Chapter 131: Can I Make a Call?

Victoria smiled slightly and asked, "Do you think I'm shameless, even brazen? You know I've had many men, and yet I'm still trying to lure you?"
Henry didn't reply, but his eyes told Victoria that she had voiced his thoughts.
So, what's your answer?
Victoria suddenly asked, "Henry, please be honest. If a beautiful neighbor, married with children, offered herself to you, would you refuse?"
Henry looked at Victoria without answering, but Avery's image flashed in his mind.
Not only would he not refuse, but he had also sworn to sleep with her to get back at Jason.
Seeing Henry's reluctance to answer, Victoria continued, "Let me ask you another question. What's the difference between a woman sleeping with one man a thousand times and a woman sleeping with a thousand men once?"
Henry raised an eyebrow but remained silent.
Victoria smiled, "A married woman with children is no different from me. Why reject me when you wouldn't reject her? You only think about my many partners but not about her being with her husband every day. If you don't plan to marry her, all women are like urinals to you. A private or public urinal—what's the difference? You're just using it once. Why care if it's been used before? Would you avoid a urinal just because others have used it?"
To Henry, Victoria's words made sense but also didn't. He wasn't in the mood to discuss life and emotions with her or argue.
Henry just smiled and turned to leave.
Victoria followed him, saying, "I don't know what brand you prefer, but I can get some for you. If you don't like using them, that's fine too."
Henry paused and asked, "What brand?"
Victoria stared at him, "Condoms. Haven't you used them?"
Henry laughed helplessly and walked out.
As they walked downstairs, Victoria noticed the gun tucked in Henry's waistband, its outline visible through his clothes as he descended.
She was about to warn him not to carry it often when she saw Matthew and Ella enter, followed by several uniformed officers.
Seeing the police in the lobby, Victoria knew they were here for Henry.
"Oops—"
Victoria pretended to trip, falling towards Henry's back.
Without turning, Henry reached back, feeling the Desert Eagle being taken from him.
He turned to see Victoria quickly hide the gun in her clipboard, which contained the employee roster for roll call.
This small detail showed Henry that Victoria was indeed helpful. She had seen too much and was quick to adapt.
As Victoria steadied herself and Henry turned to continue downstairs, Matthew approached, expressionless, and said, "Mr. Henry, we've met before."
Henry nodded, glancing at Ella, who showed no expression, then turned to Matthew, "Chief Matthew, is there a problem?"
"We received a report and need you to come to the station to assist with an investigation."
Henry was about to agree when Victoria asked, "Chief Matthew, do you have an arrest warrant?"
Ella glanced sideways at Victoria, thinking: So this is the woman Bryan insisted on marrying?
Though they had met before, Ella couldn't help but scrutinize her, admitting Victoria was both beautiful and charming.
Matthew smiled and asked, "Victoria, did I say we were arresting him? We're just asking him to assist with an investigation."
"Oh, Chief Matthew, do you think I'm still that naive girl from the village?" Victoria said. "If it's just an investigation, why bring so many people? Uniforms aside, there are four or five plainclothes officers. Is this how you invite someone for questioning?"
Henry realized the people sitting nearby were all police.
If that's the case, he shouldn't go to the station casually.
Matthew said, "How we invite someone for questioning is our business. As citizens, everyone has a duty to cooperate with the police."
Victoria said, "Henry is the owner of the Violet Bar. Such a big business isn't going anywhere, right? If it's just an investigation, you can use our private room or Henry's office. Why insist on taking him to the station? If there's an issue, fine. If not, rumors of our boss being taken to the station will ruin our business."
Henry wondered where Victoria got her confidence to stay and speak so boldly.
Not to mention her quick concealment of the Desert Eagle and her calm demeanor with the police—she was leagues ahead of Brandon, Jonathan, and Daniel.
Since Victoria had pointed it out, the police stood up.
Matthew said, "Sorry, but this is serious. We must insist Mr. Henry come to the station."
"No way!" Victoria said. "If there's an issue, use handcuffs or show an arrest warrant. If not, please leave. If you cause trouble, we'll call the police."
What?!
She threatened to call the police, not realizing they were the police?
The officers and uniformed men behind Matthew and Ella couldn't help but laugh.
But Matthew and Ella didn't laugh, realizing Victoria had given them a problem.
Henry didn't laugh either.
He understood Victoria's hint: without an arrest warrant, he didn't have to comply.
Henry glanced at Ella again, seeing no hint from her expression.
Ella had principles. Even if she confirmed Henry was her brother, she wouldn't bend the law for him.
Henry asked Matthew, "Do I have to go with you?"
Matthew nodded, "It's best if you come with us. Some things can't be discussed here."
"Can I make a phone call?"
Matthew and his colleagues exchanged glances, smirking.
Before coming, Matthew had briefed them on Henry's background: a recently released convict, formerly a farmer from Summit Ridge Village, orphaned, with a brother who was a lecturer at Harbor Springs University.
Who could he call?
Ella watched silently, thinking: You can fight, but who can you call?
Victoria also knew Henry's background and looked at him puzzled, thinking: Don't mess around; these are police officers. Who can you call?
Matthew nodded, "Go ahead."
