A sudden blow
Cleopatra's POV
Fuck. How did she know that I was here?
I turned around, after plastering a fake smile on my face.
“Kira! What are you doing here? I said, trying not to sound suspicious.
She smiled and looked away with a distant look in her eyes. “I just came out to grab some laundry from the infirmary and noticed you hiding by that corner. I figured you didn't want Alpha Willaims to know you're here no?” She asked all at once.
“No, you got it all wrong this time. I didn't want him to know I wanted to see the pack doctor because of my recent… experiences. I don't want to cause him more trouble,” I paused and looked at her before I continued.
“You were right. Alpha Willaims is a good man and even though my intentions weren't clear before, I know better now,” I finished while maintaining a sincere and remorseful expression.
Looks like she bought it. I thought inwardly and smiled.
She took my hands into hers and squeezed it gently, “I know you're a good person and I know you won't do anything to harm this pack. That's another reason why I didn't tell Alpha Williams about you,” she whispered.
Am I a good person? I couldn’t help but feel a tinge of guilt. That doesn’t matter anyway so I pushed it aside.
I’m a good person, that’s why I want to rid the world of Alpha Williams DeLuca.
She started walking towards the Infirmary and then stopped mid way to look back at me. “Are you coming?” She called out and I followed her hurriedly.
I didn't plan on actually seeing the pack doctor obviously, so what will I tell him brought me here? Umm, I could say I’ve been feeling dizzy since morning? Or that I had a vision? About what?
“Kira said you wanted to see me?” I heard the pack doctor say. We were now alone in the infirmary, Kira was gone.
“Umm yes..so I need something, like an aspirin? I’ve got a bad headache and it won’t stop,” I lied, clutching my head to make it look real.
He bought it anyway as he began searching the counter and brought out an aspirin for me.
“Thank you,” I said softly and turned to leave.
“Cleopatra?” he called and I stopped on my track.
What now?
“Yes?” I answered with a feigned look of surprise.
“How are you feeling inside? Have you noticed anything unusual? Do you still have visions like the last time?” he asked, with concern etched on his face.
“Yes..no..I mean no. I feel pretty good now doc, except for the headache,” I answered quietly.
He seemed to be digesting what I said with a look of uncertainty in his eyes.
“Are you sure? You know you could come to me if you feel like it right? I still feel that you have a lot to learn about your wol..”
“I’ll definitely come to you if I have any more…concerns,” I replied hastily, cutting him off. Last thing I need is for them to poison me under the guise of ‘helping me’. Alpha Kane already warned me about them.
“Ok. I’ll keep an eye out for you then,” he replied and got busy with the books on his desk.
I said a soft ‘thanks’ and exited his office. I need to report to Beta Jack about this, so they will know that Alpha Williams is on to them. But how do I do that without my Alpha killing the people he’s holding prisoner to teach the spies a lesson?
I wandered back into the pack house, my mind reeling with thoughts of how to save Holly’s brother and the rest.
But do I need to?
“What the fuck do you mean by that?!” I heard Alpha Williams yell. I got closer and saw him on the phone inside his office. He sounded furious.
“Why haven’t you gotten a hold of Mr Smith? Did he just fall off the face of the earth?”
I smiled in content when I heard Mr Smith really took my advice this time. I don’t need him showing up in places that could expose me to either Alpha Williams or my Alpha finding out I didn’t complete the mission.
I leaned in closer to get the full information, my ear pressed closely to the slightly opened door.
“How can he be gone when he promised to tell me what he overheard the night of my abduction?” he growled, obviously agitated.
Wait what? What did he hear? Did he perhaps overhear my conversation with Alpha Dylan that night? Or am I just overthinking this?
I quietly crept out as he dropped the phone and left for my room. I tried to push the thought away but it kept tugging at my mind. What could it be that Mr Smith overheard? And does it have anything to do with me?
Time to go on a little trip, I thought. I picked up my phone and decided to talk to beta Jack.
Wait ten missed calls!?
Going through my call log, I found out Alex called four times and beta Jack six. Did he hear about how I went wild on the rogues they sent to invade the Stone Heart Pack?
Or worse still, did something else happen? I think I need to open up to beta Jack about what happened that night before they get to hear it from someone else.
That would be so much worse. I paced around the room, different thoughts running through my head. I made up my mind to tell him but first, I need to hear from Alex.
I needed all the courage and energy I could get before talking to Beta Jack so I decided to call Alex first for some light conversation.
“Hey,” I whispered as he picked up the call.
“Hi,” a female voice answered from the other end.
Alex never mentioned having a girlfriend, who could this be?
“Are you a friend or relative?” the voice asked with urgency laced in her tone.
“Um, friend,” I said carefully, not knowing why she’s asking. Does she think Alex is cheating with me?
“You have to come to the teaching hospital by Boulevard Ave., your friend was in an accident.”
My heart skipped a beat in panic. Oh no. I hope nothing happens to him, I thought as I grabbed anything I could find and ran out of the room.
I got to the garage and mounted the motorcycle I took the last time and zoomed off.
I could make out the familiar skyline of the city in the distance and my heart pounded faster. ‘Alex, please be fine,’ I muttered as I accelerated the speed.
Something hit me from behind and I found myself falling off the bike with a thud, my body slamming into the cold hard asphalt.
Shit. What the heck happened?
A sharp pain shot through my head as I hit the ground, and then everything went dark.
