Cleopatra's Betrayal
Renee's POV
I knew this day would come. I've never trusted Cleopatra. Not even once. There was always something off about her and I knew it was only a matter of time till her mask fell off.
And it just did.
Marcus took a step forward, his eyes never leaving Cleopatra. “She was Kane's from the beginning, Alpha. She's been reporting back to him this entire time. Ask her if I'm lying.”
Williams looked at Cleopatra, obviously searching her face for the truth. He looked as though if she were to tell him that she is innocent he would believe her right away.
I looked at Cleopatra carefully. Her lips parted, but no words came out. That was enough to answer.
Marcus pressed on, his voice low and sharp. “She's a bad seed, Williams. We need to hand her over to the council, if not, she'll destroy our lives.”
Cleopatra's eyes finally met Williams’. Hers were filled with guilt and desperation. But she still had that air of power and control around her. “It's not like that, Williams. Please, let me explain…”
Williams took a step back, pulling her arm away from him with a force. All I could think of was how to make her pay.
“Had I been betrayed this entire time? So none of it was real?” Williams whispered in a voice that broke my heart. He had given her everything, even lived as though for her.
And as they all stood there, paralyzed by the enormity of it all, I knew what I must do. The faces of our men I lost during the ambush all because of her flashed through my mind. I'd blamed myself for not being strong enough. But the rat was lying next to my Alpha all along.
I made her a promise when she begged me to trust her. If I was ever to find out that she is indeed responsible, I would kill her. And I wasn't bluffing.
While they all stood, distracted by the weight of the revelation, I quickly lunged at her in one swift motion and plunged a knife into her stomach. Her cry pierced the air, sharp and agonizing.
Time seemed to slow as Cleopatra doubled over, clutching the knife buried in her stomach. Her wide, disbelieving eyes locked into mine, a mix of pain and betrayal radiating from her gaze. But there was no regret in my heart. Not for her.
“Renee!” Williams shouted, rushing towards Cleopatra as she collapsed to the ground but Rob beat him to it. He knelt beside her, his hands trembling as he tried to stop the blood seeping through her fingers.
“What have you done?” he cried, tears rolling down his eyes. The others stood frozen. Shocked by my sudden attack. But I didn't care. She deserved this.
“I warned her,” I said, my voice cold and steady, as I wiped the blood from my hands. “This is justice.”
Williams’ eyes flashed with rage, his gaze snapping to me. “What have you done?” he growled, his voice thick with fury. “This was not your call to make.”
I scoffed, shaking my head. “She's been playing us all along, Williams and I warned you as well. Look around you. Look at what she's done. Do you really think she would've come clean now if Marcus hadn't exposed her? She's a snake, and you've been blind to it because of what you think you feel for her.”
From the corners of my eyes, I saw her vampire family, Rob, pick her up gently. His face mirrored the exact pain on Cleopatra's face as he struggled to position her well, amidst the trembling of his hands. The others who had come with them, rushed and supported him as they made to leave the territory.
“You've made a very big mistake today,” he growled at me and with that, they all dashed out with inhuman speed.
Williams turned back to me, his expression torn between fury and devastation. “She betrayed me, Renee! Me! And not you!” he growled.
“I did what needed to be done,” I replied firmly, standing my ground. “She would have cost us everything. She already has. Don't forget the lives we lost because of her.”
His eyes burned into mine, the weight of his inner turmoil evident. For a moment, it felt like the entire world stood still as he battled within himself, torn between loyalty to his pack and whatever remained of his feeling for Cleopatra.
“Remember the ambush? How many of our men have we lost? Did you forget so quickly?” I continued. I saw his fist clench and his jaw tighten in anger.
At least, he knows the weight of betrayal. Her betrayal.
I could feel the tension in the air, the atmosphere thick with the consequences of my actions. But I refused to back down. She deserved it and more.
Just then, Marcus stepped closer, his eyes gleaming with an intensity I hadn't seen before. “She chose to betray us, Alpha,” he said. “You know Renee’s right. Cleopatra was never one of us, and now we have a chance to fix the damage she caused.”
Williams’ jaw clenched again, the storm of emotions raging inside him. He looked over at me, his expression unreadable but I could tell he was furious at her betrayal. There was one thing Williams loathes more than anything.
Betrayal.
“Get a car ready for me. I should pay my uncle a visit tomorrow,” he said finally, turning away from me. “Whoever lays eyes on Cleopatra should capture her. She should pay for her betrayal.”
I watched him walk away, his shoulders heavy with the burden of what had just happened. There was no going back now. Someone I felt at peace that she finally got what she deserved.
At the end, I put her in her place. But why do I feel troubled?
As I watched Williams disappear into the shadows of the pack house, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was far from over. The murderous look I saw in his eyes when I mentioned the ambush and attacks sent a chill down my spine.
Whatever happens, I'll be ready. I'll defend this pack like I swore to. I ordered for our warriors to dispose of the bodies of our enemies and made my way into the pack house. It was a long, long night but we won. But could we have won if Cleopatra didn't show up?
‘No! Stop it Renee’ I muttered to myself. She's a liar and a betrayer.
I got into my room and stopped right at the doorway, fear gripping my heart.
‘Where's Alex and why can't I feel him?’
