Chapter 166: Seduction
As he spoke, Henry used his foot to caress Ruby's calf. Ruby remained unperturbed, thinking: This kid dares to play games with me. Others might use their hands above the table, but he's using his feet below. What a pro!
Ruby stared into Henry's eyes, noticing he was different from other men. Generally, men become visibly lecherous when they start making moves, but Henry's eyes remained calm and clear, almost innocent. He didn't seem like a seasoned player, making Ruby wonder if he had ever been with a woman. Yet, his flirting was so bold and confident. Why?
Henry's boldness stemmed from Victoria's encouragement and his accidental leg contact with Emily at dinner, which had excited him for days. He thought subtle actions under the table could express his feelings and gauge Ruby's reaction.
"Really?" Ruby asked, expressionless. "Even if this woman is married with a four-year-old child, you wouldn't care?"
Henry smiled, "If they were a perfect match, I'd be envious. But honestly, Ryan isn't exactly... well, let's just say he wouldn't get into this tea house without his uniform."
Ruby almost laughed but held it in. Despite Ryan's family's support, she had to maintain his image in public. Yet, when she first saw Henry, she was deeply attracted to him, which softened her usual defiance. She wasn't in love at first sight but had a good impression. So, she didn't react to Henry's advances, which, in a way, encouraged him.
Ruby controlled her emotions and asked, "And then?"
Henry smiled again, "I don't know what will happen next. I just think it's a shame to see a beautiful flower stuck in the mud."
Ruby realized Henry was bold but inexperienced. He should have offered more than just flattery. She asked again, "And then?"
She picked up her teacup to drink.
Henry seriously said, "Look at me. I'm handsome and young. If we were together, we'd be a perfect match."
Ruby choked on her tea, turning her head to avoid spraying it on Henry, coughing and tearing up. Henry quickly handed her a tissue.
After cleaning up, Ruby sighed, "Henry, do you think we're dating? Talking about being a perfect match? Are you planning to discuss life and dreams next? Do you like poetry and prose? Are you planning a trip with me?"
Henry realized she was mocking him, but she had a point. For a married woman, she needed a reason to cheat, not just compliments. He said, "Not just that. I can offer you more than your husband ever could."
Ruby asked, "Like what?"
Henry said, "I can give you a sense of security. Don't think just because your husband is a cop, there are things I can do that he can't. I can also give you a sense of achievement. Through your brother, I can provide more material benefits to change your life. And, to be blunt, I can make you happy. You're beautiful, but your husband... well, let's just say people might praise you to your face but laugh behind your back. Being with me, you'd know there are men a hundred times better than your husband who admire and like you."
Ruby was stunned. This kid, fresh out of prison, who fought savagely, spoke with such sophistication. Most would boast about their wealth or gifts, making the conversation vulgar. But Henry spoke of security, achievement, and happiness.
At that moment, Ruby's phone rang. Seeing it was Ryan, she felt annoyed for the first time.
"Hello," Ruby asked, frowning, "what's up?"
