Chapter 58: The Hypocritical Jason
Erick's aunt Ruby was Jason's college classmate and later married a deputy leader in the federation. She herself now holds an important position.
Thanks to her help, Jason was promoted to vice principal at a young age, and Avery could become the deputy director of the office in the development zone, thanks to a call from Ruby.
Ruby specifically instructed them to take good care of her only nephew in Harbor Springs, Erick.
Erick's bar licenses were all obtained through Jason's connections.
Whenever they had the chance, Jason and Avery would introduce friends to consume at Erick's bar.
Because of this, Erick often said that without Jason, he wouldn't be where he is today.
According to seniority, he should call Jason "uncle."
But that would make Jason seem old.
Moreover, every time Jason went to the bar, he would find a few pretty girls to accompany him, so Erick always called him "brother" and Avery "sister."
Erick was very tactful in this regard.
Calling Avery "sister-in-law" would seem distant, as if there was a barrier between them.
Calling her "sister" made it seem closer and also hinted that Ruby had not only helped Jason but also Avery.
This way, he could express his gratitude to both Jason and Avery.
Therefore, he always gave separate gifts.
What was given to Jason, Avery wouldn't know.
What was given to Avery, Jason wouldn't know.
Both Jason and Avery were very satisfied with this.
So when Avery heard it happened at Erick's bar, she didn't insist on calling the police but instead said, "Erick is really too much. How could he let someone get hurt like this?"
Jason explained, "You know what kind of person he is. It wasn't him who did it, but his friends from the social circle."
Avery then asked Henry, "Was it those guys you beat up on the pedestrian street?"
Henry shook his head.
Avery turned to Jason, "Since it has nothing to do with Erick, why can't we call the police?"
Jason glanced at Avery, "It happened at his bar, and the ones who did it were his friends!"
Avery thought about it. If what Andrew said was true and those people had guns, it would be a big deal. Erick's bar might be shut down for rectification or even closed permanently, and Erick might be arrested and sentenced.
Andrew smiled and said, "No need to call the police. It was a misunderstanding and a small matter. Later, Jason found them and got our money back!"
Jason glanced at Emily with a smile and then said to Andrew and Emily, "Henry suffered a bit, but you can rest assured that Erick and his friends won't trouble you or Henry again.
Once Henry recovers, let him go to work at the school. Just don't mention what happened last night. If people know he was fighting in a bar, it would be hard to explain to the school's security office."
Henry remained silent, but inwardly he cursed: Shameless and brainless! The money wasn't recovered by you, it will come to light eventually. Aren't you afraid of being exposed?
Moreover, it was 600,000, not 600 or 6,000. Didn't you think of calling Erick to verify?
Maybe he didn't know Charles extorted so much money last night?
Andrew quickly agreed, "Yes, yes, Jason is right. My brother just got out of prison. If people know about last night, regardless of the reason, they'll gossip."
Avery looked at Henry, who smiled, "Thank you for your concern. It's indeed not suitable to call the police. Given my record, if I'm caught again, it will be seen as fighting.
As for what they had, we can't prove it.
They might not let us go.
Jason nodded, "Very good. Henry, I thought you, just out of prison, would only think about fighting. Your thoughts have surprised me and shown your maturity.
Work well in the school's security team. When there's a better position, I'll think of you."
He glanced at Emily and then at Isabelle.
"Thank you."
Henry smiled, but inwardly he vowed to eventually expose Jason's hypocrisy!
Jason's gaze made Avery notice Isabelle.
"Is this your girlfriend?" Avery asked Henry.
Henry didn't know how to answer. Emily was about to explain, but Andrew nodded, "Yes, they just started dating."
He noticed Jason liked Isabelle, and Avery didn't seem to dislike her.
Admitting Isabelle as Henry's girlfriend, he thought, would give Jason more opportunities.
Isabelle showed no reaction.
Jason took out a cigarette, saying he wanted to smoke outside. Andrew immediately followed, wanting to talk to Jason alone.
"Andrew," at the end of the corridor, Jason said while smoking, "if it weren't for the pressure on Erick, his social friends said they would come after your brother again."
"I know, I know. The principal really helped a lot this time! I already told Emily to make some of her best dishes and invite you over."
Jason nodded, initially worried about Henry. Seeing Henry wasn't as ruthless as he imagined, he felt relieved.
More importantly, he noticed Henry feared Charles and his group, making him feel more confident.
"By the way, where does your brother's girlfriend work?"
