The Secret 1

At the Government Hospital
When she got to the Board Room, she met two of her male colleagues and a female as the members of the committee. Now, Dr. Marcus Caesar had set up the committee to look into the report of Lorene Walker against Mrs. Nichole Bailey. She took her seat opposite Lorene, who was already seated. The two male members of the committee sat at the two edges of the conference table, while the female member sat beside one of them. Then, the leader of the committee began by introducing the members of the committee and the reason for the meeting. Afterwards, he asked Lorene to narrate her story once again.
Now, Lorene Walker took a critical look at the members of the committee and noticed that they had no readable expression on their faces. To her consternation, she was just aware that they were the colleagues who would look into her case. If she had known before now, she would have lobbied for their favor. Then she began.
“Sob. Sob. I was going about my duty on that day and I needed to get the document I left in her office. When I walked in, I greeted her warmly, but she ignored my greetings. Sob. Sob. ”
“Lorene Walker, please put yourself together and talk to us.”
The leader of the committee pacified. With that, she was convinced that she had attracted the sympathy of the leader then, she continued.
“Then, I calmly asked if she had seen the document I left on her desk the previous week, but to my surprise, she began to call me derogatory names and pushing me at the same time. Then, as a trained nurse, I knew it was against the ethics to engage another colleague in a fight, so I respected myself. To my surprise, she grabbed my hands, shook me vigorously, and I slumped. That was all I could remember."
Now, the members of the committee were listening carefully to her narration, when she was through, the other male colleague spoke, while Mrs. Nichole Bailey looked on nonchalantly
“Your story is quite pathetic, Lorene Walker. Can you tell us how your document got to her office the previous week?”
Now, Lorene Walker thought that if she feigned weakness, the committee would pass the verdict at once in her favor. So, she was not prepared for such question. Then she thought of a suitable lie.
“I paid her a visit.”
She was not proud to say that she went to ask her for Mr. Arthur Bailey’s contact. Then, the female member of the committee who had been writing raised her head and asked a mockery question.
“I see. Do trained nurses leave their duty posts and pay visit to their colleagues during working hours?”
Now, Lorene could not think of any reasonable response to her question so, she kept mute. Then the leader of the committee who had her report in front of him could see some discrepancies in her narrations and to avoid flooding the issue, he spoke.
“It is all right. Thank you, Lorene Walker. Mrs. Nichole Bailey, Can we hear from you?"
“Thank you, Sir.”
She responded cheerfully and then began.
“They came to my…”
“They?”
The baffled committee member inquired simultaneously. Then, the leader looked at her report which was in front of him and looked back at Lorene Walker, who was speechless. Then Nichole Bailey carried on.
“Yes. When they learned that I had gotten married, they barged into my office that day and requested for the contact of Mr. Bailey, and I graciously gave it to them.”
Then, the female committee member pointed out.
“Oh! Thank you for that gesture, Mrs. Bailey. I want to believe that Mr. Bailey was one of our patients and as a trained nurse, she wanted to follow up on his health, right?”
‘If only she would say ‘yes’ to that question.’
Lorene wished. Then, Mrs. Nichole Bailey, who was calm and composed, continued.
“I would not know her reason for such request, but I could remember the explanation that she gave to me that day.”
She paused and looked at the committee members before she continued.
“Yes, go on.”
They encouraged.
“She said, ‘…especially now that you are happily married. You can release his phone number so that we can hook up with him.’
“During working hours?”
The puzzled leader of the committee quizzed.
“Yes, Sir.”
“It is all right. Let us fast-forward to that Tuesday, what happened?”
Now, Mrs. Nichole Bailey did not mince words in her response.
“What happened on Tuesday was that I was in Cairo enjoying my honeymoon with my husband.”
Now, the members of the committee were amazed because they were not expecting such response, which was far from what they wished to hear. They looked at her face and she was looking as innocent as a baby. Then, they looked at her expensive wedding ring before the leader spoke.
“Mrs. Bailey, we are lost. Can you throw more light on your claim?”
“Just like I said, I had been away for six working days. I just resumed yesterday.”
At this point, the members of the committee were puzzled. They gave Lorene a searching look, and she was as confused as they were.
“Do you have anything to say, Lorene Walker?”
The team leader inquired. Then, the brilliant, hot and savvy Lorene borrowed a leaf from the comment of the female committee member and flared out in range.
“She is a trained liar. I wanted to follow a patient up, so I requested for his number since they were from the same family. She hit me on Tuesday, she almost killed me.”
At the Bailey Native Home
Mr. Arthur Bailey and Max Winston laughed their heads off when Mr. Phil Anderson was narrating how he planned with his wife to ensure that he met Nichole at Cairo. Then, he commended.
“That was very thoughtful of you, Phil. I was lost of what to do after she abandoned me at the airport the day we took Julie to the airport.”
