The Epiphany 15

“Oh! Arthur, why did you choose to distant yourself from me?”
“I am sorry, my Patriarch. I promise to be frequent in my visit.”
The Patriarch looked at the genuine smile on his face and accepted his apology.
“It is all right. How is your family?”
“My family is fine. I wish to appreciate you for your presence during my son’s marriage.”
“It is ok. How is Nichole, your late brother’s widow?”
When he set out to marry Nichole secretly, he was prepared for a day like that. Now that it had come, he was unfazed and would face it. He smiled softly and informed.
“Wow! Nichole is fine. We returned from our honeymoon last Sunday.”
He pretended as though he was not aware of the shock on the Patriarch’s face, and continued before he could recover from his shock.
“She sends her greetings. We will make out time to come and see you one day.”
Now, the gob smacked Patriarch discovered that he had judged Denise wrongly by concluding that he was repulsive when he said that his mother was married. Furthermore, he looked at Mr. Arthur Bailey, who was calm and asked.
“When?”
“Three weeks ago.”
The Patriarch, who was lost of what to say, simply said.
“That is good. Congratulations.”
“Thank you, our father.”
Meanwhile, the relieved Mr. Arthur brought up a different topic, avoiding the issue of Mr. Stephen Bailey. They chatted freely and when it was five minutes to the meeting time, he excused himself.
“I will be in the hall, our father.”
Now, he was already standing, and the Patriarch stood too.
“Let us go. It is time.”
They walked out of the Patriarch’s parlor and headed to the hall. To their surprise, the hall was already filled up. The news of Mr. Stephen Bailey hiring assassins to eliminate a fellow kinsman had spread among the family members, and they were eager to be at the meeting for different reasons.
Soon the meeting began. Mr. Stephen Bailey, who was there and drenched with shame, could not look up despite the mockery side talks that were flying around him. When they sighted Mr. Arthur Bailey walking in with the Patriarch, the hall became quiet. Then, the Patriarch took his seat on the stage where the secretary was already seated, while Arthur too his seat with the elders. The house was so rowdy that no one was listening to anyone. It was as though the reconciliation was never to be.
Now, Mr. Arthur Bailey, who had nothing to lose if the meeting was inconclusive, greeted his friends and left as well as others. He was certain that the police had eyes on him so, he was not bothered, and after all, the meeting was only a formality.
Monday. At the Police Station
The police had arrested sixty-five women and nine men, including Mr. Christopher Harry’s spy, in connection with the attack on Mr. Arthur Bailey. Meanwhile, they believed that there could be other people who were hiding from their eyes. Before that day, suspects had been given the conditions to their bails which was to produce their sponsors, but they were reluctant as the police thought. Nevertheless, the police decided to parade them to the public to serve as a deterrent to other criminals and their sponsors.
That day, they were brought from their various cells to the Constable’s office. To Lorene Walker’s surprise, she saw an emaciated Evelyn Whyte who was ashamed to see her with handcuffs just like her. She only opened her mouth in dismay.
“Are you ready to let us know your sponsors?”
The Constable asked. They kept mute, and he mistook it for hardness of the heart, which can only be seen in the lives of hardened criminals. Then, the Constable announced.
“You have between now and Wednesday morning to produce your sponsors, or you will leave me with no choice than to do my job.”
After the interrogation, they were returned to their cells. Nonetheless, the wolves, were still believing that their boss, Mr. Stephen Bailey was meeting with the higher ups in the city for their release.
Mr. Christopher Harry could not think of any sponsors because he master minded the plot to add the sex inducing herbs to Nichole’s tea. On the other hand, Tricia had confessed that she was engaged by Mr. Harry.
Meanwhile, Evelyn Whyte, Lorene Walker, Whitney Relish and the other women had stated that they went on a casual visit which the police did not believe because there was no appointment with whomever they went to visit neither do they have the contact of their supposed host.
Tuesday at Sevenoaks
As agreed, Max left Sevenoaks and returned to Dover on Sunday and Louis was happy with it. He arranged for one of the drivers to drive him. Now, he was prepared for the Memory Erasure Surgery, which was his only alternative to live without Olivia. That day, he drove to the clinic, where the doctor was waiting for him.
“Good morning, Dr. Quain.”
“Good morning, Mr. Bailey. Good to see you.”
“What of the professionals, are they here?”
“Sure. If you are ready, shall we move to the theater?”
He turned his phone off and handed it over to the doctor, who collected it and dropped it in his drawer. They moved over to the theater and Louis was surprised that there were no doctors there. He looked at Dr. Quain, who understood the look. Then, he looked through the theater window and Louis who followed the direction of his eyes saw two professionals who were putting on surgical gowns. They were also putting surgical caps which covered their hairs and fully masked, looking out to something on their system. Then the doctor assured him.
“They will come in when we are set.”
“It is all right. Thank you, doctor.”
Louis, who was moody as though he was embarking on a journey which he could not ascertain whether he would even return, replied. Now, the doctor gave him surgical wears, which he put on and laid on the bed.
