His Weakness
Cleopatra's POV
My heart pounded frantically in my chest as Alpha Kane's eyes remained glued to mine. I felt a chill run down my spine as he stepped closer.
“What?” I asked, my eyes wide with confusion and fear.
“You do know I own you right?” He repeated and stopped inches away from me. “I am your Alpha after all and you swore allegiance to me, isn't that so?” he asked amidst a humorless chuckle.
I stood, frozen at my spot. His eyes raked over me and his hands reached out for my shoulders. “Are you ok?” He asked, his expression mixed with a bit of mockery.
“Huh?” I asked, still confused at what just happened. Why was it so intense earlier? I thought he was going to…
“You thought I was going to try something funny with you?” He demanded, his voice filled with sarcasm.
“No-not at all…I,”
“You shouldn't think that. Except you want me to,” he whispered, cutting me off, his voice hoarse and intense.
“No…no.. I don't want that,” I replied, the situation getting more awkward than it was already. Why did he bring me here then? To tell me he owns me?
“Well,” he drawled, “time will tell but that's by the way. I want to make sure you're prepared for the meeting and to disclose the newest upgrade of the plan to you,” he said and turned away from me towards the window.
I let out a long breath. That was way beyond weird.
“I'm listening, Alpha,” I managed to say, after steadying myself.
Alpha Kane turned from the window and faced me, his expression serious. “The Alpha King has decided to hold a grand feast after the meeting to celebrate Williams’ appointment,” he said.
Appointment? How come I didn't know about this?
“What appointment?” I asked curiously.
“If tomorrow goes as they planned, Alpha Williams of Stone Heart Pack will become one of the appointed overseers. Our pack will fall under his jurisdiction, now you know what that means,” he explained. I could literally feel the hatred and bitterness in his voice.
I couldn't blame him though. Alpha Williams killed his mate. And now, he has killed my Alex. It is only right that he pays for it, with his own life.
“Oh-that’s unexpected. We can't let that happen. And what's the newest upgrade to the plan?” I asked, trying to keep my voice calm.
Alpha Kane paused for a moment as if weighing his words carefully. “We've managed to infiltrate the Alpha King's inner circle,” he said. “Alpha Dylan planted a mole who will sneak the rogues in quietly so that they will attack from the inside. The idea is to cause chaos and hopefully, someone dies in the process,” he finished with an evil glint in his eyes.
“Who?” I asked although I knew who he would mention.
“The Alpha King,” he said coldly.
Wait what? The Alpha King? Not Alpha Williams?
“How does that help us?” I asked, suddenly confused.
“Well for one, Williams would lose the Alpha King's protection. And guess the next in line since the Alpha King doesn't have an heir?” He asked with a creepy smile on his face.
Alpha Dennis??! God, I hate that man!
He's notoriously known for kidnapping any woman that he fancies. He's a sour sight to every woman, but somehow, Alpha Dennis is one of the closest people to my Alpha.
I wonder why?
“Alpha Dennis?” I asked, hoping my suspicions were wrong.
“Correct!” He declared excitedly, confirming my fears. Which woman would be safe in a realm ruled by an animal?
“So, what's my role in all this?” I asked, pushing the thoughts of Alpha Dennis as the Alpha King away from my mind. That will be handled when we get to that point.
“Make sure you attend the meeting with Williams,” he replied. “ Williams is quick to catch up on invasions. Your job is to distract him, stall for time until the rogues invade. The appointment must not happen, do you understand?” He demanded.
That wasn't a question for debate. “I understand,” I said. “I'll do my best.”
How am I supposed to convince Alpha Williams to take me into a meeting hall that's exclusively meant for Alphas? The Betas are not even allowed to go in with them and he wants me to find my way in?
What the fuck am I supposed to do?
Alpha Kane nodded with a satisfied smile. “Of course you should. That's what you were trained for,” he replied, his eyes sweeping over my body one more time before holding a hand up dismissively. “Now, run along and get to work.”
“OK, Alpha Kane,” I said firmly and turned to leave, but his voice stopped me.
“And Cleopatra?” He said and I stopped walking to look at him. “Don't disappoint me this time,” he growled, his voice low and I nodded.
The door clicked shut behind me, the echo of Alpha Kane's final words still replaying in my mind. I've never disappointed him in any mission.
Except for this particular one.
Alpha Kane's plan was not only just a scheme, it was ruthless. Planning the assaination of the Alpha king??! This could change everything.
And the thoughts of Alpha Dennis as the potential new Alpha king sent shivers through me. He's an unbearable monster to women. But for the main problem, how would I even manage to convince Alpha Williams to take me in with him?
My mind was clouded with so many thoughts that I didn't really pay attention to where I was headed. Only when my forehead hit something hard and soft at the same time did I stop walking.
“Aw,” I muttered and looked up. It was Beta Jack. Somehow seeing him, brought back all the questions I had about Alex.
“Cleopatra,” Beta Jack called, his eyes full of concern. “Are you alright?”
“I'm fine. Just a lot on my plate. I had a brief meeting with Alpha Kane,” I replied, trying to keep my tone light.
His gaze lingered on me and then he sighed. “Did he tell you about the assassination of the Alpha King?” He whispered to my ears and I nodded.
“I swear to do everything in my power to stop this,” he said, catching me off guard. He wasn't in support too? But he continued, his voice lower than it was earlier.
“I am loyal to the Silverfang Pack but I would not be part of any mad plan to put a monster on the seat! Do you know what that means?” he barked in a hushed tone.
Hearing him say that got me all excited. “What's your plan?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.
He looked me dead in the eye with a determined gaze. “I hate Alpha Williams for all he stands for but the Alpha King cannot die tomorrow,” he said and I nodded in unison.
We discussed further and I turned to leave when we were done. “Beta Jack?” I called, as soon as he started walking away. “Any ideas on how to find my way inside the hall for the meeting with Alpha Williams?” I asked. My mind was clouded with thoughts of Alex and I couldn't think straight.
He turned to me and smiled mischievously. “Do what you've been doing all along Cleopatra, it's simple. You're his seductress, remember?” And with that he walked away.
A satisfied smile crept into my face as it dawned on me. I have become Alpha Williams' weakness.
