Chapter 61: Who Is Your Husband?

Although Avery knew Jason wasn't entirely lying—people at school were even more scheming than those at her development office—she was fully aware of the true nature hidden beneath her husband's polished exterior.

She even suspected that Jason might have an affair with Erick's aunt, Ruby. However, since she herself had benefited from it, she kept silent about the matter.

Avery said, "I just found out that Erick's friend fired a gun last night. I advise you to stay away from him and avoid bars, or your vice-principal position might be at risk!"

Jason replied, "If it weren't for Ruby, I wouldn't bother with Erick at all. To me, he's nothing. Don't worry; I'll be careful from now on."

Their car drove through the school gates, and Avery paid special attention to the security guard standing at the entrance.

"What's wrong?" Jason asked, puzzled.

"Nothing," Avery replied.

In her mind, she pictured Henry in a security guard uniform and remembered Emily saying that Henry would be working as a security guard at the gate. Avery smiled knowingly. Thinking of Henry's burly physique and inherent fierceness, she felt an inexplicable excitement.

On the way home, Andrew told Emily about Jason's suggestion to introduce Isabelle to the school.

Emily remained silent.

After they got home and Emily had finished cooking, Andrew wanted to discuss inviting Jason for dinner. However, as soon as he sat down at the dining table, he saw Emily walking out with a large bag of food.

"Hey, you..." He stopped mid-sentence, realizing she was clearly taking the food to the hospital.

Andrew went to the kitchen and found that the pressure cooker contained only enough rice for one person. In one dish, a few different items were combined to make a mixed platter. He looked around but couldn't find the pressure cooker with the chicken soup.

Not even a drop of soup for me?

Andrew knew Emily would definitely take food to the hospital at noon. He had assumed she would eat at home first, but it turned out she went to the hospital to eat, leaving him alone at home.

Andrew shook his head, feeling that Emily had changed, devoting all her attention to Henry. He muttered darkly, "Do you even know who your husband is?"

When Isabelle saw Emily carrying two large plastic bags, she was astonished. Could Henry really eat that much?

Knowing that Emily didn't like her, Isabelle glanced at her and then turned to leave.

Emily placed the lunch on the bedside table, unpacking the plastic bags while calling out, "Isabelle, come help me."

Is she calling me?

Isabelle looked around curiously; there was no one else in the room. Henry was also surprised.

"Come on, Isabelle. I've been stewing this old hen all morning. Help Henry drink some chicken soup," Emily said without turning around, continuing to take out disposable plastic meal boxes from the bags.

Isabelle looked at Henry in confusion. Henry made a face, indicating he had no idea why Emily's attitude towards Isabelle had suddenly changed. Emily called Isabelle twice, in a friendly tone, as if she were a younger sister.

Isabelle, who had planned to go out for lunch, hesitated for a moment before walking over to Emily, picking up the bowl of chicken soup, glancing at Emily, and then sitting on the chair on the other side of the bed to feed Henry.

After she finished feeding him, Emily had already set up the food. There wasn't actually much food; the small bedside table made it look especially abundant, with the disposable meal boxes stacked together.

"Here, Isabelle, this is for you," Emily said, handing a bowl with a chicken leg to Isabelle. Embarrassed, Isabelle took it and said, "Thank you."

Emily then asked Isabelle to help take care of Henry for a while, explaining that she and Andrew were too busy to take time off.

What? Didn't she dislike me and not want me to be with Henry? Did she go home and reconsider, deciding to use me to save on hiring a caregiver?

Isabelle slightly smiled but said nothing.

Emily continued talking about how Henry should rest well and return to work after being discharged, without mentioning anything about Isabelle and Henry, leaving both Henry and Isabelle unsure of her intentions.

After lunch, Emily asked Isabelle to help clean up the dishes and take out the trash. Henry and Isabelle both understood that Emily wanted to talk to Isabelle alone. But neither could guess what she wanted to say.

Henry thought he had already told her that Isabelle was dating Cole's son from Harbor Springs. Surely, she wouldn't help him steal someone else's girlfriend?

Isabelle thought Emily had called her a "rebel girl" that morning, saying she wasn't suitable for Henry. Was she trying to drive her away, or...

After throwing the trash into the large bins by the elevator, Emily immediately spoke.

"Isabelle, we had some misunderstandings in the past, which were really just small matters, but it resulted in Henry getting into a fight. I'm really sorry."

Isabelle smiled awkwardly. "It's all in the past. Mainly, he saved me last night. I'm just here to repay that favor, nothing more."

Emily nodded. "I know. Henry told me you have a boyfriend, the son of The Davis Family Group's chairman. Because of that, Henry's brother and I are especially grateful to you."

Isabelle smiled slightly. "It's nothing."

"Also, I have a favor to ask."

"It's fine. You just want me to stay here for a few days, right? I'm not working right now, so I have plenty of free time."

Emily shook her head. "I just said that casually. Even if you're not working, you still need time to date your boyfriend, right? Whether you're here or not doesn't matter. If Henry's brother and I don't have time, we can always hire a caregiver. But there's something very important, even related to Henry's life, that I want to ask for your help with."

Isabelle was taken aback, thinking: Is she asking me to find someone to help Henry fight?
