Chapter 37: Unnecessary Explanation.
There are plenty of people who are willing to risk their lives, so in society, those who are merely reckless are not valuable.
With Charles' reputation in Harbor Springs, countless individuals are willing to entrust their lives to him. However, for Brandon, Charles turns a deaf ear to such requests.
He gestured for his brothers to make way, then pointed to an empty space in front of Henry, saying to Justin and the five brothers behind him, "Come here, kneel down!"
Upon hearing this, Justin hurried over and knelt before Henry.
If the leader himself was kneeling, what more could the other five brothers say? They followed suit and knelt in a row.
Charles asked Justin, "Do you want to leave here alive?"
"Yes, yes, yes!"
"Alright, take your brothers and go beat that kid. Once I'm satisfied, you can leave."
Without a second thought, Justin got up and started kicking Henry.
"Are you crazy?" Brandon disregarded everything and used his body to shield Henry. His eyes widened in anger as he roared at Justin, "He's my brother, my sworn brother!"
Charles coldly said to Justin, "You can go now."
Justin, feeling as if he had been granted amnesty, left without even looking back at his other brothers.
Charles then turned to the five brothers still kneeling and asked, "Don't you want to leave?"
They glanced at Brandon, lowered their heads, and remained motionless.
Compared to Justin, Brandon and these five brothers were truly loyal.
They knew they couldn't win the fight, so they knelt there with a sense of grievance. But they couldn't bring themselves to harm their own brothers.
Charles then looked at Brandon and said, "You're quite loyal. Are you willing to trade your life for your brother's?"
Brandon blurted out, "I am!"
"Then fight!"
With a signal from Charles, his men understood. However, instead of attacking Brandon, they mercilessly beat Henry.
Seeing this, Brandon threw himself over Henry, using his own body to shield him from the blows, taking dozens of punches and kicks.
Finally, a mouthful of blood sprayed onto Henry's face.
The five brothers on the ground, tears welling up in their eyes, dared not move.
Wen Ruyu cried out again, "Please, stop! Tell us, what do you want in order to let us go?"
Victoria then spoke up, "If you let each of our brothers here have a turn with your companion, would you agree?"
Emily cried out in anguish, "I agree, I agree, just please stop. Sob..."
Charles gestured to Victoria and walked up to Emily, asking, "Your little nephew hit my brother. What do you think should be done about this?"
Emily cried, "Whatever you decide is fine!"
"Alright, he hit six of my brothers. Each brother is worth a hundred thousand. You give me six hundred thousand, and we'll call it even."
"Okay, okay!"
Andrew suddenly seemed to snap out of it and immediately said, "Okay? Are you out of your mind? Where are we supposed to get six hundred thousand?"
"That's none of your business." Emily turned to Charles and said, "Give me the account number, I'll transfer it to you right now!"
Upon hearing Emily's straightforward response, Victoria felt that Charles had asked for too little and immediately added, "Oh, Charles, are your brothers really worth so little?"
Charles understood what she meant but still had Henry give the account number to Emily, who promptly transferred six hundred thousand to Henry.
Seeing the money in the account, Henry nodded at Charles.
Charles glanced at Andrew, and Andrew quickly explained, "I didn't even know we had this much money. It's my wife's secret savings."
Charles sneered disdainfully, waved his hand, and his men opened the gate.
The five brothers who were kneeling on the ground quickly got up to support Brandon.
Brandon said, "Don't mind me, go help my brothers!"
Two of them continued to support Brandon, while the other three went to help Henry, who could barely stand.
One of the brothers carried Henry on his back, and the group left in a sorry state.
As they stepped out, Brandon couldn't help but burst into tears and wailed, "Brother Henry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! Sob..."
Emily, with tears in her eyes, could hardly see the path ahead.
Andrew, on the other hand, remained calm. He reached out to support Emily and asked, "Darling, should we call the police?"
Emily, who had intended to shake off Andrew's hand, paused for a moment upon hearing his question and said, "Of course!"
With that, she took out her phone.
"Henry weakly said, "Don't call the police, Sister-in-law."
"Why?" Andrew asked, puzzled.
Brandon wiped away his tears and finally understood that Emily and Andrew were Henry's sister-in-law and brother.
"Brother," Brandon said, "Henry hurt them first, and now they've hurt us. Even if we call the police, it will only be a fight. They won't be in serious trouble. If we really catch them, we might get in trouble too!"
"But they also took sixty thousand from us!"
Henry said, "Don't worry, I will pay you back."
Andrew glanced at Henry and thought, "How are you going to pay them back? I'm the one who found you the security job. By the time you have the money to repay, I'll be halfway in the grave."
At this moment, Emily said, "What's done is done. Now, Henry, you just focus on recovering from your injuries."
Andrew quickly added, "Yes, what your sister-in-law said is right. We shouldn't be talking about money among brothers. Besides, earlier, it wasn't that I didn't want to spend the money, I just felt that your sister-in-law agreed too quickly, and they might take advantage. Look, that woman even started asking for more later on."
He thought he explained himself very well, but everyone was present just now, and in that situation, Emily's reaction was the only normal one for a family member.
As for Andrew's explanation, perhaps only he himself believed it.
