His silent roar
Alpha Kane's POV
The moon hung low, casting a gloomy glow over the ancient oak that stood at the heart of my territory. I watched the children playing under it like they had no care in the world.
The sight wasn't a pleasant one to me. Nothing about their cheerful giggles and voice made me feel soft. All I could think of was for the pups to get a bit older. As soon as they turn ten, they would be put through intense training.
My thoughts briefly wandered to when my father brought Cleopatra back to the back. They had seen her hiding in the forest, all battered and bloody.
My father loved her more than he loved me. Treated her like his real child. That made me bitter and to develop a scorching hatred for her. The hatred was second to the one I felt and still feel for Willaims whom my father always boasted about.
The tides changed in my favor when I found out what Cleopatra is capable of. Her untapped powers and abilities. I know I can have it all if I have her at my beck and call.
She became my weapon and most prized treasure.
I can't let my plans fail. I've sacrificed so much. My father had to die when he tried to stop me. And my worthless human mate? She wanted to turn Cleopatra against me. I had to kill her.
As long as I have Cleopatra on my side, I won't just stop at destroying Willaims and taking over his pack. I would go for the Alpha king next.
I have watched Willaims grow his pack in strength, their influence spreading like wildfire, even extending to the human cities. It was time I taught them all how deadly a quiet lion can be.
“Alpha,” Jack called, sounding a bit hesitant.
“What went wrong this time?” I growled, rolling my eyes.
“I have news,” he replied, his voice shaky.
“What is it?” I asked, my brow furrowed.
“The spy we sent to survey the Stone Heart Pack..has been caught,” he replied and braced himself for my outburst. He peered his eyes open when he didn't see any reactions from me.
I chuckled lightly and crossed my arm. “I didn't send him there so he could escape. I wanted to know how long it would take them to discover that there is a breach in their security and how fast they react to threats,” I said lazily.
“Good thing the man isn't one of ours but Alpha Dylan’s,” I drawled lightly and Jack seemed to relax a bit.
I may look like I'm naive but it's all an act. I know what I'm doing. Starting from when Theo approached me with the proposition. I could see right through him that his words were all lies but I needed him to make an attempt to take the life of Willaims. That did not end well.
Paying Alpha Dylan a visit two days ago wasn't my plan. Not after his betrayal but I had to make use of anything and everyone.
I used the guilt of his betrayal to trick him into sending one of his men to spy on the security from outside, to know how prepared they were for an attack. And just as I thought, Alpha Willaims is one formidable rival.
Now, Williams will think Dylan sent someone when in reality, it was all me. I threw my head back and laughed out so loudly that some of my pack members stopped what they were doing and stared in my direction, confusion laced in their stares.
“Any word from Cleopatra?” I asked, regaining control.
“Not yet. But she promised to get the book before the meeting of Alphas,” he replied.
A flicker of impatience ignited within me. Cleopatra is the key to everything. Why does she keep failing me? Has she gotten too comfortable being in that pack and warming Williams bed?
“She better not disappoint me this time,” I growled, my voice low and menacing.
Jack nodded, he knew better than to question me. I turned back to the playful pups, their innocence mocking my dark heart.
A plan was forming in my mind, a complex web of deceit and manipulation. It would require precision, ruthlessness, and a touch of madness. Good thing, I have all that it requires.
“Any word from the wolf hunters? I asked, after we'd stayed silent for a few minutes.
“They have retreated just as you instructed. They are getting ready, gathering all they need. Their leader said they are ready whenever we are,” he replied firmly.
“Good.”
“What about the message I sent to the leader of the rogues? Any word yet?”
“He said as long as you would let him do the honors of beheading Alpha Willaims, he's with you all the way.”
“Rat,” I muttered under my breath. Why would I let him do something that I have lived this long for?
The plan was almost set in motion. I've carefully turned three members of Williams pack into spies after he discovered the previous ones. They would do anything I asked for or risk the lives of their mates. Who wouldn't do anything to protect the only person for them?
Cleopatra is learning their weaknesses, their strengths and reporting their every move. I've formed a formidable alliance with rogues, hunters and even some Alphas. Our warriors are training harder than before, their bodies hardened in preparation for the invasion I have planned.
I would break Williams in ways unimaginable, destroy his pack, and go for the title of the Alpha king when I'm done. Dear sweet little Cleopatra would be my luna, and her powers at my command.
A cold, calculating smile spread across my face. The game was about to begin. The sweet scent of satisfaction was already intoxicating.
I glanced at the moon and the cold smile on my face intensified as I addressed her.
“You've been a silent, indifferent observer. Remain that way and witness the chaos I am about to unleash.”
I turned to Jack, my eyes gleaming with a predatory smile. “The time for shadows is over, dear beta Jack. It's time to step into the light.”
