Chapter 48 My Principles

After returning from the bar, Charles went straight home. He had a project in the county, which he was doing in partnership with some locals. He hadn't been home much lately, as he was busy with the project and also because he had someone on the side there.

His wife, Natalie, worked as a nurse in the liver and gallbladder surgery department of a hospital. Today happened to be her day off, so she had brought their daughter, Evelyn, back home upon hearing that Charles would be returning in the evening.

Although Charles had his affairs outside, he knew how to please his wife. As soon as he arrived and saw their daughter asleep, he immediately embraced Natalie and they became intimate.

Natalie had sensed that Charles was not the same as before. She suspected he had another woman, but without concrete evidence, she didn't confront him.

Fortunately, Charles still took care of his family. Over the years, he had brought home a good amount of money, and he had bought this house. Every time he came back, he would handle things with Natalie. She felt there was no need to be suspicious or demand more.

After they finished, the two of them held their daughter, who had just fallen into a deep sleep. That's when Charles' phone rang.

Seeing that it was an unknown number, Natalie assumed it was either a spam call or a scam. Since it was late, she didn't wake Charles up, but the phone kept ringing.

Natalie prepared to answer the call, but then she thought, to show her trust in Charles, she had never answered his calls or looked at his phone. There was no need to pick up this call today.

She nudged Charles and said, "Phone."

Charles, still half-asleep, opened his eyes and looked at Natalie.

"Your phone," Natalie repeated.

Charles picked up the phone and saw that it was from an unknown person. Just as Natalie had thought, it was either a spam call or a scam. He had intended to turn it off.

But for some reason, he suddenly felt a bit irritated and decided to answer. "Who the hell is this? I'm not buying a house, I don't have a credit card with high expenses, and I don't need a loan. If you dare to call me again, I'll..."

Before he could finish, Henry calmly asked, "Your wife's name is Natalie, and your daughter's name is Evelyn, right?"

Charles was taken aback. A call like this in the middle of the night clearly meant that someone was trying to threaten him with his wife and daughter.

He sat up abruptly and sternly asked, "Who are you, and what do you want?"

Natalie, who had turned away, immediately perked up her ears upon hearing Charles' tone.

Henry replied with another question, "What do you think?"

Charles angrily said, "I don't care who you are or what you want. Since you can find my family, you should also know who I am.

There's no need to say it, someone must have paid you, right? You'd better not take that money. I'm worried that you'll earn it with your life and spend it without a life.

Furthermore, if you dare to threaten my family knowing who I am, it proves that you're also someone from the streets.

There's a code even among thieves.

Whatever the matter is, let's settle it face to face. There's no need to involve our families.

No matter what you want to do, pick a time and place, and I guarantee I'll go alone to meet you!

Remember, there will be consequences for your actions sooner or later.

If you know you can't handle me but still go after my family, do you know how miserable your death will be?"

Henry calmly replied, "It seems like you understand the principles. There will be consequences for your actions, and it's best to settle things face to face without involving families.

So, when you held my brother and sister-in-law hostage at the bar last night... no, it should be yesterday night now, how come you didn't think about these principles?"

"Damn, it's you?" Charles exclaimed angrily. "Do you know that you're seeking death?"

"Perhaps!" Henry said calmly. "The real question is, before I meet my end, do you have any idea what your beautiful wife will go through? I don't need to go into detail, right?

And what about your daughter, who is still in kindergarten?

Even if I were scum, I wouldn't have targeted them, but you taught me how I should act!"

Charles's blood boiled, his veins bulged, and he immediately got up from the bed and headed towards the bedroom door.

Before he could say anything, Henry seemed to sense how angry he had become and said, "Stay calm, Charles. Any harsh words you say now will be paid for by either your wife or your daughter.

Of course, your parents are included as well.

Your family lives in Rosewood Estates, your wife works in the liver and gallbladder surgery department of a hospital, your daughter goes to Little Sunshine Kindergarten, and your parents live in the South Mountain New Village in the county, right?

I have a temper; I always demand double from those who owe me!"

Charles, who wanted nothing more than to tear Henry to pieces, suddenly calmed down.

Henry wasn't afraid of any of his threats when he made this call. If he pushed Henry too far and Henry decided to come to his parents in the county, what would he do?

What surprised Charles even more was how Henry had managed to gather such detailed information about his family in such a short time.

"Alright, tell me," Charles said as he entered the living room, suppressing his anger. "What do you want?"

"It's simple: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. You held my brother and sister-in-law hostage and extorted 600,000 from them. When my sister-in-law transferred the money to you, it didn't take more than 5 minutes.

If there isn't 600,000 in my sister-in-law's account within the next 5 minutes, be prepared to see one of your family members die for each missing penny!

You can have your brothers guard your family, but can they really protect them?

You can report to the police, but what will they do before I take action?

Once I make my move, it will be too late.

As for the matter of paying with lives, I'm prepared for it when I made this call. The final decision on who will pay with their lives depends on you."

Henry's voice was not loud, and his speech was not fast, but every word made Charles's heart race.

"It's just about money, isn't it?" Charles gritted his teeth. "Fine, I'll transfer 800,000 to your sister-in-law, with 200,000 as interest. Just make sure you think it through. Can you afford the cost of this interest?"

Henry replied, "You're overthinking it. This call today is to teach you a lesson.

You extorted 600,000 from my brother and sister-in-law, so I'm extorting 600,000 from your family, not a penny more.

As for me injuring your brother and your brother injuring me, we'll settle that separately."

Charles laughed in anger, "You've got guts, kid. I'll transfer the money to you right now."

Henry calmly said, "You better do it quickly. You have 4 minutes left!"
