Chapter 111: Targeting Avery
Jason noticed that Henry was being completely humble, almost as if he had forgotten that he was an ex-convict. Jason even started to think of Henry as just another pushover like Andrew, and he began to feel emboldened.
"Your sister-in-law is quite impressive—great at her job, good with people, and on top of that, she's beautiful," Jason said, realizing he might have said too much. He quickly added, "Of course, I'm much closer to your brother!"
Henry remained calm and said, "My brother and sister-in-law have both told me how much you've helped them over the years, Jason. I was thinking of inviting you to dinner tonight. Should we invite a few more friends to join us?"
Jason thought to himself: Does this kid even know what he's talking about? What mutual friends do we have?
But then, an image of Isabelle flashed through Jason's mind. He assumed that Andrew had convinced Henry to have Isabelle accompany them tonight.
Thinking about the voluptuous Emily and the youthful Isabelle, and the fact that they belonged to Andrew and Henry, Jason felt a thrill at the thought of cuckolding them. It was a risk-free venture that made him even more smug.
"Forget it, let's keep it small," Jason said, glancing at Henry. "Besides, we don't have any mutual friends, do we?"
Henry seriously suggested, "What about Victoria?"
Jason was taken aback.
Henry continued, "And a few other graduate students. I heard you're quite interested in them, Jason."
Jason's expression changed several times before he sternly asked, "What do you mean?"
Henry smiled, "I'm catering to your tastes, Jason! Erick told me that you not only like them but also enjoy having sex with them in private rooms. I have a table in my room; you could bring them over after dinner."
Jason shot up from his chair, furious, and shouted, "Henry, who do you think you are? Where do you think you are? If you're trying to blackmail me, you've picked the wrong person!"
He turned towards his desk, likely to grab his phone to call for security or the police.
Henry laughed, "Jason, I just got out of prison and don't want to go back. If your security or the police come, I'll spill everything."
Jason picked up his phone and sneered, "Do you think anyone will believe your nonsense?"
Henry replied, "The disciplinary committee will. If I tell them that you own ten percent of the Violet Bar, what do you think the outcome will be?"
Jason gasped. If the women were something he might have overheard, only he and Erick knew about the ten percent share.
At that moment, his phone rang. It was Erick.
"Hey, Jason, there's trouble at the bar. Henry kicked me out. Your ten percent share is..."
"I know!" Jason cut him off and hung up.
Jason was even more furious with Erick. If he had called a few minutes earlier, he wouldn't be in this awkward position.
Moreover, what did Henry do to Erick that made him spill everything about Victoria and the graduate students?
Jason sat back at his desk, trying to control his emotions. He asked calmly, "So, you took Erick's bar. Do you know who backs him?"
Henry walked over to the desk, smiling, "I don't know. But I do know that if you mess with my sister-in-law again, I'll make sure you lose your position and end up in jail."
Jason tried to remain composed, smirking disdainfully.
Henry picked up a teacup from the desk and splashed its contents, tea leaves and all, in Jason's face.
Jason couldn't hold back any longer. He wiped his face and stood up abruptly.
"Sit down!" Henry's voice was cold. "Or you'll never sit in that chair again. Not even Ruby can save you!"
"Ruby?" Jason was puzzled.
Ruby was Erick's aunt. How could Henry, given his age, refer to her as a big sister?
Moreover, if Henry knew Ruby, why would he take Erick's bar?
Henry smiled, "Stay in your place and don't drag others down with you. Remember, Henry is not Andrew. Anyone who crosses me will pay double! You tried to use my brother's promotion to harass my sister-in-law. I'll settle that score with you slowly!"
With that, Henry walked out.
Jason watched him leave, stunned. He grabbed a tissue to wipe his face and dialed Ruby's number.
Before he could speak, Ruby said, "Is this about Henry?"
Jason was shocked, "You know him?"
Ruby replied, "He has powerful backing. Neither I nor my family can afford to provoke him. So whether it's Erick or you, handle it yourselves. Don't drag me into it."
She hung up.
Jason collapsed into his chair, unable to process what had just happened. Kevin was a deputy leader in the federation, and Ruby was a deputy leader in the organization department. Who could they possibly be afraid of?
And how could Henry, just Andrew's brother, have such powerful connections?
As Henry exited, a car pulled up in front of him. To his surprise, it was Jason's wife, Avery.
"Henry," Avery rolled down the window, "Are you feeling better?"
"Big sister!" Henry smiled, "I'm almost fully recovered."
"When will you come back to work?"
"I don't have time right now; I have other matters to attend to."
Avery glanced towards the entrance and asked, "Where are your brother and sister-in-law?"
"I don't know."
"Aren't you all together? Why don't you come to my house for dinner?"
"Thanks, but I have to go to the hospital for an IV."
"Alright, we'll talk after you return to work."
"Okay."
Watching Avery drive away, Henry sighed.
To get back at Jason, he had sworn to sleep with Avery.
But seeing how kind she was to him, he suddenly felt guilty about his plan.
Unless...
He thought, if Avery knew what kind of person Jason was, maybe she would come to him willingly.
