His growing obsession
Williams POV (cont.)
My wolf was howling in fury, clawing at my insides. I could feel the heat radiating from me, threatening to engulf the entire office.
Renee looked at me with terrified eyes but I didn't care at this point. Right now, all I could think about was Cleopatra, defying me, spending the night with that human.
I stormed out of the office, ignoring Renee's efforts to get me to calm down. My mind was racing, conjuring what they could be doing right now. I had to get to her, to assert my dominance. I wouldn't allow someone I share my bed with to defile me.
My pride was hurt. And that's it. Not that I have special feelings for her.
“Drive me to where she is,” I ordered Renee, without meeting her gaze.
“Alpha Williams, you should think things through,” Renee said for the one hundredth time as we drove down to the address where she dropped off Cleopatra.
“This doesn't look good on you. How do you think this would make her feel about you?” She said, trying to get me to change my mind.
“Just drive,” I ordered coldy and she accelerated the speed.
The car screeched to a halt in front of a modest house. This is where she is? I stepped out of the car, scanning the street carefully. The air was filled with the scent of the night and for the first time since I ordered Renee to drive, I felt a sense of unease. What am I really doing?
Renee sensed my thoughts and grabbed my arms. “We could just leave Alpha. This is pointless.”
A part of me knew she was right but the other part didn’t want to hear any of it. My wolf was eager to drag Cleopatra back to the pack.
I ignored her and walked towards the house, my footsteps echoing in the quiet night. I knocked forcefully, my knuckles white from clenching my fists.
A moment later, the door creaked open, revealing the human. He looked ruffled and I could smell Cleopatra all over him. His eyes widened in shock and confusion, then quickly turned to anger.
“What do you think you’re doing here?” he demanded, his voice laced with hostility.
That made me more angry. Does he think he could talk to me in that tone because he’s laid with Cleopatra? Just the thought of both of them together made my insides churn.
I didn’t bother replying. I pushed past him and entered the house. The place was dimly lit, and the air was thick with the scent of Cleopatra, the sweet perfume she usually wears. My wolf growled, demanding to be unleashed.
Come to think of it, why can’t I detect her real scent but just her cologne?
I pushed the thoughts aside and searched the house, my eyes scanning every corner. Where was she?
The house was empty, save for the human who seemed to be growing increasingly agitated.
“She’s not here,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Maybe you should try the next house?”
Anger flared within me. This insolent man dared to mock me? I lunged at him and grabbed him by the neck. Renee stepped forward and held my shoulders, trying to get me to free the man.
“Alpha, you shouldn’t be doing this. We have to go,” she whispered to my ears alone.
“Where is she?” I demanded, my voice low and menacing.
“She left,” he finally managed to say after hesitating for a while. “Went back to her house I guess.”
I released him and stormed out of the house, the cold night air doing little to cool my anger. Could she have gone back to my pack or hers? I wondered.
“Let’s go home,” I said to Renee, my voice dropping low.
She kissed her teeth and stared at me from the rearview mirror. “Alpha, I don’t know you anymore. You seem to lose control over anything that has to do with Cleopatra. I hope you don’t make a decision that could potentially harm our pack,” she whispered and turned on the ignition.
The drive back was a blur. My mind raced as I tried to piece together the puzzle. Was this something more than just exerting my dominance? I’m very sure I don’t have feelings for her. So why am I always out of control when it comes down to Cleopatra?
As we pulled into the park’s territory, I could feel a sense of relief wash over me. This was my domain. I felt in control.
I stormed into the pack house, the need to make sure Cleopatra was here, overcoming my reasoning once more.
Just as I was about to go up, one of my warriors stopped me. “Good evening Alpha,” he greeted with a slight bow of his head.
“What is it, Abel?” I asked, my eyes wandering up the stairs.
“We caught someone snooping around the territory earlier today,” he said.
That caught my attention. “What do you mean by that?” I demanded my attention fully on him.
“We tried tracking him down but he disappeared before we could get to him. It seemed like he knew the area very well,” he said.
“So you mean to tell me that someone attempted to breach our security and he wasn’t caught?” I growled in a menacing voice.
“We will track him down. Some of our men are camped just outside the territory. I’ve tightened the parameters.” he added, his gaze fixed on the ground.
“Are there men patrolling the ground?” I asked angrily.
“Yes Alpha. We are keeping watch, just in case he returns.”
“Renee!” I called. “Make sure there are eyes everywhere and the parameters are secured,” she nodded and left. I dismissed Abel, But before he could go far, I called him back.
“Have you seen Cleopatra?” I demanded, my voice harsh.
“She came back a few hours ago, and went straight upstairs. I haven’t seen her down since,” he replied.
I turned and walked towards my room. What is she playing at this time? I opened the door to my room but it was empty, no sign of her, even in the bathroom.
Could it be? With hurried strides, I went to the east wing. I tried the handle, and to my surprise, it was unlocked. I pushed the door open and stepped inside. The room was dark, save for the light that seeped in from the window.
Cleopatra was lying on the bed, her back to me. Her body was shaking slightly, as if she was crying.
I walked over to the bed and sat down beside her. I reached out to touch her shoulder, but she flinched and pulled away.
“Don’t touch me,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
I froze. What was happening?
