New Phase 5
Nevertheless, he took them to the cinema auditorium. Now, Jude Addy who was resting by the corner after his work of cleaning the hall was excited when he saw the family who were walking in. He did not recognize Mr. Phil Anderson as the comrade he shared the back seat with the first day that he arrived at the island, but he was quickly attracted to Daniel, who was holding his small piano. Now, he did not know how to welcome the team to avoid offending the Officer but on impulse, he walked up to them and greeted them casually before he fixed his gaze on Daniel.
His colleagues, who were familiar with the guests, welcomed them too but were not as excited as Jude Addy. Meanwhile, Mr. Phil Anderson who could not recognize Jude Addy again because it was already dark when they brought him to the Tourist Center that Friday night was able to recognize him due to his special affinity with the piano based on the discussion he had with Denise. That was his first test by Mr. Phil Anderson before he could decide whether he would hire him as his son’s private teacher or not.
“Make yourself comfortable, please.”
The Security officer said as he directed them to the pews.
“Okay, Officer. Thank you.”
They took their seats comfortably, but Jude’s eye could not leave Daniel and his piano then, he dared to strike a conversation with Daniel as though he was the only person in the group.
“How are you, boy?”
Daniel, who was not free with strangers, looked at the father for approval before he could respond. When he saw the smile on his face, he turned to Jude, who was standing beside him, and responded coldly.
“I’m fine, thank you. And you?”
“I am fine. Thank you. Can you play the piano?”
Daniel gave him a superficial nod and set out to unzip his piano bag. The Security Officer excused himself.
“Mr. Anderson, I will be back shortly.”
“It is all right, officer. Thank you.”
Mr. Anderson responded. Now, Jude Addy returned to his seat to join his colleague, Patrick, and the rest who were watching the guests from the foyer of the cinema auditorium. He remembered himself as a kid in the Sunday School and smiled as he fought back the tears that were gathering in his eyes.
“Let us get to the stage, Daniel.”
Olivia announced after Daniel had removed his piano keyboard from the bag. She stood up at once and Daniel followed suit holding his stuff. They got to the stage and Daniel sat on the available seat, which was too high for him. Jude, who had been watching them from the foyer, got to the stage with the speed of lightening and adjusted the seat to suite Daniel’s size. The gesture marveled the adults and Daniel who had been withdrawn from him was pleased. Then, he looked at him and muttered.
“Thank you, Sir.”
Jude smiled and responded.
“It is my pleasure.”
Then, Olivia who was delighted appreciated him too.
“Thank you.”
“You are welcome, ma’am.”
“What is your name?”
“My name is Jude, ma’am.”
“All right, Jude, Thank you. Don’t go too far. You will work with me.”
“It is noted, ma’am.”
Apart from Mr. Phil Anderson and Mr. Denise Bailey, no other person knew that Phil was conducting an interview on Jude. He chatted with his wife while they watched them on the stage. Soon, Daniel began to make music of the basic that he was familiar with while Jude who was standing by the side looked on in admiration.
At Louis Bailey’s Apartment.
Mr. Louis Bailey who could not believe his eyes when he lifted his eye up from his system to see his brother and friend whom he had missed so much was transfixed by the shock he got. Now, Denise walked in and shut the door, which bared the security guard against seeing what he would do to Louis. When he noticed that Denise had shut the door, he wondered why he did that. Then, he walked up to Louis and roared.
“Why are you not picking my calls, Louis?”
Before Louis could recover from the shock of seeing him and processing his question. He got more shock than he envisaged.
(Slap)
(Slap)
The domineering aura of Denise mesmerized Louis, who could not get up from his seat. Then, Denise continued.
“You disappointed me on my wedding day and instead of apologizing, you behaved as though nothing happened and when I gave you a call, you ignored it.”
Mr. Denise Bailey wanted to continue, but stopped when he saw the tears that were flowing freely down Louis’s cheek, which he almost became infested with. To avoid further attack on his brother, he angrily walked out of the room and met Tony hanging around the bedroom door. However, Denise was not bothered with whether he noticed what happened or not as he walked back to the parlor to join Mr. Nicholas Fields.
He was aware of what Denise was capable of doing, and that was why he volunteered to come with him. Though, Denise needed his presence, but that would not stop him from stopping the disunity which Louis was trying to brood in the Bailey’s family. He gave Denise a searching look, but could not tell what really happened. Then, Denise picked up the remote control from the table and turned on the television before he sat down.
Likewise, Mr. Louis Bailey, who was happy to see his brother, was not mindful of the slaps. He took it with the attitude of ‘I deserve it’. After all, Denise was not part of his folly. He dried his tears and gave his chef a call. When he picked, he instructed.
“Prepare breakfast for my brother.”
“It is noted, boss. But they are two.”
Mr. Louis Bailey’s heart skipped as he wondered whether he came with Olivia to rub it on his face. Then he asked forthwith.
“Who is the second person?”
“I have not seen him before.”
He breathed freely when he discovered that the guest was not Olivia. He concluded that it must be Phil or Mr. Fields.
”It is okay. Prepare for three.”
“All right, boss.”
He rushed to the bathroom and freshened up before he joined them in the seating room.
“Oh! Mr. Fields. Good morning. Welcome to my humble home.”
“Good morning, Louis. It had been a while.”
Mr. Fields responded as he read his countenance, which was not too good, even though he managed to smile.
“Yes. How is your family?”
“My family is good. And how is work?”
“My work is fine. Good to see you.”
He took his seat on the couch beside them, while they watched the television in silence as they waited for the breakfast. After a few minutes, the chef announced.
“Boss, the breakfast is ready.”
“It is all right. You can leave.”
The chef left and shut the door behind him. Now, Louis looked at his guests who seemed uninterested in his breakfast, especially Denise, his brother. He fixed his eyes on the television too, not knowing what to do. Then, Mr. Fields spoke.
“Louis.”
He was startled when he heard his name, but he responded coldly and adjusted.
“Yes, Mr. Fields.”
“I hope you can guess why we are here?”
Now, Denise had taken off his eyes from the television and fixed them on Louis, who was looking at Mr. Fields. He waited for Louis response, but none came, instead he gazed into the space as one who had lost his mind. Denise became worried with his look and called out.
“Louis.”
He jolted up and smiled faintly. Now, Denise, who felt that his brother may relapse into an attack, got up from his seat and sat beside him on the armrest of his chair. Then, he inquired.
“Louis, are you all right? Talk to me.”
He crossed his left hand on his shoulder and drew him closer to his chest while Mr. Fields looked on.
“What is the matter with you, Louis? Are you ill?”
Now, Louis’s tears were flowing freely as he sobbed on his brother’s chest. The worried Mr. Fields walked to the dining table and got a glass of water for him, which opened another wound. The water reminded him of the first day he met Olivia at the campus and how he handed a bottle of water to her.
“Take. I think you need it.”
He shook his head in rejection and rested on his brother’s chest and sobbed profusely. Denise collected the glass of water from Mr. Fields and forced him to take it.
“Louis, please take.”
He did not give him the opportunity to reject it as he placed the glass of water on his lips and made him to take it. Thereafter, he handed the glass cup back to Mr. Fields, who kept it on the center table. He looked at Denise, who was as lost as he was. Then, the door opened and Dr. Kadon Quain walked in briskly, which made them to conclude that Mr. Louis Bailey was ill and that he had given the doctor a call before they came.
