The guest

The book of Alphas!

Cleopatra was beyond short of words, excited for what she just found. She reached for her phone and dialed Beta Jack’s number but it went straight to voicemail.

The rapt knock on the door had her scrambling around trying to hide the book.

“What do you have in your hands?” Renee said as she walked in on Cleopatra.

Cleopatra met Renee's eyes squarely. She was doing a good job hiding her fear of being caught. If it was any of the maids, she would have tricked them by any means but Renee doesn't seem like a gullible person.

She knew there was no way out of this. “I saw this, lying on the bed when I got here,” she said, stretching out the book towards Renee, “Am I not allowed to read it?”

Renee marched towards her and snatched the book from her hands.

“Do you have a habit of touching what's not meant for you?” Renee growled at her.

Cleopatra knew the question was not just about the book.

“You mean it's a sacred book? Something that was meant to stay hidden? Oh my God I'm so sorry. Who left it out in the open then?” she asked.

The narrowed glint in Renee's eyes gave her away.

“I think Alpha Williams will be thrilled to find out that I got a hold of this book and even opened it,” Cleopatra hummed, stopping Renee in her tracks.

“I dare you to tell him!” Renee snarled, her back turned to Cleopatra.

“Oh how I love me some good old dare!” Cleopatra exclaimed, clapping her hands excitedly.

“Now tell me, why did you come here in the first place? I'm sure it's not because you missed me,” she added mischievously.

“The Alpha would meet you and the guest in the meeting room. You are to go wait for him,” she answered, her voice calm this time around.

“Ok. I also have other news to share with the Alpha,” Cleopatra chimed, putting emphasis on the news.

She turned to leave but Renee stopped her. “What do you want?” she asked, angry at the fact that she had to bargain with Cleopatra.

Cleopatra smiled sweetly. “Oh but I don't want anything…at the moment,” she drawled, “Can I let you know the price for my silence when it's time?”

Renee nodded curtly and left the room, burning with anger. She didn't want Alpha Williams to see her as incompetent. Not when she's trying her best to please him.

Not when she has a secret crush on him!

As soon as the door closed, Cleopatra breathed out a sigh of relief, “Phew! That was a close one,” she muttered to herself, “I would have scored a big one if I handed the book to Beta Jack.”

She debated calling Beta Jack and informing him but what's the need anyway? He would just scold her for being too slow.

“I will get my hands on it soon enough,” she whispered.

It was almost time for the meeting. Cleopatra dashed into the bathroom for a quick bath.

“I hope they serve us dinner during the meeting,” she hummed while she got dressed.

Cleopatra picked out a red mini flay gown that stopped inches above her knee and slipped on some comfy slippers. She's not about to overdress for a meeting that doesn't involve her in any way.

Does Alpha Williams know who the guest is? Cleopatra wondered as she let her hair fall loosely over her shoulders. She doesn't like wearing her hair down but couldn't find her hair clip.

Her stomach grumbled, reminding her that she still needs to eat. Yawning, Cleopatra left the room and headed for the meeting place.

Her face fell when she didn't see any food on the table but rather saw Theo’s annoyingly handsome face, looking around suspiciously.

“Hey Cleo!!” he called, gesturing for her to come sit next to him, “I didn't see you all evening, hope you know we are searching for the tunnel tonight?”

If only he could read her mind. Cleopatra felt like choking the truth out of him and peeling his face off to reveal who he truly is but she couldn't. She's working under her Alpha’s orders.

She nodded and took two seats away from him as he chatted away about how classy and expensive Alpha Williams's pack house is and how it's all built on the blood of his sister.

Cleopatra rolled her eyes, wishing that someone, anyone would just walk in and snap Theo’s neck.
Guess what came to her rescue?

Food!

Cleopatra squealed and clapped her hands excitedly as the maids brought in trays of different dishes.

She was about to stand up and go over to the other side of the table where the maids placed her personal favorites when her feet gave way and she landed on Theo’s laps, his arms, wrapped around her lower back.

The door opened almost immediately.

She sat still, frozen, wondering what just happened when the voice of Alpha Williams boomed through the room and she scrambled up like she was just burnt.

“What are you doing here?” Alpha Williams growled as he came face to face with Theo, confusion laced in his brows.

“We are having a meeting, remember?” Theo answered cockily, “Nice to meet you Mr Williams, I'm Theo Bernard, the council sent me for the negotiation.”

“Is this some sort of joke?” Alpha Williams asked angrily, turning to face Cleopatra.

“I thought you knew about it, why didn't they inform you though?” she asked sincerely.

Alpha Williams seemed to have accepted the presence of Theo. He took his seat at the end of the table, directly opposite Theo, eyeing him skeptically.

“Get over here Cleopatra,” he growled in a low voice that only wolves could hear.

As if controlled by an unknown force, Cleopatra found herself moving towards Alpha Williams against her will. What is going on? She thought, but couldn't stop herself.

“You don't have any right to order her around, she came with me!!” Theo thundered like he could do anything.

“Sit,” he commanded, gesturing to his laps and totally ignoring Theo.

She sat, like a trained puppy.

“Now why are you really here?” he growled, looking directly at Cleopatra, his voice dangerously low.
