The Secret 13

Denise looked at his Orderly for his opinion and he said.
“Tea for me.”
Denise called on his clerk, who served them with the tea. Meanwhile, Mr. Arthur Bailey, who was watching them from his office, got an alert of the payment made by Max and his colleague and he was delighted. Denise got the alert too, but he was busy to comment on that at that moment. When Admiral Charles Twist was through with his tea, he appreciated and went straight to the point.
“Mr. Bailey, I wish to appreciate you for the gesture you have given to my country by taking care of our accommodation. We have been treated like kings since we arrived yesterday. Thank you so much.”
Now, Denise, responded cheerfully and with the confidence of the grandson of a Retired General with a Difference.
“It is my pleasure.”
“Like we were deliberating two days ago, we need the ammunition, but the price you have given to us is far beyond our reach. Please reconsider your stand.”
Now, the ground was wet for Mr. Denise Bailey, and he took advantage of it. Then he asked.
“Admiral Twist, what do you think is your country’s immediate and pressing need at the moment?”
The excited Admiral, who thought that his plea had made an impact on Mr. Denise Bailey, confidently answered.
“Ammunition. We need them badly.”
Now, Denise proceeded.
“Admiral Twist, I am not in your country, but I can bet you that what your country need presently is not ammunition but peace, food, medical services, education, shelter and so on. You have been at war with a sister country for five years, and you are so engrossed in it that you have become insensitive to the basic needs of life. May, I ask, Admiral Twist, how many people lives have you wasted as a result of the war, especially the innocent youths. Your leaders of tomorrow – ten, one hundred or one thousand? I am certain that you have lost count.”
Presently, the Admiral’s eyes were moist, and his Orderly was not left out. They had lost their loved once as a result of the war, but they could not stop. They had to continue to fight until their ends come. After Denise ended his counselling and admonition, he waited for the response of his guest, who was awe stricken. Now, many thoughts began to find their ways into his mind.
‘We have been getting weapons from other ammunition suppliers, who gladly supplied us and make more money out of our meager resources. Now, look at a young man, who is not after our money but after the well-being of our country.’
After a few seconds, he spoke.
“Thank you, Mr. Bailey, for your concern over our country. We would love to take your advice, but it is not in our power to decide. Besides, if we wish to ceasefire, what of our adversary? They may think we are weak to continue the fight and take advantage of us.”
Now, Denise had noticed that the Admiral was moved with his advice then, he went on to make things easier for him.
“You are right, Admiral. I will suggest that you get in touch with your country and make up your mind. Think of a mutual solution to your differences with your adversary instead of killing each other, especially your youths.”
Meanwhile, the Admiral had stripped himself of his military dignity and was weeping like a baby. Mr. Denise Bailey handed a serviette over to him, which he used to dry his cheeks that were drenched with tears. Now, he was not thinking of acquiring the ammunition anymore but how to end the war and secure the lives of his wife and only daughter who had been out of school. After he had pulled himself together, he spoke.
“Thank you once again, Mr. Bailey. We will get back to you. We would return to our country this evening and meet with our leaders to deliberate on your advice.”
“It is all right. But why are you in a haste to leave this evening? Don’t you love my country?”
The considerate Admiral smiled and corrected.
“No, Mr. Bailey. Don’t get us wrong. We love your country, but we are considering the cost of the hotel, which may be too much for you.”
Mr. Denise Bailey smiled generously and assured him.
“I am not complaining. Take your time and discuss with your government and get back to me.”
“We are genuinely grateful. We will be on our way.”
“It is all right. Be careful.”
“We will.”
The driver, who had been waiting for them, took them back to the Tourist Center, where the Admiral began to hold Zoom meetings with the government of his country. He got to realize that everyone was tired of the war but was just fighting aimlessly and the Prime Minister had been sustaining the military with a false hope. When the Chief of the Defense Staff brought up the suggestion, they willingly accepted the idea. Of course, they had no choice because they were intelligent to know that he may support their opponent if they refuse to take his suggestions.
At Mr. Denise Bailey’s Apartment
After he left for work, Olivia gave Freya a call. Incidentally, she was driving and could not pick her call. Nevertheless, she continued with updating her website and pages. Later, she got a call from Freya.
“Hello, Auntie Freya, good morning.”
“Good morning, Angel. What’s up?”
“I have a gist for you. How do we meet?”
“I am just leaving Daniel’s school. I can come over at once.”
“Okay, I am waiting.”
Now, Freya arrived after thirty minutes and Olivia showed her the story from her device. The embittered Freya demanded.
“Where did you get this story from?”
“I saw it on the internet this morning.”
Now, Freya murmured and set out to log in.
“How come I did not see it?”
“I have deleted it. That is why you could not see it.”
Freya cast a questioning look at her and asked.
“How is that possible?”
Then, she went through Lorene’s post and asked.
