You Came Too Late 10
Now, he looked like a street urchin who was rooming about searching for food at any party spot, just to have food to quench his hunger. Besides, he had been through a lot of late and was emaciated and unkempt.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the latest couple in the world.”
Now, the witnesses stood up and gave a standing and clapping ovation to the couple. Mr. Stephen Bailey had no reason to stand up, but he stood up too and clapped cheerfully. When a cuckold man watches another man making love to his wife, he may find solace in the fact that he was a cuckold. However, in Mr. Stephen Bailey’s case, he was an able-bodied and sexual active man who can sleep with and satisfy two women with high sex drive at a go. He felt like a man who was watching his wife being raped, and he was forced to see the details.
Now, the clapping and standing ovation had ceased, and the couple had walked to the table to sign some papers. Now, Mr. Stephen Bailey decided to sneak out and nurse his wound.
“Excuse me, please.”
He said to the person sitting next to him when he stood up and set to walk out. Now, Mr. Denise Bailey had been waiting for the opportunity to walk out and respond to the calls from a client. He saw that time as the right time to do that. So he excused himself.
“My Angel, excuse me. I want to make some calls.”
“It is all right, Hubby.”
Then he stood up and Tim, who felt that he had not flaunted his new wears enough, tagged along.
“Uncle, where are you going?”
Now, the person sitting next to Mr. Stephen Bailey had gotten up to make way for him to walk out. Then, Mr. Denise Bailey, who was coming from the front of the hall and was walking towards the back where the door was, saw a familiar face and halted. Tim, who was behind him, halted too and asked.
“What happened, Uncle?”
He made a swift turn as though he forgot something to avoid contact with Mr. Stephen Bailey, who was concentrating on getting off the pew.
“I forgot something.”
He walked back at once, and Tim stood at that spot to wait for him. Suddenly, he saw an intruder who he would have naturally walked out of the wedding at the door, and he ran after him.
“What do you want? Leave at once.”
At this point, Mr. Stephen Bailey was walking briskly towards the gate of the court while Tim yelled after him. Then, Mr. Denise Bailey had sat down beside his wife and pretended not to know that there was an uproar outside the hall. Meanwhile, some witnesses who heard Tim’s voice were already looking towards the window to catch a glimpse of the uproar. Then, Mr. McGregor had to walk out too, since his wife was at the table with the couple as a representative of the Princewill’s family. When he saw Tim ranting, he called out.
“Tim, what is the matter?”
Meanwhile, Mr. Stephen Bailey had succeeded in walking out of the gate and got a cab at once. The same driver who brought him that morning to the court was the same driver who drove to his rescue. This time, the driver was parked outside the gate and was waiting for somebody. Then, Mr. Stephen Bailey walked up to him and began to open the passenger’s seat and at the same time announcing his destination. To take him out of danger, the driver unlocked the door for him. Now, Tim got to the car after he got in and began to hit on the window and cursing at the same time.
“Coward. Don’t dream of coming near us again…”
When the driver ensured that Mr. Stephen Bailey had sat comfortably in the car, he zoomed off, praying that the angry youngster would not throw a stone at them and shatter his glasses. Then, Tim began to walk back to the court, where his uncle and the other witnesses were standing.
“Who is that, Tim?”
Mr. McGregor asked again. Now, Tim was already fretting and did not know what to tell his uncle. Not only that, he simply leaned on his shoulder to calm his nerves.
“It is all right. I understand how you feel.”
Now, the couple was through with the signing of the register and was walking out of the hall. Then, the witnesses filed behind them.
“Put yourself together, Tim so that you do not ruin your mother’s ceremony.”
Mr. McGregor advised. Then, Tim cheered up at once at least, because of his mom. Then, Mr. Denise Bailey, who had understood where the affinity he had for Tim was coming from, gave him a searching look. When he got to the verandah, he walked up to him and tried to cheer up, but Mr. Denise Bailey asked in a low tone.
“What’s up Tim? You are not cheerful.”
He smiled softly and assured him.
“I will be fine, Uncle.”
“It is all right.”
At the Rock Bay Inn
When he got into the car and Tim began to hit on the window glass, Mr. Stephen Bailey was exhilarated. He could not believe that he would not break the glass and hit him until the driver drove off.
“Thank you, driver. You have saved an ugly situation.”
“You are welcome, Sir. Where are we going, Sir?”
“Take me back to the Inn.”
“It is noted, Sir.”
Then, the driver joined the main road and began to head towards the Inn. When they got to the verandah of the Inn, the driver stopped and Mr. Stephen Bailey got off and paid the driver, who collected it with ignominy. He looked at him and wondered why the respectful and friendly driver suddenly acted that way. When he could not get any clue, he ignored him and began to walk to his room. He was surprised when he saw the two men who sat with him at the court hall.
