Chapter 59: Avery's Keen Insight

Andrew explained, "She graduated from college but seems to be unemployed now."
"Oh," Jason pondered, "The school office needs a clerk. If she's willing, I can ask the office director to consider her."
"That would be great. Thank you in advance."
"No need. We're like family." Jason took a drag on his cigarette, "When I visit your house, bring her along so I can assess her."
"Sure, no problem!"
Jason knew what Andrew was most concerned about, so before Andrew could ask, he patted his shoulder and said, "Andrew, at next month's promotion meeting, I'll speak on your behalf and ensure you pass!"
Jason was confident because he had been the only one opposing Andrew's promotion in the past two assessments.
Andrew was so excited he almost knelt before Jason: "Thank you so much!"
In the hospital room, Avery clearly had something to say but was hesitant because of Isabelle's presence.
Emily noticed her unease and, not wanting to ask Isabelle to leave, linked arms with Avery and led her to the elevator.
Seeing no one around, Avery quietly warned, "You need to keep a close eye on Henry. I feel something is off about him."
"Off?" Emily looked puzzled.
Avery explained, "Don't you think his change is too drastic? If I hadn't seen you on the pedestrian street yesterday, I wouldn't believe he just got out of prison for assault."
Emily awkwardly smiled, "Isn't it normal? He was beaten badly yesterday. How could he look the same today..."
Avery shook her head, "You studied educational psychology, can't you see it? Henry has a natural fierceness, especially in his eyes. Others' gazes can pierce the heart, but his can penetrate the soul.
Look at him now. If he were scared senseless by the beating, his eyes would be full of fear, at least showing lingering fear.
But look closely, his gaze is as calm as a still sea, seemingly ordinary, even showing a sense of tolerance and grandeur.
Only someone who has made up their mind and is confident can have such a gaze in the face of an impending storm.
His gaze doesn't show retreat or compromise but hints at a more intense outburst."
Emily was stunned, recalling the money returned last night. She had seen Charles' ruthlessness.
Henry had just been hospitalized, and Emily left late, without hearing Henry mention anything. How did Charles return the money?
Could Henry have a powerful force backing him?
If it's his prison friends, that would be trouble!
Avery continued, "Young people today are fearless, especially someone like Henry who hasn't studied much and has been to prison. They're definitely reckless.
Honestly, most businesses in our city have young men for security, but none are as fierce as Henry.
Those guys rely on numbers and make a lot of noise. Henry is different.
How should I put it?
Even the killers in movies don't have the same murderous aura as Henry.
If he were scared after being beaten, his eyes would show fear, at least some lingering dread.
But look at him now, his eyes are like a calm sea, seemingly ordinary, even showing a sense of tolerance and grandeur.
Only someone who has made up their mind and is confident can have such a gaze in the face of an impending storm.
His gaze doesn't show retreat or compromise but hints at a more intense outburst."
Emily was amazed by Avery's analysis.
Although they were close friends, they usually talked about women's topics and never analyzed someone so thoroughly.
Emily thought Avery's rise to deputy director was due to Jason, but her analysis of Henry surprised Emily.
Emily asked, "If that's true, what should I do?"
Avery said, "Most who succeed in society have some backing, either money or power.
Henry is different. He only has you and Andrew in Harbor Springs, no strong backing, just desperation.
There are two outcomes: either he kills someone and has to pay with his life, or he gets killed.
Emily nodded, Avery was right!
Avery continued, "But young men like Henry have a weakness: women.
Many historical figures loved beauties over power. For young men like him, it's even more so.
He won't forget being beaten, but he can be distracted from his hatred.
Only a beautiful woman he loves can make him forget.
Only a woman he cares about can make him let go of his hatred."
Emily blushed, "Are you joking, Director?"
