You Came Too Late
“Louis, are you there? Talk to me.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Louis Bailey felt that he had failed his family and was tearing up. Then, the doctor collected the phone from him and spoke with the Chairman.
“Good day, boss.”
When the Chairman heard Dr. Quain’s voice, he inquired with an officious tone.
“Hello, Dr. Quain. Why are you with Louis? Is he at the Clinic or are you in his office?”
At this point, Dr. Quain, who was not prepared for the question, simply responded.
“Mr. Bailey will speak with you shortly.”
“It is all right.”
(Cut)
Subsequently, he gave Mr. Louis Bailey a passionate look and advised.
“I can ask my secretary to get your phone.”
He nodded in the affirmative, and the chef announced.
“Lunch is ready, boss.”
The chef, who felt that he may be disturbing their meeting, did not wait for his boss’s response and walked away. Now, the doctor was through with the message he was typing and sent it to his secretary. Then he spoke.
“You need to eat. You are starving.”
He breathed in and out before he said.
“Thank you, doctor. Let’s move over to the dining table.”
“It is all right.”
They walked up to the dinner table and settled down to eat. While they were eating, the doctor noticed that Louis was about to doze off, then he advised.
“You can go and sleep. I will wait to receive your phone from my secretary.”
Mr. Louis Bailey looked at the doctor and appreciated.
“Thank you, doctor.”
“You are welcome. Do you still wish to eat more?”
Now, he was awake and wished to eat more. He nodded and continued with his food. The doctor began to fetch the food for him, just the way Denise did for him the last time he visited, and he ate to his heart’s desire. Afterwards, they got off the dining table.
“Your secretary should be here by now.”
He remarked when they took their seat on the couch.
“You are right.”
The doctor responded, and he looked at the time on his phone.
Thursday
Mr. Stephen Bailey left his house that morning for the airport. To his expectation, he was able to beat the airport checks and boarded successfully.
“These airport staff members are of poor judgment. How could they not dictate my tricks?”
He mumbled as he took his seat in the aircraft. Meanwhile, other passengers took their seats accordingly beside him. When he became uncomfortable with his mask, he unmasked and bent his head as though, he was asleep. When, the man beside him attempted to engage him in a conversation, he declined by pretending to be sleeping. Throughout the five hours trip to Bricks Mont, he bent his head to avoid being detected. He waved his right to hospitality from the airline. When they got Bricks Mont, he masked up again. Finally, he was out of the waiting lounge of the Bricks Mont International Airport.
“I cannot visit Ann and Tim looking like this. Let me check into a hotel.”
He decided. Now, there were many taxis lined up and seemed not interested in picking passengers. He took his time to study them and discovered that they were not the regular taxis that he was familiar with. Likewise, he looked around for the regular taxis, but found none.
“No taxis? What is happening? How do I get to the hotel?”
He muttered in displeasure. Then, he looked up and saw the passenger who sat beside him in the aircraft attempting to board one of the taxis. When he discovered that he succeeded in boarding one, he became courageous and boarded too.
“Hello, I’m heading to Rock Bay Inn.”
He informed the taxi driver.
“It is all right, Sir. You can come in.”
The driver responded cheerfully. He got off his car and walked to the car trunk, opened and carefully arranged his luggage.
“Welcome to Bricks Mont.”
The driver greeted cheerfully when they got into the vehicle.
“Thank you.”
Mr. Stephen Bailey responded.
‘This driver has good work ethics. The new company must have trained their drivers on good Public Relations.’
He pondered as he sat quietly at the back seat and observed the road which he was familiar with. Soon, they arrived at the Rock Bay Inn and the driver announced warmly.
“Here we are, Sir.”
“Good. What is my bill?”
The driver, who was already out of the car, walked to the car trunk and got his luggage out. He gave him his bill and he settled it.
“Thank you for your services. Your company is the best,”
Mr. Stephen Bailey commended as he attempted to walk to the reception of the inn. Then the driver responded.
“You are welcome, Sir. I hope to see you again.”
The Rock Bay Inn was one of the low-class hotels in the city that is noted with criminal activities. Apart from that, the cost of lodging is relatively low because the owner would always make up through gambling. Now, compared to his financial condition, that was the best that he could afford. Now, he got to the reception and set out to do his booking, to his chagrin, the passenger, who sat beside him in the aircraft arrived too. Before, he was through with his booking, four more guests arrived, and he was able to recognize two out of the four guests as his fellow passengers. Afterwards, he checked into his room and settled down.
At The Bailey International Conglomerates.
When Mr. Denise Bailey got home after work on Wednesday, he got a mail from The Chief of the Defense Staff of Dunforn South, Admiral Charles Twist, informing him that his Prime Minister wished to have a meeting with him the next day.
“Oh! My God.”
He exclaimed after reading the mail. Then, his wife, who was beside him when he exclaimed, asked anxiously.
“What is the matter?”
He looked at his wife and wondered if he had startled her and asked.
“I hope I have not startled you?”
“Not at all. What happened?”
