A Wolf's Resolve
Williams’ POV
My chest tightened with the weight of responsibility and loss. Every instinct screamed to run after her, but my duty held me back, like chains around my wrists.
I was trapped.
Just as I was about to snap at the council member, to tell him to go to hell, the door swung open, and all eyes turned to the figure standing in the doorway. I tensed immediately, my heart still racing from the flood of emotions that had consumed me since I woke up to an empty bed.
My mind was still trying to wrap itself around the fact that Cleopatra was gone, and I can't go after her. But now, as I focused on the intruder, my frustration turned to something else entirely.
“You?”
The room fell into a tense silence, and I felt my jaw clench as she stepped inside with a slow, deliberate grace. She was dressed provocatively, as always, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of amusement and something more dangerous.
The council members exchanged glances, and one by one, they began to excuse themselves, sensing the rising tension. Soon, it was just me and her, standing alone in the room.
Anya. Alpha Othello's daughter.
“Alpha Williams,” she purred, her voice a silken drawl as she moved closer. “I came to speak to you. Alone.”
I didn't move. I didn't even blink. My blood simmered beneath my skin, already too close to boiling after the morning I'd had. The last thing I needed right now was this. Her.
“Let me get this straight. You left your pack early this morning, just to come see me? How noble!” I growled, stepping back as she approached. But she didn't stop.
Her hips swayed as she walked, and she wore a smile that made my stomach turn. She was trying to play a game I had no interest in.
“Oh, come now,” she said with a soft, mocking laugh, “don't be so cold, Alpha. I'm representing my father for the coronation. And oh—I came with an offer. You must know by now that my father sees the potential in uniting with you, and I…well, I see more than just potential.”
Her words slithered over me, and I recoiled inwardly. How has she become so brazen? I turned to leave, but in a flash, she was in front of me, blocking my exit. Before I could react, she reached out, her hands suddenly grabbing mine.
I stiffened as she pulled my hands towards her body and pressed them firmly against her chest, her full breasts molding against my palms.
“You feel that?” she whispered, her eyes dark with intent as her lips curled into a seductive smile. “I can give you everything, Williams. Power. Wealth. Influence in both worlds—ours and the human one. Think about how powerful we could be together.”
Revulsion shot through me like a bolt of lightning, and I ripped my hands away from her as if they'd been burned. I stumbled back a step, glaring at her as anger surged up inside me, raw and uncontainable.
“Don't you ever—ever—touch me like that again,” I snarled, my voice a low growl. The audacity of her, thinking I could be swayed by cheap, seductive tactics after everything I'd been through.
But Anya didn't flinch. In fact, she seemed more amused than offended. Her smile widened, and she took a slow step closer, her voice dropping to a sultry whisper.
“You need me, Alpha Williams,” she said, her eyes locking with mine. “You might not want to admit it, but deep down, you know it's true. Together, we could rule both realms. You'd be untouchable with me by your side. And if you're worried about Cleopatra…well, let's be honest. She's the one who betrayed you, isn't she? The one responsible for the death of your men.”
At the mention of Cleopatra's name, something inside me snapped. I moved faster than I thought possible, grabbing Anya’s arm in a bruising grip. She gasped, but the seductive mask she wore didn't falter.
“Don't you dare speak the name of my woman,” I growled, my voice laced with venom. “You're not even half of the woman Cleopatra is. She's more noble, more powerful, more—-”
“More of a traitor?” Anya interrupted, her voice sharp with jealousy. “Is that what you were going to say?” The woman who caused your pack to bleed? How do you think the entire realm will react when they find out that she—a traitor—will be their queen? Their Luna? You think they'll just sweep it under some blind carpet?”
I gripped her arm tighter, feeling the surge of fury ignite through every nerve in my body. She was trying to get under my skin, and worse, she was trying to use Cleopatra's name like a weapon. But I wouldn't let her.
Cleopatra is mine. And no one, not even the Alpha King or the realm, would turn me against her.
“Say one more word about her,” I warned, my voice low and dangerous, “and I'll show you exactly how much of a mistake it was to come here.”
Anya’s eyes flickered with fear but she still managed to mask it with a cold and calculated smile. She leaned closer, her lips almost brushing my ear as she whispered, “You're making a mistake, Williams. She is nothing but trouble. You'll see soon enough. When the realm turns on you for choosing her, don't come crying to me. You'll regret rejecting me. This is my last offer.”
I released her arm, shoving her away from me, the rage boiling beneath my skin. “Get out,” I spat. “Before I do something the entire realm will regret.”
She hesitated for a moment, her expression darkening, but she turned, her heels clocking against the floor as she made her way to the door. Just as she reached it, she glanced back over her shoulder, her eyes gleaming with something I can't quite place.
“You'll surely regret this, Williams,” she said softly, her voice dripping with malice. “And when you do, I'll be right here, to offer my shoulder.”
Then she was gone, leaving a calm silence in her wake. God I hate that woman. I stood there, my chest heaving, the taste of fury and disgust still thick in my mouth.
I clenched my fists at my sides, trying to force the tension from my muscles, but the words she had thrown at me stuck like thorns in my mind.
Kane needs to pay for this.
I need to find Cleopatra. I need to set things right. But right now, the weight of my responsibilities kept me shackled, unable to move.
And then, as if the universe wasn't done throwing curveballs my way, the door creaked open again.
