Chapter 110: Could I Be Falling for This Kid?

Ella checked the time and asked, "Where are you heading now?"

Henry countered, "Aren't you going to ask why I was looking for your brother?"

"Erick said you forced Victoria to divorce him. Seeing Isabelle with him, I know he's been persuaded, so there's no issue between you two."

Henry smiled, "You know Isabelle?"

"I heard they were college sweethearts."

"Then why didn't you oppose his marriage to Victoria?"

Ella rolled her eyes, "Oppose? My parents and I opposed it, but he wouldn't listen."

Henry asked, "Do you know much about Victoria?"

Ella shook her head, "Met her once, didn't speak."

"She was your father's mistress. Did you know that?"

Ella was stunned and glanced sideways at Henry.

Henry quickly explained, "I'm not making this up. Victoria was originally Erick's lover. Erick used her to expand his social network. Many men have slept with her, not just your father."

Ella turned her face away, looking at the distant lake, "Are you trying to make me thank you for helping my brother? Remember, Henry, live within the law, and no one can harm you. If you cross the line, no one can save you."

Henry said, "I'm telling you, your brother still plans to marry Victoria."

Ella turned sharply to Henry.

"It's true. Ask your brother," Henry said, preparing to get out of the car.

"Where are you going?" Ella asked. "I'll take you."

"To Harbor Springs University."

Ella started the car and drove towards the university.

Henry thought Ella looked more like the noblewoman, especially in profile, as if they were cast from the same mold.

"By the way, Ella," Henry asked tentatively, "Do you have a sister?"

"No, why do you ask?"

"Oh, today I saw a red sports car with a Federal A9 plate outside a clothing store. The woman driving looked a lot like you."

Ella laughed, "What kind of eyesight do you have? That's my mom! Are you saying my mom looks young, or I look old?"

"Oh, it was far away. I didn't see clearly." Henry was excited, "That car looked new. Your family is so wealthy. Did your mom just buy it?"

Ella explained, "That car was a gift from my parents when I retired last year. I didn't want it, so she drives it."

Henry probed further, "Wealthy people indeed. A car bought last year, and it has such a good plate number?"

Ella rolled her eyes, "That plate has been around for years, probably older than you! When my parents got married, my dad gave my mom a red Santana with that plate. The Santana is still in the garage. My mom likes the number, so she put it on the sports car."

Henry's excitement grew.

It seemed his foster mother remembered correctly. His biological mother had driven a red Santana when she abandoned him.

Henry tried to control his emotions and asked, "Do you have any siblings?"

"Why, are you checking my private information?"

Henry awkwardly smiled, "Just asking."

Ella said, "Just my brother and me."

"Did your mom ever mention having another child, maybe lost or given away?"

"Are you crazy?" Ella glared at Henry. "If you can't talk, don't talk."

The car stopped at the university gate, and Ella turned her face away, looking annoyed.

"Thanks!"

Henry got out of the car and, seeing Ella still looking away, mustered the courage to ask, "Can I have your phone number?"

Ella turned back.

She expected Henry to be grinning like a flirt, but he was smiling sincerely, like a child.

Ella's heart skipped a beat!

At that moment, she saw the same pure look in Henry's eyes that she remembered from Bryan's childhood.

Ella gave her number and added, "Same for WeChat."

Henry sincerely thanked her before closing the door and heading to the university.

Ella was stunned!

How did this kid suddenly become someone else? Why did she feel a brotherly affection for him?

She reminded herself he was an ex-convict, a tough guy who had taken over Violet Bar. How could he be so sincere, so innocent, so radiant?

Was it because he was good at disguising himself, or was her intuition wrong?

Had she unknowingly been charmed by him?

Ella blushed for the first time because of a man.

"Kid!"

Ella spat out the words, more to herself, and drove away quickly.

Henry's excitement only subsided when he reached Jason's office.

He had many things to deal with but needed to prioritize. First, he had to address Jason's issue.

The office door was open. Henry saw Jason at his desk, looking at his computer.

Politely, Henry greeted, "Jason." Jason looked up, saw Henry, and stood up, inviting him to sit on the sofa by the desk.

Seeing Jason's confidence and ease, Henry knew Erick hadn't told him about the bar. Otherwise, Jason wouldn't be so composed.

"Henry," Jason said, sitting on the nearby sofa, "Are you fully recovered?"

"Thank you for your concern, Jason. I'm perfectly fine now."

Seeing Henry's politeness, Jason nodded, "Good. I was worried you might not fit in at the security office, but it seems I was wrong. If you're ready, start work tomorrow."

Henry smiled, "Let's postpone work. My brother and sister-in-law are inviting you to dinner this afternoon. Should we invite more people?"

Jason waved his hand, "No need for formalities. It's just a meal. Henry, I see you're quite polite. If you weren't an ex-convict, I'd like to mentor you."

Henry smiled, "Jason, is that because of my sister-in-law?"
