New Phase 14
“I am certain that she actually wished to say ‘see you at home’.”
Mr. Arthur Bailey explained as he turned on his ignition and drove off, leaving the astounded Zoey looking at them. Now, one of Nichole’s haters who saw her when she got into the car burst into raucous laughter and jested.
“Her ugly duckling had picked her.”
Now, Mrs. Zoey Bailey, who had heard rumors of Nichole marrying an ugly old duckling which was part of what she wanted to discuss with her, turned around and looked at the nurse who just spoke and mumbled with glee.
“Ugly duckling indeed.”
For reasons which she could not explain, she became elated with her discovery and began to walk to the car park. Though, they were members of the same family, Mr. Arthur Bailey, who was the youngest family head, had distinguished himself from other family heads morally and financially. He had also impacted that on his children.
“Wow! Nichole, is still a member of the Bailey’s family. I am happy for her.”
Then, she got into her car and drove off while feeling so euphoric over her discovery. Then, the picture of Denise at the Family Head's meeting last time as he vehemently stood his ground on his mother’s matter flashed through her mind. (Our Patriarch, don’t put my mother’s matter on hold. Strike it off now.) She laughed heartily until she got home.
At Lorene Walker’s Apartment
She got home dejected and wished she could move her house to erase the memory of her misplaced love, but since she could not, she did only what she could. She quickly changed her bedsheets and removed his toothbrush from the bathroom and trashed it. That exercise only gave her a momentary relief because she had actually sat with him all over the house.
“Nichole, you scammed me? You will pay with your job.”
She thought aloud before she settled down to have her meal and take her medications. Then, she thought of Evelyn Whyte who she saw last week.
“Oh! Evelyn. I forgot to check her office before leaving the hospital.”
She talked under her breath as she pulled out her handset from her purse to give her a call. However, she dialed her number and waited excitedly but to her consternation, her phone was switched off. She took a critical look at her phone and muttered.
“It is not her nature to put off her phone. What must have happened?”
Then, she dialed her number again and got the same result. Now, she gave up and concluded that she must have been busy. When she was about to toss her phone aside and concentrate on her meal, she got a call from Evelyn Whyte’s partner, who was calling her for the second time since her disappearance since last Monday. She picked immediately and spoke.
“Hello, Reuben. Good to hear from you.”
“Hello, Lorene. Good to hear from you. How is Evelyn?”
“I gave her a call some minutes ago, but I discovered that her phone was switched off.”
Then, the disturbed Reuben asked.
“I thought that she had been with you. I checked her house last week but could not find her. And I am at her office, but she was not there.”
“Last week?”
“Yes. I tried reaching you, too, but to no avail.”
Now, sweat had gathered on her forehead as she held her phone without speaking. Then, Reuben continued.
“I sent a message to you when I could not reach you. Check your message box.”
Presently, Lorene Walker, who was gob smacked, had found her bearing and announced.
“It is all right. I will get back to you.”
“Okay. I will be waiting.”
Meanwhile, Lorene who was just recovering from ill health suddenly lost her appetite. She pushed her plate of food aside and set out to check her message box. To her annoyance, she was faced with numerous messages from whom she termed her ex-lover of three days. Then, she continued to flip through before she got to Reuben’s message. Then, she read through his message and shook her head.
“Last week? How would one explain this?”
She asked herself and stared at the wall.
At the Medical Center
After Dr. Quain left the Chairman’s office, he drove to the Medical Center to meet with the Medical Director who was expecting him, and he received him joyously the moment he got to his office.
“Welcome to Dover, Dr. Quain.”
He greeted after he gave him a hug.
“Thank you, Dr. Harper. I am glad to see you.”
“I am glad to see you too. I hope your journey was not stressful.”
“Not at all. My boss said that you needed my attention. I hope there is no problem?”
“Please, take your seat.”
Dr. Harper said as he ushered him to a visitor’s seat and walked back to his seat. Then, he smiled and attempted to veer him off the question.
“We will see the Chairman before anything else. Meanwhile, what would you like to take, tea or coffee?”
Dr. Quain chuckled and rested on the chair before he responded.
“Tea will be okay for now.”
“It is all right.”
Dr. Harper said as he called on his secretary to get the tea. Now, Dr. Quain gave his boss a call to while away time. When the call connected, Mr. Louis Bailey spoke enthusiastically.
“Hello, Dr. Quain. I am glad to hear from you.”
“Hello, Mr. Bailey. I’m glad to hear from you, too. I wish to inform you that I am at the Headquarters.”
“Oh! I am delighted to hear that. What is the emergency about?”
Now, Dr. Harper, who was listening to their conversation while he was writing, looked up from the book and focused on him, hoping to hear the response he would give to his boss.
“I am yet to find out.”
Dr. Quain responded and Dr. Harper continued with his writing.
“It is okay. Just keep me informed.”
“I will do that. See you later.”
“Bye.”
Thereafter, the secretary served the tea and returned to her office.
At the Food Planet Restaurant
After Mr. Arthur Bailey picked his wife from the hospital, he gave Dr. Harper a call and requested that he should join him at the restaurant with Dr. Quain.
“It is all right, boss. Which of the restaurants?”
“I will send the name and the direction of the restaurant immediately I get off the phone.”
“That will be fine.”
