The Epiphany 18

“Hello, boss. Good morning.”
“Good morning, Dr. Quain. What is the latest?”
“Everything is under control. I am sure he would be up in the next two hours.”
“It is all right. Just give me a call when he is up. I would love to speak with him.”
“There is no problem. That is, if he would still remember that there is something like a phone.”
The doctor teased. Mr. Arthur Bailey smiled at his joke and dismissed him.
“I will be waiting for your call.”
Now, Mr. Denise Bailey, who was not aware of all the trouble surrounding his brother, Louis, which gave his father a sleepless night, was going about his activities happily. He got to his father’s office to inform him of their planned trip to Bricks Mont.
“Did the doctor approve of it?”
“Yes, father.”
“That is good. When do you wish to leave?”
“We will leave tomorrow morning so that she would rest before the ceremony on Friday.”
“That is good.”
“I will inform mom later.”
“It is all right.”
At Mr. Stephen Bailey’s House.
While he was picking his valuables from his room, he could not think of any place to run to other than to his first lover and the mother of his son.
“She had patiently waited for me to make up my mind and settle down with him. I think this is the right time to do that.”
He said to himself. Now, he smiled as the hope of having a happy family flashed in his mind.
“First love is the deepest. Ann and Tim, I will make it up to you.”
Now, there was a challenge. How would he leave the country? The police may be looking for him.
“It may not be easy at the airport, but I will sort it out.”
He concluded and began to search for his passports. He had three of them that were not obtained with his real name and nationality. So, he was going to leave the country as a foreigner. The idea of leading a new life gave him inner joy, which increased his appetite. He quickly ordered for food from a nearby eatery. Soon, it was supplied and he ate joyously.
At the Clinic.
Mr. Louis Bailey had a sound sleep from Tuesday morning to Wednesday afternoon and woke up with a light head. The first person he saw was Dr. Quain, who he gave a warm smile.
“Hello, Mr. Bailey. How are you?”
“I’m good, doctor.”
Now, he had left the theater for the ward. When he looked around, he noticed that he was in a different room. Then he asked.
“Where am I?”
“You are in the ward.”
The doctor responded with a smile. Now, he tried to get up from the bed, the doctor who was standing beside him assisted him, and he sat on the bed looking delighted.
“You must be starving.”
The doctor declared.
“Yes. I’m famished."
“Get ready. I will take you home.”
“It is all right.”
Now, Dr. Quain got his clothes from the wardrobe. He handed them over to him, and he changed from the hospital wears to his personal wears. Afterwards, the doctor stepped aside to give him some privacy.
“Excuse me.”
“It is all right.”
The doctor got back to his office and gave the Chairman a call.
“Hello, Dr. Quain. Any news?”
“Yes, boss. He is up.”
“Oh! That is good. Can I give him a call now?”
“No, boss. I will advise that you give him some time. Otherwise, he may suspect a foul play on my part.”
“I got it. I will give him some time. So, what next?”
“He is famished right now. I will take him home and ensure that he eats.”
“That is good. Thank you, doctor.”
“You don’t need to mention it.”
Then, the doctor walked backed to the ward and met him dressed up and advised.
“You can’t drive now. I will take you home.”
“I agree with you, doctor.”
Now, Dr. Quain walked him to the car park. He watched Louis obediently sat on the passenger’s seat and fastened his seat belt. He got into his car too, and they took off.
When he got to Mr. Louis Bailey’s house, his domestic staff was surprised to see him because they thought that he was out of town.
“Welcome back, boss. Welcome, doctor.”
They greeted one after the other.
“Fred, Tony, how are you?”
“Fine, boss.”
“I will like it, you give me lunch in the next ten minutes. I’m starving.”
“There is no problem. What if you begin with snacks?”
“That will be perfect.”
Now, the chef set out to get the snacks and Mr. Louis Bailey turned to the doctor who had been standing quietly beside him and announced.
“Kindly make yourself comfortable, doctor. I will be back.”
“It is all right.”
Now, Dr. Quain took his seat comfortably and watched him walked to his bedroom. He smirked and mumbled.
“I can’t wait to see the end of this movie.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Arthur Bailey had given at least a thirty-minute interval before giving Louis a call. He gladly dialed his number, but to his disillusionment, the phone was off. He ignored it and continued to wait. As a matter of fact, he did not do any work that day other than to wait for the doctor’s report. After twenty minutes, he gave him another call, but it was switched off. Now, he began to sweat under the air conditioner. Just as he had discussed with Dr. Quain, to avoid a foul play on his part which is against his professional ethics, he declined the idea of giving him a call. Then, he thought of his secretary, Cassandra Owen.
“I can reach him through his secretary.”
He thought. Then, he called on Mrs. Felix, and she reported without delay.
“Good day, Mr. Bailey. You sent for me.”
“Yes. Get me the contact of the secretary of the Sevenoak branch.”
“Consider it done, Mr. Bailey.”
Now, Mrs. Felix, who was not aware of the shuffling that Mr. Louis Bailey made at his branch returned after a few minutes with Miss Cassandra Owen’s official contact which Louis did not bother to retrieve from her and announced
