Caught in her Web

Williams's POV

How could she have this much effect on me when she's not even my mate? The question echoed in my mind. It was an absurd thought but it was there.

The moment I saw her, dressed like that, it did things to my body, to my senses. I felt like peeling off that provocative outfit that hugged her body in such an alluring manner.

I quickly forgot I was going to capture and interrogate Theo.

I've been a little scared since she had that vision. Not because she could kill me. The fact that she is the only remnant of a lineage thought extinct. The fact that she is more powerful and could bend any mind to her will.

Is that what she's doing to me? Is that why I find myself in her arms even after deciding to avoid her? I was losing control, and it terrified me.

I should send her back to her pack, I thought, trying to regain control. Could it be they sent her… No, that can't be.

She hasn't awakened and she could control my body like this? What will happen when she discovers how powerful she is? Should I keep her closer? No! Stop it Williams, I commanded myself, keeping my emotions at bay.

I hesitated before breaking the silence with my words. The gasp that escaped her lips felt like a chunk of flesh was just pulled out of my body.

I have to get her out of my pack. And most importantly, my life. The decision was made, but a part of me resisted.

I ignored her confused stare and opened the door. Renee got in, the look on her face told me she knew we just had sex.

Oh well. This is the last time something like this will ever happen, I swore silently.

“Alpha,” she began, “I'm very certain Cleopatra has something up her sleeves,” she said, wasting no time to state her claims.

I watched Cleopatra move closer, the look on her face tugged at my heart but I won't cave in.

“Care to explain?” I asked, sounding distant.

“I was planning to anyway,” she retorted, the broken look on her face earlier was quickly masked with a cold gaze.

She filled us in on her vision, not missing a beat and not sparing me a glance.

“Why didn't you say this earlier?” I demanded suspiciously, “Were you trying to cover for Theo? Do you have any idea that I could have killed an innocent man?” I yelled, sounding colder than I intended.

She didn't flinch, neither did the cold distant look in her eyes flicker.

“Rather late than sorry, right?” She said sarcastically and stormed out of my office. I raked a hand through my disheveled hair and exchanged glances with Renee.

Cleopatra stopped a few inches to the door, her taunting soft voice replaced with a sharp coldness like she suddenly harbors so much hatred for me.

“For the records,” she whispered, not turning around to look at me, “I was planning on leaving anyway. I have no intentions of ending up dead like your Luna,” she hissed with so much venom and stormed off.

“Let her be,” I said to Renee as she tried going after Cleopatra. Her words cut through my chest like I was just stabbed in the most cruel way.

We bursted the door open. The only light that illuminated the room was from the hallway which reflected our shadows as we kicked the door open.

Theo emerged out of the shadows and stepped outside. I clenched my fist, trying to hold my wolf back when I saw the grim look on his face.

The Bastard.

“To what do I owe this unpleasant surprise,” he drawled.

“A mere human?” I growled out, “You think you could destroy my pack? How dare you?” I thundered.

He must have caught on. His breath came out as ragged gasps as he eyed me. He must be feeling like a trapped animal. The scent of fear hung heavy in the air, a stark contrast to the usual aura he exuded.

Encircled by my warriors, his expressions were desperate. His eyes, wild with terror and a flicker of something akin to madness darted from one face to another.

“Monster! Monster!!” He screamed at me, “You killed her! You fucking killed Elena. Even in death, I would still hunt you!”

Hearing my dead mate’s name from out of his mouth sent waves of anger coursing through my veins.

Then, with a feral scream, he jumped. The air was filled with the crack of bones and the thud of a body. He tried escaping me by jumping, but he ended up jumping into the arms of death.

A sharp cry tore from his throat as his head connected brutally with the tiled floor. We rushed downstairs and he lay there, a broken, writhing form, in the pool of his blood.

The sight looked familiar.

His voice was a hoarse whisper, laced with venom as he tried to say something. “I.. I loved her but you…you took her away from me, you monster” he stammered and went still. His lifeless face told a twisted tale of love, betrayal and madness.

He loved my mate? How pathetic!

The hallway was suffocating as I climbed up the stairs, my mind, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. The mention of my dead mate reopened a wound I thought was healed.

I felt weak. Powerless. I haven’t been able to capture her killer. No matter how hard I search, it seems as if the universe doesn’t want me to have my revenge. Maybe I really did kill her.

I pushed open the door to Cleopatra’s room, needing some sort of distraction from this feeling welling up inside of me. Why am I even back here? Can’t I find another means of distracting myself?

But the room was empty, no sign of her. A chill ran down my spine. Where could she have gone? What if she was kidnapped again? I marched further into the room, ready to call out a search party. The kidnapper wouldn’t have gotten far, but how did they slip past us?

And why are her items missing?
My eyes caught something on the bed. A note.

The realization hit me like a ton of bricks when it all settled in. She was really gone. And this time, maybe for good.
