Chapter 89: They Seem Suspicious

Ruby was well aware that male officials often got into trouble because of women. In her eyes, much like Emily's, Jason appeared to be a man full of righteousness and integrity, especially with such an outstanding and beautiful wife. She never imagined he could hide his true nature so well.

Years ago, Jason had pursued Ruby fervently, but her goal was Kevin, who was twenty years her senior. Because of this, she always felt indebted to Jason and thus nurtured and promoted him, believing he was the most trustworthy person in her life.

After hearing Henry's account, despite her belief that Jason still had feelings for her, she realized that a man indulged in romantic escapades would inevitably succumb to the lure of money. Such a person, given the opportunity, could easily get into trouble.

Ruby suddenly realized that Jason might be a ticking time bomb in her midst.

"Henry," Ruby said, "I understand now. Go ahead with your plan, but be careful to protect yourself. Jason is different from Erick. He has always maintained a facade of propriety and holds the influential position of vice principal at Haida University, which can easily deceive people. He has some influence in Harbor Springs. I hope you can exploit his weaknesses rather than recklessly tarnishing his reputation. I believe you have the ability to do this!"

Henry nodded, "Don't worry, big sister. I won't give him the chance for a desperate retaliation, which could easily affect you. I'll make him pay for his actions without giving him a reason or opportunity to fight back."

Ruby smiled, "Henry, your thoughts and behavior are far beyond your actual age. You wouldn't have matured this much without experiencing life's hardships and society's harsh lessons. Don't worry, in the future, I will make sure you are compensated for the injustices life and society have dealt you. It's late, and I have a meeting in the Federation tomorrow. I need to sleep."

Henry nodded, "Sorry for disturbing you, big sister."

Ruby smiled sweetly, "Your call will never disturb me. Remember, you can call me anytime, for any reason."

"Thank you, big sister."

The implications of Ruby's words were significant. A mature man like Jason would easily grasp their true meaning. However, Henry didn't think that way. He simply believed Ruby was expressing her trust in him. After all, the age difference between him and Ruby was too vast, and her status was far beyond the reach of a recently released convict like him. Gaining Ruby's trust was already beyond his expectations.

After hanging up, Henry immediately fell into a deep sleep, knowing that tomorrow would be another busy day.

In the early morning, Andrew woke up needing to use the bathroom. When he got up, he found Emily sleeping beside him again. It seemed the saying was true: there is no overnight feud between a husband and wife.

Returning from the bathroom, Andrew gently faced Emily and pulled her into his arms. Emily, already asleep, nestled quietly in his embrace. Andrew smiled contentedly, unaware that Emily subconsciously mistook him for Henry.

Morning came. Emily opened her eyes and found herself in Andrew's arms, feeling instantly nauseated. She got up immediately, washed up, and quietly opened the door to the guest room. She stood there for a moment, watching Henry sleep, then went out as usual to buy breakfast and some groceries.

Andrew, already washed up, saw Emily returning with a lot of groceries and was very pleased, thinking she was preparing for Jason's visit, unaware that Henry had returned. He thought that as long as Emily cooked this meal, his promotion would be secured. Seeing Emily had bought three breakfasts puzzled him, and he was about to ask when he heard a phone alarm ringing in the guest room.

He thought it was Emily's phone left in the guest room, but Emily didn't react. Before he could say anything, the guest room door opened, and Henry came out, heading straight to the bathroom.

Andrew was shocked, staring at Emily, who kept her head down, eating breakfast without acknowledging him.

A normal person would think that Emily slept in the guest room last night, and when Henry returned unexpectedly, she had to go back to her own room. But Andrew thought Henry and Emily had arranged for Henry to sleep there, explaining Emily's unusual behavior last night. He assumed that after being satisfied by Henry in the guest room, Emily returned to the master bedroom to avoid suspicion, snuggling up to him.

Most people would have an affair outside the home, but he had invited the wolf into the house!

Andrew's face grew darker as he ate his breakfast, occasionally glancing at Emily, thinking: I was hesitant before, but now you can't blame me. If you can be with Henry, why not Jason?

After Henry came out of the bathroom, Andrew's expression softened. "Henry, Jason has agreed to let you work at the school. Shouldn't you come with us today?"

Henry replied expressionlessly, "I'm still not discharged from the hospital."

Andrew thought: If you're not discharged, why are you back here to sleep? If you're going to cheat, why not have Emily come to the hospital? Don't you have a private room?

Emily asked, "Are you getting an IV today?"

"In the afternoon."

"Then come back for lunch and bring Isabelle. I bought groceries."

Andrew smirked inwardly: Do you think I'm stupid? You slept together last night, and now you're using Isabelle as an excuse?

Henry said, "We'll see. I have to accompany Isabelle to see Bryan today."

Andrew, seizing the opportunity, said, "I've always said Isabelle is nice. If she breaks up with Bryan, I think you two are a good match."

Emily snapped, "Match? She's from the countryside and has dated a rich guy like Bryan. Do you think she'd look at any other man?"

Andrew remained silent, thinking: Can't keep up the act, huh? Weren't you just inviting Isabelle for lunch? Now you're jealous?

Emily's words unintentionally hurt Henry's pride. He glanced at her, speechless. Emily quickly realized her mistake and explained, "I didn't mean you're not good enough or that she's bad. It's just that she's seen the luxury of a rich family. How can she settle for an ordinary family like ours? Henry, listen to me. Isabelle is straightforward and can be a good friend, but for marriage, you two aren't suitable."
