Searching for Cleopatra
Williams’ POV
I expected something chaotic to happen, but not to this extent. I thought it would be a minor invasion attempt by rogues.
But to think that the bloodsuckers are back? How? What or who set them free? It can only be done by a powerful force and I heard stories that the only people capable of doing that were no more. The white wolves.
I briefly turned to look at Cleopatra. Could she have? No! Why would she? How could she when she doesn’t even know that she has a white wolf? I grabbed her arm and pulled her behind me.
“I can handle myself, Alpha,” she said with a grin.
“I know you can. Just watch my back and I’ll watch yours, good enough?” I asked, hoping she wouldn't be stubborn and she nodded. Last thing I want is anything happening to her.
Good thing I had Renee arrange for the realm warriors. How did they even get here in the first place? Why aren’t they afraid of sunlight?
The battle broke out and I fought mercilessly. I have someone to protect. I have something to fight for. No way am I letting these blood suckers take it away.
But they did and I couldn’t do shit!
*****
It’s been almost a week, and still, there was no sign of Cleopatra. “Where on earth are you,” I muttered to myself as I stared out of my office window.
The weight of her disappearance was crushing me. I felt like I had failed her, failed to protect another woman I cared about.
I looked a mess and I felt like a mess. The thoughts of anything bad happening to Cleopatra scared me. What if they bite her? What if she becomes one of them?
I shook my head forcefully and slammed my fist on the table. It came crashing down with a tud. We’ve combed the territory and beyond, even places vampires could be hiding but no signs of either her or them.
The strange thing about this whole attack was that no one was killed, like they planned to ruffle us up. And what do they want with Cleopatra? Did they just vanish with her?
Why did I let Kane distract me from protecting her? If only I didn’t let my pride get in the way, she might, no. She would still be here.
“Williams,” I heard Renee call. “You need to rest and face important tasks. There are things in the hotel that need your urgent attention, you cannot keep…,”
“Silence, Renee. I don’t want to hear it. Any news from the team we sent to the north?” I asked and she whispered an inaudible no.
“I shouldn’t have let go of her hands,” I muttered, staring down at my own large hands.
“It’s not your fault, Alpha. And we will find her, she’s a fighter, remember?” She consoled, her voice laced with worry. But I’m pretty sure that the worry was for me and not for Cleopatra.
“Attend to the matters regarding the hotel, Renee. You are my beta after all,” and with that I dismissed her.
I spent the next few days holed up in my office, poring over maps and reports. Examining activity reports around caves. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was missing something, a clue that would lead me to Cleopatra.
Finally, I decided to take a break. I needed to clear my head and think about my pack. I’m now an overseer, I can’t keep dumping responsibilities on Renee.
I ordered a hot bath, and as I soaked in the warm water, I tried to relax, to ease up my tensed muscles but my mind kept wandering back to Cleopatra.
After my bath, I dressed in a suit and headed downstairs. I had a meeting scheduled at the hotel to discuss the threats from the wolf hunters. Recent reports show that they attacked a small clan.
Speaking of attacks, why haven't the vampires attacked again? We’ve strengthened our parameters. Our warriors train almost everyday, in preparation for any attack but nothing.
So far, it’s like they went back into hiding, like they never attacked in the first place but they did and they took Cleopatra with them.
The Alpha king also has men combing through the forests and caves in search of her as it happened in his territory.
Alpha Kane blames me for it and he is right. I should have let her go with her Alpha when he demanded for her hand. If I had let her go then, she might still be here.
Why did I even resist?
I made it downstairs and saw Renee already waiting in front of the car. She was immersed in her phone that she didn’t notice when I got in but the sound of the door being slammed jerked her up.
She got in next to me and put her phone away. “How are you feeling, Williams?” She asked, looking up at me with a sad and concerned expression on her face.
“How do I look?” I asked with a dry chuckle.
“You look a mess. You have bags under your eyes like you haven’t slept a wink all week,” she said.
“And that’s exactly how I feel,” I replied and tapped the driver to start the car. Before long the hotel was in view. I stepped out of the car and went straight into the room for the meeting, avoiding the greetings being thrown at me.
The meeting went well. Our human associates negotiated to handle it themselves with their legal team. Heaven knows that I would have sent my men after them and they would be dead in no time.
Our human associates decided to lock them up for constant trespassing on private properties, illegal poaching and some other stuff they made up.
The mayor gave me his word that I will not hear from the wolf hunters for a long long time and I’m hoping for their sakes I don’t.
“Mr Williams,” I heard a voice call out after the meeting and cringed at the sound. I know who that is.
I debated on walking away and pretending not to have heard the call but before I could make up my mind, she ran up to me. The mayor’s representative, with her infuriating smile.
“I haven’t seen you in a while,” she drawled, flaunting her plump breasts in a way that made me want to gag.
“Um, what’s your name again?” I asked, pinching my eyebrows.
“It’s Hannah, and I know that you know my name, Mr Williams,” she retorted, still puffing her chest like she was sampling her breast.
“Okay? What kind of attention are you seeking,” I asked, giving her cold stares. I knew that would hurt her ego. She soon stormed her feet and left angrily.
“Mr Williams! Boss!” Who is it this time, I thought and rolled my eyes. I turned towards the voice and saw one of the boys Cleopatra made me hire, smiling sheepishly.
For fuck sake I don’t have time for all these.
“Oh, your wife didn’t come in? I saw her few minutes ago at the grocery store blocks away,” he said, still smiling.
I froze. Wait, my wife? Cleopatra?!
