Cleopatra and she gave him a knowing look, silently praying that he leaves. She needed to fulfill her mission without their interference.

“I want to speak to her. Alone,” Kane demanded, his gaze still fixed on Cleopatra.

Williams was angry. How dare he barge into his territory unannounced? The silent hatred between the two Alphas was thicker than fog.

The only reason why he let him be was because of Cleopatra and the fact that she got hurt, trying to save him. As if that didn't hurt his pride already.

With a low grunt, Williams stormed out of the room, followed by Renee and Eugene.
As soon as they left, Cleopatra sat up, wincing at the ache in her body. The dried blood all over her thighs and hands caused a wave of nausea to wash over her.

She looked down at her thighs and the wound was already closing up. So why is she still in pain? She wondered. What really happened? She tried to remember but couldn’t grasp what it was.

“Why didn’t you inform me that Dylan double crossed me,” Kane asked, his voice curt and cold. “How dare you act on your own? And what is this charade about saving Williams?” He growled, looking down at Cleopatra dangerously.

Cleopatra felt cornered and hurt. She was in pain and all her Alpha cared about was his stupid plan?

Cleopatra knew she should be angry, not him. She lowered her head, unable to meet his intense gaze. But something felt different.

She wasn’t afraid of him and the sheer Alpha power that emanated from him didn’t intimidate her this time. Why? She thought.

“I…I don’t know what to say,” she stammered, “It happened suddenly and I thought this was the best decision to get him to trust me,” her voice barely audible as she didn’t want anyone to overhear their conversation.

Kane’s gaze softened slightly, but the coldness still remained. “As long as this mission is concerned, never act on your own, Cleopatra,” he ordered and she nodded.

He finally noticed her appearance and asked, “Why are you covered in blood?”
“I don’t know. I woke up like this.” She replied, her voice laced with confusion.

He turned to leave, but then paused, his gaze not meeting hers. “You must be careful while here, I find them very suspicious. I think they injected something inside of you that is making you hallucinate. Don’t take any medicine they give you,” he warned.

He then reached for his pocket and brought out a small bottle. The substance was like water. “Drink it all up,” he ordered. “It will nullify whatever they injected you with.”

She hesitated, but for a split second. There is a tiny voice inside her head that is screaming no but this is Alpha Kane. He can’t hurt her.

Cleopatra forced down the bitter liquid, wincing at the foul taste. It burned her throat, but she swallowed it obediently. As the liquid spread through her system, she felt a strange sensation, a tingling warmth that spread through her body then she was numb. She felt like her old self again.

Kane watched her closely, his expression unreadable. After a few moments, he seemed satisfied. “Rest for now," he ordered, his voice firm, “Resume your mission as soon as possible and Cleopatra? Get me the book of Alphas this time.”

“Ok Alpha Kane,” she replied.

“Don’t ruin this opportunity,” his voice, low and intense. “You have his trust already, I saw the way he looked at you. Make him depend on you, get closer to him more than you are now, learn his plans, his weaknesses. And then, we strike when he least expects it.”

Cleopatra mentally rolled her eyes. That was the plan all along and if they had let her do it her way, she would have likely succeeded by now.

“I know what I must do,” she said, her voice firm.

“Good,” Kane whispered.

“Any news from Alpha Dylan? I’m wondering how Rider got to be involved in all of this. You never mentioned him as part of the plan,” she asked, confused.

“Leave Dylan to me. Concentrate on your mission to seduce Williams.”

Cleopatra nodded, her heart filled with a new resolve to accomplish her mission.

Just then, a sharp gasp echoed from outside the door, followed by hurried retreating footsteps. Both Kane and Cleopatra exchanged a tense glance, their senses on high alert.

Someone was eavesdropping on them. Who could it be? And how much did they hear?
