Chapter 54: A Little Fun is Fine
Henry chuckled softly, pulling Isabelle onto the bed and handing her a bowl of soup. "Here, have some soup and bread first."
Isabelle shot him a glare. "What's wrong with you? Why are you being so attentive to someone else's girlfriend?"
Henry laughed again and explained, "I was just worried you might not like me, so I said that. How about I start pursuing you now?"
"Get lost, country bumpkin! The farther, the better!"
Henry leaned in and kissed her on the cheek. Isabelle turned and glared at him, but Henry took the opportunity to kiss her on the lips. Isabelle rolled her eyes but didn't resist, allowing Henry to continue.
Henry quickly placed the thermos of soup on a nearby chair, wrapped one arm around Isabelle's neck, and slipped the other hand into her blouse. The previous night, Henry had touched her while she was asleep, but now it felt entirely different. He could feel Isabelle's body tremble slightly, her skin breaking out in goosebumps.
Just as Henry was about to push Isabelle onto the bed, he heard the sound of high heels clicking outside the door. Thinking it was a nurse, he quickly released her, but the footsteps passed by, likely belonging to a visitor of another patient.
Henry was about to lean in again when Isabelle frowned and asked, "When will you stop?"
Henry chuckled, "Alright, let's eat breakfast first."
He picked up the thermos and offered it to Isabelle, but she turned her face away. Henry thought for a moment, then used a spoon to feed her some soup. Isabelle glared at him but opened her mouth and drank the soup. Encouraged, Henry continued feeding her.
At that moment, Brandon, Jonathan, Christopher, Daniel, Ethan, and Gabriel arrived. If Isabelle had been feeding Henry, it would have been understandable since he was the patient. But seeing Henry feed Isabelle, it was clear they were flirting, and they had always thought Isabelle was Sean's girlfriend, making the situation awkward.
Isabelle, however, remained composed, acting as if nothing had happened. She got up, took two buns from a plastic bag, and walked out. She knew Brandon and the others had something to discuss with Henry and felt her presence would be inconvenient. To avoid Henry misunderstanding her departure, she took the buns with her.
Brandon smirked, "I knew you were tough, but I didn't expect you to be such a charmer. You've only been in Harbor Springs for a day and already have such a beautiful girl. Share your secrets!"
Henry frowned, "Just call me brother. You're two years older than me, and I can't bear you calling me Henry all the time."
Jonathan said, "You have to accept being called Henry. We're counting on you to lead us."
"Yes, Henry, we're with you for life," Christopher, Daniel, Ethan, and Gabriel echoed.
These men had one thing in common: unlike real hooligans, they all had jobs and were decent people, often banding together to form a group because they were frequently bullied. However, they hadn't followed the right leader, so they hadn't made a name for themselves.
Brandon had once stabbed a worker at his father's factory, resulting in a minor disability for the worker. He later turned himself in and was sentenced to five years in prison. Despite their flaws, these men weren't bad people at heart but wanted to make a name for themselves.
After Brandon's release, he told them many stories about Henry, and they admired him greatly. Seeing Henry's resilience, even after being badly beaten, and his refusal to use his connections with the powerful Robert, they were in awe of his courage and determination.
Unaware of the events of the previous night, they would have been even more impressed if they had known. Seeing their persistence, Henry decided not to argue further. They had come bearing gifts worth hundreds of dollars and a red envelope with ten thousand dollars, which they had pooled together. Henry wanted to refuse but accepted it, knowing they were sincere and not wanting to offend them.
Brandon then reminded Henry, "Henry, we know that girl is Sean's girlfriend. We're not afraid of Sean, but just a heads-up: have fun, but don't take leftovers seriously."
Henry laughed, "You misunderstood. She's my brother and sister-in-law's neighbor, not Sean's girlfriend. Her boyfriend is Bryan, the son of Cole from The Davis Family Group."
Hearing this, the men's eyes lit up. Jonathan said, "Bryan is a playboy. Maybe they're just playing around. If that's the case, you might win her over, and she might even stick with you."
He meant that Henry should make Bryan a cuckold, not steal her away permanently. Henry shook his head, "I'm not that kind of person. I'll either pursue her seriously or treat her as a friend, nothing else."
Gabriel explained, "Henry, Jonathan didn't mean any harm. He just noticed she treats you well and heard from Sean that she's a college graduate. But we're men, and while we're not as traditional as before, people might think you're desperate if you date her after Sean and Bryan."
