Chapter 78: The Hard Drives Are Missing
Henry explained, "I'm not a businessman, so I don't always act for profit. Some things I can't stand, so I intervene.
Victoria, with her attitude towards my sister-in-law and Isabelle, deserves to die a thousand times.
But it's different with you.
The contents of your safe are probably only part of your wealth, right?
Your bar is the best in Harbor Springs, attracting people from nearby counties. Its reputation is unmatched.
But have you thought about how much of your wealth Victoria earned for you?
How much did she contribute to your bar's fame?
Her blood and sweat have been squeezed out by you, and now you want to kick her out to marry someone else? Do you have any conscience or moral baseline?"
Victoria was stunned, staring at Henry with mixed emotions.
Erick was even more embarrassed, unable to speak.
"Also," Henry continued, "she's about to get married but still hangs out with you. If not threatened by you, she must be deceived by your false affection.
You pretend to respect, care for, and love her, but deep down, you think she's worthless.
You enjoy playing with her, giving her husband a green hat, but never see her as a person.
Otherwise, why do you look like you're marrying a gorilla?"
Erick's face turned various shades of green and white, unable to speak.
Henry walked over, helped Erick up, patted his shoulder, and said, "Erick, you're a man of status, with a powerful backer. You indulge in all vices. It's time to accumulate some virtue for your future and descendants.
Marry Victoria, and our accounts are settled tonight.
If you don't, I'll find another way to settle the account. Even your aunt's calls won't help."
Erick remained silent. Other things were negotiable, but marrying Victoria was worse than death!
Henry continued, "You have three choices: refuse me now, agree now and then back out later.
Both will result in me finding 100 ways to make you die accidentally. Your wealth will benefit someone else.
The third choice is to agree, go with Victoria and Bryan to the Bureau of Vital Statistics tomorrow, finalize their divorce, and marry her."
Henry's tone was calm but cold, leaving no room for doubt. Erick felt unprecedented mental pressure.
He could imagine that refusal would lead to a miserable death.
He nodded reluctantly, planning to have his aunt intervene.
"Remember," Henry said, "don't tell me Victoria disagrees. Whether she agrees or not is irrelevant to me.
If she disagrees or disappears, I'll still settle our accounts.
As for last night's account, I'll deal with it later!"
Damn, he blocked all my escape routes.
This country bumpkin, so young, thinks so thoroughly?
If he were on the right path, he'd be a genius!
Erick feared Henry more than he hated him but couldn't help but admire him.
He finally understood why Charles was easily defeated. Neither his nor Charles's abilities matched Henry's.
Henry then turned to Emily, "Sis, I called you here to vent your anger, but for other reasons, I settled the accounts myself. Any objections?"
Emily, feeling warm, stared at Henry, "As long as you're safe, that's all that matters."
Henry nodded, put his hand on Isabelle's shoulder, and said to Emily, "Let's go."
Isabelle and Emily stepped forward simultaneously, while Andrew was completely ignored.
He was supposed to be the elder brother and respected more by Henry, but the situation made Andrew feel humiliated.
Fortunately, everyone was preoccupied with their own issues, so no one mocked or even noticed Andrew.
He left silently.
Sean asked Erick, "Erick, if there's nothing else, I'll head down?"
Erick nodded.
After Sean left, Erick stared at Victoria, unable to speak.
Victoria sat silently in the chair, head down.
After a long time, Erick remembered Henry might have taken something from the safe.
Henry had said he'd settle last night's account later and knew about the surveillance. What did he take if not money or gold bars?
Erick opened the safe and found nothing missing.
"Damn!" He panicked, realizing the external hard drives were gone. "Damn it, what does that country bumpkin want?"
Terrified and furious, Erick glanced at Victoria.
She ignored his reaction, saying blankly, "I'm leaving."
Watching her leave, Erick almost spoke but held back.
What could he say now?
He picked up his phone and called Ruby again.
