"I'm protecting you"

Cleopatra's POV

Renee crashed into the wall with a sharp gasp, and for a split second, the hallway was silent, except for the pounding of my heart as I took a moment to catch my breath. I stared at her, my chest heaving, unsure of what I had just done.

Her eyes widened in shock, but there was something else there too—fear.

Before I could say anything, the sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor. Heavy, deliberate, accompanied with a low growl. Someone was coming.

I glanced down the hall, my instincts flaring.

Renee groaned, struggling to push herself off the ground, and my phone lay forgotten between us, the screen flickering with Beta Jack's number still on display. My mind raced—should I call Beta Jack or handle this myself? But before I could decide, a cold voice rang out from behind me.

"What have you done, Cleopatra?"

I turned slowly, dread pooling in my stomach. Alpha Williams stood at the end of the corridor, his eyes gleaming with a mix of confusion and... disappointment.

I froze, a wave of guilt washing over me. Had he seen everything?

The hallway seemed to narrow, the walls closing in as Alpha Williams’ voice reverberated off the hard surfaces.

I glanced back at Renee, who was now propped up against the wall, clutching her side and wincing in pain. Her eyes locked on mine and I muttered a sorry.

“I–I didn't mean to,” I stammered, struggling to find my voice. I really didn't mean to, my mind was racing with so many questions at the same time at that point. I just lost it briefly.

Alpha Williams took a slow, measured step towards me. His gaze was intense, yet soft as he was accessing the situation. “Why did you do that?” he asked softly and a sigh of relief escaped my throat. How could anyone accuse him of being ruthless?

I definitely need to get to the bottom of this.

“I'm sorry. My mind was pretty occupied and I…I'm sorry,” I whispered. His gaze was now soft as he studied me.

“Renee are you OK?” he called out and she flexed her muscles a little bit before walking up to us.

“I guess. That was crazy by the way,” she replied and stood beside Williams.

“I know a lot is going on now and you are probably agitated, we all are. But you need to remain calm,” he said, squeezing my hands gently as a gesture of comfort but it made my heart melt.

“Is this why you were furious?” Renee asked, staring at my phone.

My heart pounded in my chest, each beat echoing louder than the other when I glanced at her with my phone. What did she see?

As I made to snatch the phone from her, she passed it over to Alpha Williams. His brow furrowed in concentration and then his fist clenched angrily.

What did they see? Have they found out why I'm here? My mission?

“I thought he's dead?” I heard Renee say and my racing heart hit a brake.

“What is that about?” I asked, reaching out for my phone but Alpha Williams raised it above his head. He turned his back to me and I strained to see what he was doing. God I hope he doesn't find anything suspicious.

“Can I have my phone please,” I barked and he tossed it over to me. I checked and there was nothing on it. “What did you see, Renee? There's nothing here!” I screamed at both of them in confusion.

Alpha Williams flashed Renee a knowing glance and she chuckled. “I didn't see anything. Was just trying to bait you into saying what got you so rattled.”

But I knew something was up. “Come, let me get you settled in,” Alpha Williams cooed and placed his hand on my lower back, pulling me towards his bedroom.

“Wait…” I argued but he kept pulling me away towards the room. What are they hiding? Who was Renee referring to when she said that earlier? Alex? Oh my God! Did the kidnapper send the location? Did they see it?

I tried to steady my breath as we got to his room and he clicked the door shut behind us.

“Alpha Willia…”

He interrupted me with a hot kiss. His tongue plunged into mine as I clutched onto him. I pushed at his chest and broke the kiss.

“What are you…” But he did it again. Is he trying to distract me? So I don't ask further questions? Well he needs to try harder cause I'm not about to…

My thoughts were lost in the warmth of his hands as they traveled down my back, pulling me closer. His kisses became more insistent, more demanding, and my mind began to blur with a haze of passion.

I tried to cling to the question regarding my phone but his touch was intoxicating, overwhelming, and soon all I could focus on was the heat between us.

“Cleopatra,” Alpha Williams whispered against my lips, his voice husky and filled with something raw. “You need to trust me.”

Trust? It sounded so foreign. How could I trust him when so many secrets hung between us? But then his mouth moved to my neck, trailing heated kisses that sent shivers down my spine. I gasped, my body reacting to him despite the confusion swirling in my thoughts.

His lips found mine once again and captured it in a passionate kiss. I gasped, grabbing onto his broad shoulders for support, the roughness of his touch a sharp contrast to the softness of my own skin.

My fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer, as he lifted me off the ground, carrying me towards the bed.

He pulled back slightly, his eyes locking onto mine with a fire that I hadn't seen in him before. Then, with a soft sigh, he brushed his thumb across my lips, his gaze softening. “I'm protecting you. That's all you need to know right now.”

Before I could say anything or ask what he meant, he struck me so hard on my neck. I looked up at him, confused at what was happening.

As I slipped into unconsciousness, I heard the door open slightly and a voice from the doorway asking, “Is she out?”. And then darkness consumed me.

Is he really ruthless like Alpha Kane said?
