You Came Too Late 1
Now, Mr. Denise Bailey informed her of the meeting, and she inquired.
“Have you booked for the flight?”
“No. I was about to do that when the message came in.”
“That is good. If the meeting will not take long, I suggest that you book for an afternoon flight. Otherwise, we go by an evening flight.”
“I think you are right. I will book for 2 PM flight. I will schedule the meeting to begin by 9 am tomorrow.”
“It is okay.”
“Yes. The meeting should not last more than two hours.”
Subsequently, he booked their flight and accommodation for 2 PM and on Thursday morning, he got to the office and held the Zoom meeting with the Prime Minister and the members of his cabinet. The meeting, which lasted for one hour, was successful because they were willing to drop their weapons. After the meeting, he returned home and his astonished wife asked when she walked up to meet him in the car.
“What happened? Did you cancel the meeting?”
“No. We are through.”
“Welcome back.”
“Thank you.”
At 2 PM, they set out for Heathrow International Airport and arrived at Bricks Mont at 7 PM. Meanwhile, he was surprised when he got a call from a driver introducing himself as a driver from the Springfield Tourism and Resort Center.
“Good evening, Mr. Bailey. Welcome to Bricks Mont.”
“Good evening. Who am I speaking with, please?”
“I am Mr. Sean Finnegan from the Springfield Tourism and Resort Center. I am your assigned driver.”
The punctilious Mr. Denise Bailey who must protect his wife declined forthwith.
“Wow! That is nice of you. I am sorry. My driver is around.”
“It is all right. We are pleased to have you around.”
“Thank you.”
Now, when Denise booked for the accommodation, he was not aware that he equally paid for the transportation services. It was part of the complimentary services attached to the Diamond Suite which he booked. Meanwhile, when he declined, the driver called the office at once and reported.
“All right, Sean. You can return to the office.”
The manager of the center advised. Afterwards, he logged into his system to look at Mr. Denise Form again.
“He said he is visiting the country for the first time. How come he has a driver around?”
The manager pondered. After a few minutes, he chuckled.
“May be a relation.”
Then, he dismissed the thought and concentrated on his work. After twenty minutes, Mr. Denise Bailey arrived at the Resort Center with a taxi which put the management of the Center in a difficult situation, especially Sean, the driver.
Naturally, Taxis were not allowed in the center and the taxi driver was aware of that. So, he warned before they took off.
“I will leave you at the gate.”
“Why?”
“We are not allowed into the Resort Center.”
“It is all right.”
‘At least it is better than riding with someone I am not certain about his identity.’
He said to himself when he settled down with his wife at the back seat. They got to the gate of the Resort Center and the taxi driver pulled up. The security men at the gate looked at him intently to discover the manner of lawlessness that he wanted to exhibit. Before one of them could walk up to him, Mr. Denise Bailey and his wife were already out of the car.
“Hey, it is wrong for you to park here.”
The security man warned the taxi driver. Meanwhile, Mr. Denise Bailey doubled his pay and he was in a high spirit. Then, he ignored the security men and helped his passengers to get their luggage off the trunk. When he was through, he appreciated Mr. Bailey.
“Thank you, Sir.”
“You are welcomed.”
Then the security man repeated himself.
“Move. It is wrong to park here.”
Now, the taxi driver, who was already in his car, looked straight into his eyes and taunted.
“It is wrong to leave your guests stranded. Appreciate me for coming to their rescue.”
The taxi driver drove off before the security man could respond. Now, Denise and his wife who were already dragging their trolley bag smiled softly.
They just realized that their action was a discredit on the Resort Center. The security man, who must redeem the image of the center, set out to assist by collecting the trolley bag from Mr. Denise.
“Welcome to the Springfield Tourism and Resort Center. I can assist with this. Sir.”
“Never mind.”
Denise tried to decline, but the man would not take that. Then, he allowed him to have the bag while they walked to the security gate. Meanwhile, the manager was astounded when the activity at the gate caught his attention. He was about calling the Chief of the Security to reprimand him for allowing a taxi to park in the front of the hotel when he saw a couple getting off the taxi. When he discovered that he was their Diamond Guest, he muttered.
“What is the meaning of this?”
Then, he picked his phone and gave Mr. Sean Finnegan a call. When, he picked, the manager yelled.
“Why did you leave our guest stranded?”
Now, the driver, who was sitting at the Transport Department after he returned from the airport, was surprised with the Manager’s question. Then, he asked.
“Hello Mr. Sullivan. Which of the guests, please?”
Mr. Sullivan, who must blame a staff for the problem that his guest had caused, ordered.
“Meet me at the vestibule.”
“All right, Mr. Sullivan.”
The Manager walked swiftly to the elevator and got to the lounge at once. Then, he waited for the driver, who arrived after a few seconds.
“Take me to the gate.”
He announced when he got into the car.
“It is noted, Mr. Sullivan.”
Now, Mr. Denise Bailey and his wife had arrived at the Security Gate and were about to fill the guests’ register when Mr. Sullivan walked in.
“Mr. Bailey. Welcome to the Springfield Tourism and Resort Center.”
He looked up from the form that he was filling and saw a well-dressed man standing before him. Before he could respond, the manager collected the form and pen from him and declared.
