Searching for Cleopatra
Williams’ POV (cont.)
How is she gone? Where did she go? Is she alright? Why didn't anyone spot her leaving? Is she being kidnapped like the last time?
All these thoughts clouded my head as I stormed towards the east wing, leaving the man to one of my warriors.
“Get some men and comb through the pack and outside. Make sure you find Cleopatra and bring her to me,” I barked at Renee.
I made it into her room but it was empty. There were no traces of her being forcefully taken. I took out my phone and dialed her number. I could hear the ringtone and vibration in the bathroom and dashed inside. Could it be that she's in the bath and they didn't see her?
I threw the door open and it was empty. Her phone was on the cabinet. The scene looked like she was having a bath and then disappeared.
“When did you notice she was gone?” I asked the maid, my tone coming out cold and confused.
“I-Alpha I closed my eyes for just a split second and then she was gone when I opened them. She was…she was in the bathroom and then she's gone,” the maid stammered, her voice shaky.
“It was my fault…why did I close..close my eyes,” she whispered, her voice very low amidst her cries.
I didn't have the time to console someone or reassure them it wasn't their fault. If she was tired, she could have swapped with another maid and gone to sleep.
“I was very clear when I said you shouldn't take your eyes off her. Why didn't you ask for someone else to take over if you were tired?” I asked, ignoring her whimpers and tears.
“I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Alpha. I didn't know when I closed my eyes,” she whispered. I looked in her direction and sighed. I saw the fatigue in her eyes and motioned for her to go.
“Get some sleep. We will find her,” I muttered. She nodded in relief and exited the room.
I sat on the bed and raked a hand through my hair in frustration. “Where are you Cleopatra?” I asked no one in particular. I got up and looked out through the window, letting the fresh air fill my lungs and caress my face.
I whipped my head to a direction when something caught my eyes. Could that be Cleopatra? My heart pounded in my chest as I strained my eyes to see the figure hunched at the far end of the balcony.
Without hesitation, I climbed out of the window and carefully made my way across the wall to the balcony. Anticipation and hope coursed through my veins as I reached the edge of the balcony and climbed in.
Peering over the edge, I could make out Cleopatra's figure more clearly. She was sitting on the ledge, her legs dangling over the side.
She had this distant look in her eyes that made my heart freeze. What is going on in her head? And why is she sitting there like she's lost her mind.
I had to think fast.
“Cleopatra?” I called, my voice hoarse with fear and urgency. My hands reached out instinctively, but she was out of my reach.
How did she get here in the first place? Did she sleep walk?
She started humming a tune. That threw me off. What the fuck is she doing? All of a sudden it felt like a scene out of a horror movie, like she was possessed or something.
“Cleopatra!” I shouted again, my voice hoarse, “look at me Cleopatra,” I said and didn't get any reaction from her. She continued humming the tune that sounded ancient.
I looked down and saw my men and Beta all staring up at the balcony. They placed something that looked like a trampoline under just in case she jumps.
She looked so out of it like she is not aware of whatever that is happening right now.
I quietly made it close enough to her. The balcony was quite small so I had to be careful not to mistakenly push her off the ledge.
I finally got in and grabbed her. Relief flooded through me as my hands touched her.
Her body was cold and stiff like she had been there all through the night.
“Hey hey, what's wrong? Why are you here?” I asked, trying to control the emotions flooding through me all at once.
She stopped humming the tune and stared into my eyes. I saw the confusion and fear as she came to.
“Alpha Williams?” She asked, surprised. Fear replaced the look of confusion when she noticed where we were.
“What's happening?” She asked in a panicked voice, “why are we here?”
Why is she asking me that, when I should be the one asking.
“I can't explain right now but we have to get off the balcony, OK?” She looked around nervously, her nails clawing at my shirt.
“Do you understand? Let's get off here first, then we can talk. Can you do that?,” I asked and squeezed her shoulders. She nodded and we started climbing over to get to her window.
We managed to get inside, and I closed the window behind us. A wave of relief coursed through me and I breathed out loud.
Cleopatra was shivering, her eyes wide with confusion. Could it be the cold? She had just a tiny satin nightgown on. I pulled her into a tight embrace, trying to comfort her.
“It's okay, I got you,” I whispered, stroking her hair. She clung to me, her body shaking uncontrollably.
After a few moments, her trembling began to subside. I pulled back slightly, looking into her eyes. “Can you remember what happened? Why were you on the balcony?”
Her eyes were filled with confusion and fear. “I-I don't know. I don't remember. One moment I was in the bathroom, and the next thing I knew, you were calling out to me at the balcony. It's like…like a complete blackout.”
I nodded, trying to remain calm and process what she was saying. This rules out sleepwalking. She was wide awake in the bathroom and then found herself in the balcony.
Something was definitely wrong. And I could bet my name that it has something to do with her awakening.
“Don't worry, we'll figure it out,” I assured her, squeezing her hand. “For now, you need to get some rest.”
Just as I was leading her to the bed, a sharp knock came on the door and it was thrown open.
Renee came in panting like she had just ran a marathon.
“Alpha Williams,” she called and paused for some air, “You need to see this!”
