The Threat
Kane’s POV (cont.)
What the hell is going on now? What was that sound for? The loud bang came again and I quickly got dressed and headed to the door.
I took one look at the wrecked woman on the bed before peering the door open.
“What is going on?” I demanded as I opened the door to see beta Jack, gasping for air with a distraught look on his face.
“You need to see this Alpha,” he wheezed out and led me out of the corridor.
Too much for wanting to cool off. I planned on wrecking that girl over and over again tonight. Whatever it is he has to show me better be worth this distraction from my… needs.
He led me outside to where several pack members had gathered.
“Alright, what is going on here?” I growled and they all moved aside, pushing to a corner for me to walk through.
I saw one of our warriors laying in the pool of his own blood, a spear struck on his chest. Who dares enter my territory and do this?
“What is the meaning of this?” I roared angrily at no one in particular.
“Alpha, we found him like this, he was guarding the east point, when someone heard him screaming, followed by a loud thud,” my beta explained, his voice hoarse.
I bent closer as I noticed something stuck on the spear. I pulled it up, splattering blood all over.
There was a note.
My heart pounded in my ears as I unfolded the note, my hands suddenly damp. The words were scrawled in bold, red ink. Or is it blood?
I ran my hands over it and indeed, it was blood! Who would dare insult me this way?
My blood ran cold as I read the message.
“I know what you did. Watch your back.”
A cold fury ignited within me. This was a declaration of war. Someone was challenging my authority, daring to expose me. I would not stand for this! Who could it be? What if they get to Cleopatra?
No! Cleopatra is loyal to a fault. She would never believe it.
“How come nobody noticed anything odd?” I growled angrily at the crowd that gathered, throwing the spear back into the body of the dead guard.
Loud gasps echoed among my pack members because of my action and I whipped my head around viciously, daring anyone to utter another sound.
“Find out who did this,” I said to my beta. “I want every single detail, every possible lead, who could have used it, and most importantly, why.”
Jack nodded, his face etched with worry, but I’m sure it has more to do with how I threw the spear back at the dead warrior than the fact that there is a threat lurking somewhere.
“I’ll get right on it, Alpha.”
I turned on my heel and marched back inside. Someone is challenging me and the truth is, they got me. Ignoring the turmoil churning in my gut, I grabbed my phone and dialed Cleopatra’s number. It was switched.
When I said I’ll teach her a lesson, I wasn’t joking. I took out my other phone and dialed the night wolf Alpha’s number.
“You know how we had a deal. You won’t touch Cleopatra ever again and I gave you twenty slaves?” I began as soon as he picked up the call.
He was silent but I knew he was listening.
“I would like to make a little offer. Can you kidnap and torture her for three days?” I asked impatiently, pacing around my office like the world was against me.
He gave a dry laugh before letting out a heavy sigh.
“And what makes you think that I’m obligated to fulfill your childish demands?” He growled sarcastically.
I slammed my fist on the desk, my patience wearing thin. “You know what I can do to you, Night Wolf. You don’t want to test me. And let’s not forget, I know where your weaknesses lie and why you want Cleopatra gone. Imagine she finds out everything you did.”
There was a long pause on the other end. I could literally hear him weighing his options. And we both know they were not in his favor.
“Alright, Kane,” he finally said, his voice laced with reluctance. “Three days, then she’s yours.”
A smirk crept onto my face. “Good. I want her broken, scared, and begging for mercy by the time I get her ba….,”
It then struck me. I told Cleopatra the Night wolves were already wiped out. How do I get around this?
“On second thought, nevermind. You are supposed to be dead, remember?” I said and he muttered an ohh.
I ended the call and dialed the number of the next person best for the job. Rider, the Alpha of the rogues. He is another pawn in my game.
“Rider, we need to talk,” I said, my voice low and controlled.
“Well, if it ain’t Alpha Kane of Silverfang pack! One would think we are best friends with how frequent we talk these days,” he answered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “What do you want now?”
“I have a job for you,” I said, ignoring his snide remark. “I need someone to disappear for a while. And while you are at it, torture her till she breaks. I need to teach her a lesson.”
“And who might that be?” Rider asked, amusement evident in his voice.
“Cleopatra,” I replied, my voice hard.
“You’re serious?”
I ignored his question and continued. “I need her gone for three days. No one must find her until I arrange the best rescue stage. One more thing, make sure she doesn’t see you or suspect that you are involved.”
Cleopatra knows that Rider is involved in this mission to destroy Williams. Seeing him would make her suspect that something is up.
“And what’s in it for me?” Rider asked, his voice now devoid of amusement.
“What do you want?” I growled.
There was a long pause on the other end then he chuckled. “The same thing I’ve wanted all these while.”
Sly bastard. He wants to be the one to kill Williams and parade with his head all over.
“Deal,” I replied, although I knew that would never happen. I will never allow it. “I’ll contact you later with the details and I don’t want anyone finding out about this. Not even my beta,” I said dismissively.
“Hold on a second,” he said suddenly. “Are you giving her to me willingly to teach her a lesson for killing my men?” he asked, his voice rising slightly.
“What are you talking about?” I demanded curiously.
“She didn’t tell you that she went berserk and killed almost all my men? One managed to escape, barely alive,” he replied, I could sense the anger in his voice.
“I’ll leave her to you then,” I said coldly.
I ended the call, feeling a surge of anger. What has she done? Is she finally on Williams’ side? Why didn’t she report this? She will have to pay for ruining my perfect invasion plan!
The rustle by the door made my ears perk up suddenly, my senses at alert.
“How long have you been standing there?” I growled.
