“Mine to handle”
Cleopatra’s POV
I woke up, feeling refreshed as though I had slept for hours.
So I’m back here, and the mission continues? I wish this could be over soon so I can take that vacation I desperately ached for. The thought of sun-kissed beaches felt like a dream I might never grasp.
But then I remembered last night’s attack and picked up my phone to call Alpha Kane. Why had he lied to me about the Night Wolves being dead when they clearly weren’t? Was there something he wasn’t telling me?
Our conversation was brief—too brief, and I was left with an uneasy feeling gnawing at my gut. I tossed the phone aside and moved to the window, taking in a deep breath of the dripping afternoon air.
Maybe I should just let it go and let him handle it. I can’t suspect him now. He’s my Alpha and has been even before I discovered my real identity.
Another thing is my secret. He’s the only one that knew what happened back then. The fact that he hasn’t told anyone about it means that I can trust him with everything in me. Right?
The soft knock on the door had me scrambling for something to wear. I didn’t even realize I was naked till that knock came. Quickly, I grabbed Alpha Williams' shirt from the chair and threw it on before telling the person at the door to come in.
It was Kira. She stepped in, balancing a tray of food in her hands. The aroma hit me instantly, and my stomach growled in approval.
The look of concern on her face made my heart ache a little. “I’ve been praying to the moon goddess all week for your safe return, miss,” she whispered, squeezing my hand gently.
“She heard your prayers. I’m back, safe and sound,” I replied with a smile, hoping to ease her anxiety. She knew about my mission here. I’m still doubtful about her keeping it to herself till the end.
“The Alpha became a shadow of himself while you were missing. He never slept here, not even once and that’s even if he slept at all!” she said with a sad smile.
“He was?” I asked, taken aback. Well of course he would. He is now in a place I wanted him to be. He’s now mine to control. Isn’t that why he killed Alex? Out of jealousy?
Thinking about Alex caused a wave of anger to surge inside me and my expression hardened. I clenched my fists when I remembered his infectious smiles and the way he always made me feel. He didn’t deserve that.
“Miss? Are you alright?” Kira asked, her hand tugging on mine, bringing me back to the present.
“Oh…yes. I’m fine,” I whispered, though my heart still raged beneath the surface.
“I brought you lunch,” she said with a small smile, pushing the tray closer to me. “The Alpha requested that I prepare this and bring it up to the room.”
“Where is he?” I asked, out of curiosity.
Kira’s eyes flickered with a hint of uncertainty before she replied, “He’s in the training room, practicing.”
My brows furrowed. That was new. I’ve never seen him train, is there something big going on that I don’t know about?
“Training?” I questioned, hoping she might know what is going on.
Kira shrugged. “I don’t know, miss. He’s been there for hours.”
Intrigued and a little suspicious, I thanked Kira and dismissed her. As soon as she left, I hurriedly ate my food and headed out of the pack house towards the training room.
When I got there, the door was slightly open. I pushed it open cautiously, trying to be as discreet as possible.
The room was filled with different training materials that made me eager to hit some punching bags.
I saw him in the center of the room, clad with just shorts, his muscles rippling and flexing as he took swings at a punching bag. His movements were fluid and deadly. I could only imagine how badly injured the person receiving the punch would be.
I watched him for a few moments, my heart skipping at how ripped his muscles are. The sweats that tickled down his body only made it more sensual. His nipples were hardened and his jaws would clench from time to time as he trained.
I know he could sense that someone entered the room, but just chose to continue training.
As I stepped further into the room, Alpha Williams paused his training and turned fully to meet my gaze. He looked unsettled. Angry. What did he discuss with Renee?
“What is it, Cleopatra?” he asked, his voice low and hoarse. I should tread carefully not to piss him off further.
I took a deep breath and approached him slowly. “I heard you were training and decided to come and spar with you,” I replied.
We were now standing close to each other and I could feel his hot breath on my face. He studied me for a moment. “You want to train with me?” he asked, his tone flat.
“Well, what’s the worst thing that could happen? You’re the Alpha and I promise not to hit you too hard,” I replied, taunting him with a little smile and just as I thought, he returned the smile.
“I don’t hit women. Especially you,” he replied, drawing me in by grabbing my waist.
“Then you have to see me as a man,” I said, trying to distract myself from the feel of his bare skin on my body. He burst out in laughter as I said those words and I couldn’t help the little smile that kept pulling my lips wider.
He has the most adorable and yet dark eyes I’ve ever seen. How did someone like him turn out to be a ruthless and evil Alpha? Maybe in another world or another life, I won’t mind being stuck to his side forever as his better half.
But not this life. He has shed a lot of innocent blood and needs to go.
Alpha Williams' laughter abruptly faded, his dark eyes narrowing as they locked onto mine with an intensity that made my heart stutter.
“You really think you can handle that?” he asked, his grip on my waist tightening slightly, the playful atmosphere turning tense in an instant.
I smiled inwardly knowing that he doesn’t know who I really am and what I’m capable of.
Of course, I can handle him. Both in bed and especially, on a battlefield.
“You have no idea,”
