What is she hiding?
Cleopatra's POV
“Cleopatra!”
The voice was Familiar, but it seemed distant. The woman with the emerald eyes still pulled me further into the forest.
When I saw her looming over me in the bathroom, fear gripped me. How could she be there? Who is she and what does she want? But when she took my hands, I followed her.
For some reason, I wasn't afraid of her. She looked familiar. Like a face I've seen so many times. How is that possible? I would definitely recognize her if I had seen her before now. Her eyes glowed in the most mythical way.
“Cleopatra!”
The voice called out again in panic and I turned my head to the direction of the voice. I shut my eyes as soon as it flew open, they felt heavy. I forced it back open as I felt a gentle tug and saw Alpha Williams, looking down at me, his face etched with worry.
“What happened?” I croaked, my voice barely a whisper.
“That is exactly what I should be asking you,” Alpha Williams said. “I walked into the bathroom to find you laying in here covered with blood, your head was bent as if it's been snapped. What happened, Cleopatra?”
The confusion in his eyes mirrored the one in my mind. As I was about to dismiss it, I remembered!
“I-I was attacked by two lone wolves on my way back through the forest,” I croaked out, my throat patched.
“Attacked? Two lone wolves did this to you?” He asked, his voice laced with disbelief.
“I was out of it. I guess I was drunk or something but I couldn't get my wolf to fight back. I don't understand why that happened. But this is not just my blood, it's more of theirs. I killed them,” I replied.
He looked at me with worry and a hint of regret in his eyes. He didn't say anything else or ask any more questions. Does he know what's going on with me?
“Clean yourself up and come join me for dinner. You must be very hungry.” He said and quietly left the bathroom.
Why is he acting weird? And why do I feel like I'm forgetting something that is very important?

Williams’ POV
I left the room, my mind racing. Two lone wolves attacking Cleopatra? That didn't add up. How could she let mere lone wolves do that to her?
I've seen her fight. I've seen her stance. She is stronger than the average warriors in my pack. What am I even saying? She is as strong as Renee! So what happened?
Could it be the awakening? I needed to talk to Eugene. I knew he would know what to make of this situation.
“Eugene!” I called out as I entered his office. He looked up from his book, his eyes wide with surprise. “ Alpha, what brings you here?”
“Cleopatra was attacked by two lone wolves today,” I said, my voice serious.
“Oh, is she OK? Do you need me to examine her?” He asked, trying to get up.
“She said that while being threatened, her wolf was unresponsive.”
Eugene's eyes narrowed in concentration. “Unresponsive? That's strange. Even the weakest wolf would fight back when it senses danger.”
“I know,” I replied. “I think there's something more going on with her.”
“Cases like this are rare. But it can only happen if your wolf is being poisoned.” Eugene said slowly.
My heart slightly pounded. Poisoned?
“How is that even possible? I doubt she's the kind of person that would do that to herself,” I said.
“I don't know how to put this. But whatever it is, could be killing her wolf slowly and here's the problem. Cleopatra would run mad with hunger for power and she could be a lethal enemy if she's left with only the white wolf. Both of them complete her, without one is like a death sentence to people around her.” He explained.
“Do you think she's doing this to herself? She could be pretending about not being aware of all these,” I speculated, suspicion creeping in on me.
“I doubt that. I don't think she's aware of the awakening or that she has two wolves,” Eugene said like he knew Cleopatra personally.
Then who is poisoning her?
“What can we do?” I asked.
“I need to carry out more research on this,” Eugene said. “But before then, I think I might have a vial that could help her cope better with the awakening of her second wolf.”
Hope flared within me.
“Do whatever it takes,” I said.” Just make sure you find out what the problem really is.
I left Eugene's office, with the bottle in my hand. My mind, filled with thoughts of Cleopatra. How come she's a Night Wolf? Is Alpha Kane not aware or could he be hiding something?
Later that evening as I sat down, waiting for her to come down for dinner, I wondered how bad it would be if I told her about the wolves. And why is she not doing anything to find out how she's a Night Wolf and who her parents are? I wondered.
I watched her as she gracefully made her way towards me in the dining room. The way she looked delicate in my shirt, her hair flowing all over shoulders like a beautiful mess made me groan.
She doesn't look like someone who almost died, fighting. If for anything, she looked like she had been resting all morning. How does she do that? How does she manage to hide her exhaustion?
What else could be hiding so perfectly well?
Cleopatra took a seat opposite where I was seated and clapped her hands together, giggling when she saw the food in front of her. How do I give her this vial?
“Come sit here Cleopatra,” I ordered, pointing at a seat next to mine. She hesitated, a flicker of contemplation crossing her features. I know I sounded needy, like I want her close to me, but it's not entirely for myself.
She smiled. The type that made my heart race and my head spin.
I watched her carefully, my eyes following her every move as she made her way towards me. She leaned closer to me and whispered in my ears. “You can't seem to get enough of me, can you?”
She was teasing me. Taunting me. But I don't mind it. I groaned as she placed a hand over my chest but pulled it away as quickly as she started and took a seat.
Why did I get excited all of a sudden?
I took control of my body and willed myself to concentrate on the issue at hand.
“I want to ask you something, Cleopatra?” I said suddenly, and she turned to look at me.
“What is it?” She asked.
“Who is Shadow? And what mission do you need to get done at all cost?” I demanded with a serious voice and she flinched.
What is she really hiding behind all these alluring facades?
